Rainman14, Look up videos of that truck. With good sized tires and a snorkel (raised air intake), they can literally plow through flood waters! Better yet, get a 5 ton and you'll be able to do almost anything. XD

Brandon Dierolf That makes sense! 😃
@Rainman147 жыл бұрын
+Brandon Dierolf ah I see, I was wondering because the engine was longer so I would have thought you would have an easier time turning, but I’ll make sure to find s parking spot completely out of the way if there is a next time. When I parked I thought all the trucks would have been coming from the next block down so I thought I was out of the way.

There's a reason you don't see deuces used as fire vehicles much, they suck at it. Poor brakes, NO rollover protection, and A3's with CTIS have lots of problems with air leaks. Not to mention they're quite slow.

I had to laugh when I saw that ladder truck responding to this call. but if it works for manpower, then who cares. As for the sauce and a half, you can find a lot of those trucks in the state of Wyoming, because they will go anywhere you are willing to try and take them. And for us, that helps a lot.

@Rainman147 жыл бұрын
For a the size of the fire on the mountain and being a big city they have the resources they have the resources to send so many
@dmhpokey6 жыл бұрын
That is a dangerous urban interface. All hands on deck to get it under control quickly before loss of life or property.
@scottdd25 жыл бұрын
Hi Luke, normally I'd agree with the over allocation of appliances in the US however a bush fire (scrub/brush fire) in the US and Australia are very different to ones in the UK.Temperatures over 35 degrees, dry hilly terrain, and as dmhpokey noted, urban interface, a large response is required.In Australia a large fire will have crews from all over the state come in on task forces and even interstate or international, as has been done for the US as well. These fires can burn for days and weeks and cover 1000s of hectares. Tankers also responded for water cartage.What I don't agree with is the use of open cab jeeps and kids sitting on the running plate of the pumper.Good video Rainman14

How would a tiller help with a brush fire?
@CH-bo5jw4 жыл бұрын
Keaton0801 Extra manpower and extra equipment. Ladder trucks are more than just a ladder. They are also the main tactical / rescue truck for most departments so it’s got way more equipment than most trucks.

Ladder to a brush fire??
@CH-bo5jw4 жыл бұрын
Tim Attridge Ladder truck has more than a ladder lol. Extra Manpower and extra equipment. In my department (and most departments today) the ladder truck is also the main rescue truck. So it’s got tactical and rescue equipment. We send the ladder as the first response apparatus to car accidents also because of that. More info than you asked but I hear questions about “Why is a Ladder responding to this or that...” all the time.

I live in the state of California (used to live in PA actually) and I'm pretty sure I've heard that our ambulances are required to have two sirens. At any rate, they all seem to, plus the requisite electronic horn. It's annoying, but it's amazing how many folks get in the way.
