LOOKS LIKE A GOOD STOP. 2 lines in service pretty quickly. I just don't know why you'd park on the lawn. I understand all the comments, however once water starts flowing around the truck you risk the chance of sinking your truck. They appeared to be saving room for the ladder to use the driveway, however the other pumper took that spot. But in the end it was a great job saving the house.

I agree about parking on the lawn. That's simply not thinking clearly or lack of training/common sense. There's no need to save room for the truck company. There is no need for an ariel operation as ground ladders will suffice.

Like with most KZbin fire videos, this fire should have been out before this video even started. Two firefighters and one engine with onboard water could have completely stopped 80% of this fire within the first minute of arrival. 0:02 Park on the street, activate the pump, pull a 1-3/4" line or point the Deck Gun and hit all that Visible Burning Material starting at the breezeway and heading into the garage. Once the breezeway end is soaked, around 5 seconds worth, the main threat is over. They, didn't do any of that. This was a one, maybe two-line fire. Look how many were pulled and how long it took to turn off the flames.

Engine should have been in the driveway. If the grass was soft it would sink up to the frame. that's alot of weight.

Let me guess? An electric vehicle charging in the garage? If you live out in the country without adequate water supply close by (fire hydrant, large pool, pond or lake). You need to have as a homeowner the means to suppress a fire? I guess I’ve been lucky? We have had only one oven fire. I had it out before my wife could call 911. We have several 1 pound,5 pound & a one 10 pound fire extinguisher scattered around at my house. (I fight oil fires at work on Occassion) I know how to use them. We live in a city with a paid fire service & a fire hydrant within 500 feet of my house. Waiting for the fire service to show up with tankers tells me one thing? You better have replacement value on everything you own. There is a finite number of tankers & to call for additional resources from further away delays a quick knock down.

My house will be burnt down to the foundation before the first volunteer rig shows up and the fire house is 5-6 houses down and I have a small pond across the street from the house. But that’s composite build modulars for yeah. I also have 3-5 fire extinguishers throughout the house. Fire safe boxes for important documents and a big home owners insurance coverage lol.

Fastest and safest way to extinguish an oven fire is to add a handful of salt the instant the oven door is opened makes the food salty but the oven will be usable right after no messy discharge from dry chemical extinguisher. Simply fill hand open door and fling it into the oven. Fire is instantly extinguished.

The editor of this video needs a new profession. One frame the fire is out, the next frame the fire is on again and so on and so forth. As far as the firefighting, the area in the garage that is exposed to the attic of the breezeway is the most important area and it received the least amount of water, thus allowing the fire to spread into it. He hits it for a second and then sits down to focus on the least important area while it rekindles. Then the whole garage is up in flames again. The focus of the first unit with onboard water should have been on the house end of the garage and nothing else. No, not the heroic and idiotic tactic of going inside to drive the fire back into the garage. One, it takes way to long. Two, you have no access to the fire from the inside. Three, if you do open a door to access the garage from inside, you invite the fire inside.

Not a bad job considering the resources available initially……..no immediate water supply until tanker arrived…..apparently most of the units had to travel a ways to get there………initial knockdown with first outside line and second line into house were decent decisions

Many Volunteer departments do not have ladder trucks. From this video it appears that no ladder was dispatched. In this video the FFs were using an 1.75 hand line for interior attack and a 2.5 handline with a combo nozzle to work the exterior attack on the seat of the fire. Early on arrival shots also shows smoke coming from the attic next to the garage so extension into the living part of the structure is indicated. over all I rate this at a B+ would have been an "A" but for parking the truck at the Alpha Delta corner and not going by and getting a view of the Bravo side from the engine. that means that the IC would have to get eyes on Both the Bravo and Charlie sides in the initial 360 before deciding on a plan of attack.Medical problems may become apparent and not visible to fires due company without doing this. Fire Stress Heart I don't know for sure is 360 was done or not so I won't comment on that.

At the end of the video you see the ladder arrive on scene. By that time the garage had already deteriorated on the one side and the bulk of the fire was knocked down. Also if this was all volunteer, I imagine command arrived before the first engine and likely wanted a line in place to knock down the extension. Either way it's a short video starting after the arrival so who knows what was done prior.

Ladders are the most useless piece of equipment at a residential fire. "A"s, "B+"s or even "C"s are nonexistent in the USA unless you have really low standards. To generate a "Plan" for this fire, all you have to do is possess the ability to See that the garage is on fire and is threatening the breezeway. Then you apply tank water to the garage starting at the breezeway and working back to the garage. K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid! Firefighting is not that complicated if you just eliminate the threat.

@@JB91710 they may not be useful at 1 story sfd fires, but when you have 2 story homes its a different story. Even just using the ladder crew for ventilation can be done. If they arrive and the garage is pretty engulfed extending into the house further, it would make sense for the first due crew to hit it with tank water to halt the spread until a second crew goes through the front door with a line. All that assuming its not in the attic space.
@JB91710

@@NPhillips856 Vertical Ventilation is the single most ridiculous tactic ever devised in the USA. You vent the fire room windows to release the pressure and then soak the burning material. This is not rocket science.

@@JB91710 its not rocket science youre right but vertical ventilation works and plenty of departments have used it well. Stockton California shows that in their videos.

How did that work for them? They had No Clue how to apply the water effectively. Getting it done eventually is not what firefighting is all about.

So the question is, what would you do based on one's first in? We can pick apart what was done in the video or we can look at what we would do based on experience and first in assignments. I'd rather look at from my perspective without being a d*%k so I can make a good decision based on what my expectations are.
