I see comments from people bitching about over priced machines. The machine being built is a Soba Rusto, and one of my personal faves in my collection.Remember folks, you get what you pay for.If you're happy using your chinese machines then by all means be happy, but when you're ready to step up your game and take your art to the next level, provided you have the talent to do so,invest in some real equipment.Your machines are an investment in your future,so invest wisely!

I just purchased the Pilot Liner and Pilot shader and they kick ass!Good basic solid machines that are reliable and live up to their name!People who I work with who have been tattooing 10 plus years said that these machines are great and they sure were right!

love my workhorses...they are exactly what the name implys, everday drivers or WORKHORSES...so many builders try to get over technical and argue over the dumbest things but cant even get geometry right. My coils are still going strong and i use the hell outa my machines for hours and hours EVERYDAY...my mickey sharpz rock too...alot of machine building and custom one-off stuff is all hype so find something you like and stick with it

@mjphx Yes I noticed that too. They are probably quite strong and sealed so are quite water tight but you do get accidents. There are some nice polycarbonate tubes which will last forever. Then again Soba is a world class machine builder.

I'm a tattoo artist and a builder myself and it was mind blowing to see expert precision in the build and personal care taken to tune each machine, I prefer your machines over any of the other brands simply because your builders relate to REAL tattoo artists, you were in the tattoo game and learned to build because it USED to be a necessity for being a tattoo artist. Keep the old ways alive!

I really like how these machines are made. I have a few questions. Its a steel frame correct?i like steel and brass myself. I like that it is machined. What size are the coils and how many ufs is the capacitor. They look solid!I even like the tube vice. I can't tell you how many times I have bought a good machine and was pissed because of a poorly made tube vise.

@mjphx the cardboard is covered with the coil wire and shrink wrap though. Its not like you are going to soak the machine in madacide.

A workhorse iron or iron workhorse from I.T.S. ? My i.t.s came good for a long stroke, to much tension but i still re-tuned it to how I tattoo and how I like them to run. Put a 18 back and a short 16 front to get a perfect flat hit on the tip of the front spring ,rolled front not bent and the o-ring puts most of the role in the spring so it works well. 90cps 50-51 % for the shortest stroke (shading) and 45% at a short/medium stroke for solid/whatever. Might switch bar to raise speed.

@mjphx Fall apart? Interesting...for the sake of arguement, lets just say that moisture did manage to find its way to the cardboard...it's wrapped by layers of wire and the shrink wrapped, nothing is just going to fall apart! If you don't have a clue what you are talking about, why talk? (just my opinion)

@MrPinstruck no problems here...there are alot of monday morning quarterbacks that have to nitpick to sound smart or gotta bitch about something because they cant tattoo and fall short on machine building too.machinebuilding is alot like tattooing these days...too many people think its for them and dont have a clue. This is not rocket science and shouldnt be treated as such...ppl have been making tattoo machines for a long time that run awesome and they are good simple designs

It's amazing that these so-called "tattooers" on here can't tell the difference in Workhorse Irons and Iron Workhorse. Iron Workhorse machines are Chinese knock-offs of classic designs typically, with poor hardware, cheap coils, and low quality cast iron frames with improper geometry. I've bought some of the ones from ITS, and of the 4 that I bought, only one of them has made a decently running machine, AFTER I changed all the parts. They are not the same by any means.

Cardboard makes a great insulator. I've seen old vintage coil cores that were wrapped in news print. A good insulator is a good insulator. My preference is kapton tape, but to each their own...

@alc84" it makes perfect since. they do that so u can have to later buy new coils when those are no good anymore. just like building cars they design parts to wear out so you have to replace them. Its called making money :) lol" this was your quote...it's VERY clear that you were talking about Soba's tattoo machine coils being made to wear out, LIKE vehicles...or were you just talking about cars for no fucking reason at all? At least TRY to make sense!

@kowtpr187 Oh, cool !! Well I dont "hate" on workhorse irons at all. Would rather just buy a solid iron workhorse machine $55 or any solid iron frame and tune it myself and save allot of wasted money. Instead of spending $400 on a machine because of the name. A iron machine is a iron machine. Names dont impress me much. I would only get FK Iron's because his shit is amazing out the box, i tried my boys out A+. Your duty was low 30's right ? I dont like that.

@calavera69 Poorly wrapped? Bar none Soba makes some of the best coils out there, period! It's funny how all a number of people are jumping on what they "think" is a problem. I'd like to hear from just ONE person who can honestly say this has casued anykind of prpblem with their coil(s)..it doesn't and won't. Again, before some of you open your mouths, you might want to get close to having a clue what you are talking about.

Nothing like over priced production machines. I've owned a few in all honesty. But this is getting ridiculous. Mass cast frames milled by a company and the only thing they do is roll their coils.. Well some of them. Seth buys his from a guy in Oregon and gets $500 per machine from rubes. Buy a real handmade machine instead.
