Working on Approach Bridge | Gordie Howe International Bridge Significant Progress 2024

The Gordie Howe International Bridge project is a planned bridge connecting Detroit, Michigan, in the United States, with Windsor, Ontario, in Canada, across the Detroit River. Following the bridge deck connection via floor beams and girders, 12 concrete precast panels have been installed to complete the mid-spn closure procedure. Subsequently, a global survey will again be performed on the entire structure, re-stress stay cables as
needed, and stitch concrete precast panels. Followed by Removing the remainder of the temporary bracing (transverse cranks) and deck cranes.
While the bridge deck is connected, it does not mean the bridge is ready for use. A substantial amount of work is still needed, including the re-stressing of stay cables, post-tensioning of the deck and the installation of electrical, fire suppression, drainage systems, barriers, signage, lighting, deck paving, and pavement markings, and completing the multi-use path. www.gordiehowe... Is there any information on why the stay-cable anchors on the bridge deck are encased in concrete? It seems that if the plan is to use salt to de-ice the deck in winter, that is a prime spot for corrosion between the concrete encasement and the steel shrouds on the bridge deck anchors.

It’s so if a car crashed into it, no structural damage would occur to the cable stayed anchor.
