this video is really long, so if you have stagehand and have to fill out this google form like i do, i've done all the work for you. question one: what does beowulf think of scenery design as? a transformation of _____ over _____. * answer: space over time (4:25) question two: what is the first thing mimi thinks about when given a space with flexible seating? * answer: what the relationship is between the audience and the play. (5:17) question three: according to mimi, why do choreographers and architects get along? * answer: they think about space in a sculptural way. (19:49) question four: what made beowulf's design for act one at lincoln center more eco-friendly? * answer: the props were either reused from old sets or borrowed from other productions. (24:50) ✰ make sure to change up the wording a bit! hopefully this helps at least one person.

I’m a freshman in high school and started an internship in set building/technical theater. It’s amazing to see where the drawings me make come to life come from, and how much effort goes into it. Sets seem to a lot of people to be a given part of a show, with the assumption that it was easy to create. This definitely proved that wrong

What I loved was how the set designers would know when to use simply a set piece like a desk or bed, or when the feel of the play was more right to have the entire house shown with different rooms and whatnot.

Sruthi Nambiar it's so efficient, too! I designed the set for my senior musical of "Annie" and one side was the orphanage and it was a trifold that could separate and rotate into the mansion. (2 techs would also bring out columns to add to the feel) With such a small stage and even smaller budget it was perfect and one of my proudest moments.

Couldn't sets be auctioned off? I'm sure there'd be some wealthy patrons of the arts who have the money and space to store them. And that would bring money back to the theatre, as well, so it'd be a beautiful, full-circle situation.

It’s much more complicated than this. Many a times the set is made to last through a production and not meant to be relocated or reused in other spaces for obvious safety concerns. The issue is often there’s no good reason to save a set as a while but there’s often pieces that get kept such as usable pieces of wood like example 2x4’s over 2’ long are reusable, plywood over 2’ square is too. It’s the materials that get kept and the rest that’s often pitched. Unless you’re rich and can afford to scratch build everything

What sorts of Materials do you use when you're making your smaller figures like Chairs, beds, etc. Any furniture really. I am having trouble finding what I need exactly. I am in a production class and we have to design a set, and i chose "A Streetcar Named Desire" which is proving a bit more challenging than I had originally though. My biggest struggle though is keeping things in the right Scale, as well as creating the figures by hands, and what materials I need to create them.

Hi, I am in high school still, but I am extremely interested in theatre technical production. I was just wondering what are all the positions in technical production. Thank you!
@bennett89216 жыл бұрын
I'm also in high school, so this is by no means a professional answer, and this is just how my school divides the work, but in Stagecraft, there are usually 5 groups that make up the Set Crew. -Builders, who actually build the set with drills and screws and all that -Painters, who paint the set after it is built along with any backgrounds -Propmasters(sort of an unofficial group, usually people who move between the first two groups end up here), who make props, a bit self-explanatory -Techies, who work with lighting and curtains/flies (I admittedly know nothing about this)(EDIT: Oh shit, and sound. Techies also do sound) -Costumes, who design, sew and fit the costumes for each actor Once most of the stuff is built, the people who have put in the most effort, shown up the most, etc. are chosen for Stage Crew, which moves things during the show. I work mostly in the first three crews, though I have worked on costumes before. I know nothing about what Techies do.

Offer your services to small theater companies where you live, like community theatres and schools. Learn how to design on a shoestring budget. Do as many different types of theater as you can: plays, musicals, opera, ballet, etc. to broaden your horizons and your portfolio. And read, read, read. Good luck.
