I wish that I had access to the machines that you have. I'm jealous, I'll admit it. I enjoy watching you work.

Wife enters shop: Are you almost ready? Steve - Let me space this off real quick and then we can go eat, Steve - Goes ahead and makes part 😆😆😆 Hilarious man, Seriously though thanks for making these videos. As fellow chucker (Bob) owner I would have really benefitted from watching you. Even though I'm very comfortable running it now, I still pick up little tricks from you that I haven't thought of.

Great to see you back in the shop, Steve. Also glad you're feeling better. Would it have been easier to put the "slug" into the tool holder, chuck the drill/reamer in the 3-jaw, and bore the bushing in situ? Sorta backwards, I suppose, but it would've saved you the trouble of aligning the smaller reamer holder. Plenty of ways to skin a cat, I suppose. Regardless, awesome work. Can't wait to see the finished tool in action!

Still needed to face off the slug... This was easy as all the tools were preset in the carousel and all you have to do is pull the handle for a tool change...

@@10swatkins Fair enough! I'm not super familiar with turret lathes. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!

I use bushings like that on my cnc lathes and they have holes drilled so that the locking screws contact the tool directly and not just the side of the bushing. When I made a bushing like yours I found out why the holes are there. First is that most lathe tools like your reamer have a flat (very easy to grind) for the screws that help keep the tool from spinning and the second reason is that any mark or burr from the set screws will make them almost impossible to remove from the holder. With the holes they will slide right apart with the screws out - without it is like trying to pull Excalibur from the stone.

Yes I was going to put a hole through it but was in a hurry... You need to put the holes in first on such a thin wall part or the drill can make a mess of the wall... Next time :)

Steve, I live very close to you in Magnolia TX. Wondering where you buy your tooling from, if not on line. I’m a hobby machinist expanding my workshop and thoroughly enjoy your videos. Thx

Bass Tool in Houston.. Carbide Tool and Industrial Supply in Waller.. Bass has more inventory on hand but CTIS is only 20 minutes away and have most of what I need or can get it fast...
