Developer efficiency sounds like a really fun area to work. I’m amazed how well ai has become my primary source for documentation and refactoring. My day to day has elevated to focusing much more on architecture, performance, and refinement. While ai does much of my typing and generation of doc comments for apis.

Yea it's really bad. Especially in London where outside of working in finance, Meta is basically one of the only players in town where you can get a high tech salary so you are even more paranoid for your job. In the US, you could easily hop to another FAANG company and get the same or higher TC

Started in ‘21 and huge shift even from then. No longer based in Mpk but seems like there’s two camps at odds with bringing back employee sentiment and maintaining cost reduction

with regards to "rehiring" people so the stock grants are higher -- don't kid yourself, if an institutional investor wants something they will get it. Those people up there are ruthless and they don't care about you a single bit.

A bit of an unrelated question, but do you ever conduct interviews? If so, have you ever had someone from an interview recognize you from your youtube channel? Regardless, great video as someone currently in middle of the Meta hiring process!
@crackfaang
@crackfaang 2 ай бұрын
I do conduct interviews and yes it's a bit of an anxiety of mine that someone might recognize me. Though I have tweaked some settings on my microphone to modify how my voice comes out on video and I speak much differently than I do in real life. With the stress of the interview day as well, I hope that candidates are less focused on the interviewer and more on passing the questions that they don't notice :)

Are you still working out of the London offices? I'm curious if the more negative points you touched upon regarding worse work life balance is more towards a specific location or Meta in general! Just wrapped up my final loop with Meta London.

Hey I'm joining meta as a new grad new year! I wanted to know how common transferring between locations is for e3/e4 engineers. I got assigned to MPK, but I'm potentially interested in transferring to NYC after a year.
@crackfaang
@crackfaang 2 ай бұрын
You can transfer if a few conditions are met. Namely you need to have been with your current team for 1 year. After that it depends on headcount availability and business need. I think at the lower levels it's a little bit harder but not impossible. If you find a team that's willing to take you then the possibility is definitely there for you. You'll just have to deal with the HR process of getting the move approved and sorted out logistically

Hey quico question you mentioned that theres a 15% quota is that just for MM rating? Does MM guarantee you a pip process? You said that rquates to around 1 to 2 people per team so are team sizes usually around 8 to 10? Are different orgs affected to different degree? Like surely they woukd pio as many from the money making side of adss right?

15th January 2025: Meta just announced that they are going to cull some poorly performing dead wood and fire around 5% of their staff - that's around 3,600 people. They will be re-hiring later in the year.
