@nothingssmore5 ай бұрын

This is a great craft. However, by using glue, I think it no longer has the same properties as paper. It's more like plastic than paper.
@nothingssmore5 ай бұрын
yep, and exactly because of this the model is running only several minutes - mainspring is also made of several strips of paper glued with cyanacrilate, and it became more like a plastic than a paper, so it tends to fracture when bended too much (
@themarblers43995 ай бұрын
Very impressive work! I would really like to accomplish something like this. Could you give us the methods of calculating the gear ratios?
@nothingssmore5 ай бұрын
Thanks. As for the gear ratios - it depends on different factors like balance oscillation period, mainspring power(how many "effective" revolutions it can make), ultimate gears producing accuracy, does second hand needed etc For this model, as a result of trials and fails, I ended up with following parameters: balance - period 0.46(6) escapement wheel - period 4.6(6)s; pinion 10 teeth ratio 3.6 third wheel - period 16.8s; gear 36 teeth / pinion 10 teeth ratio 3.6 second wheel - period 60.48s ~60s; gear 36 teeth / pinion 10 teeth ratio 4 first wheel - period 241.92s ~240s; gear 40 teeth / pinion 10 teeth ratio 5 barrel - period 1209.6s ~1200s; gear 50 teeth

The fact that you can build a darn watch out of paper, gives boley with their U.T.S 700 series no rights to be this finnicky and unreliable, especially at this price of 25€ per movement. It's especially embarassing to remember that the clock movement I mentioned is a German radio controlled clock movement. It costs 25€ and it's so incredibly unreliable and finnicky to work with. These clock movements only last about two years until it fails. boley really needs to improve here. The only benefit about boley's U.T.S 700 is that it's very accurate at showing the time. The clock is expensive, the hands are getting harder to find and it requires constant replacing. At this point you could just get a cheap chinese radio controlled clock that does the same thing for far cheaper. It's sad what happened to Junghans. They're no longer making their own movements anymore but instead rely on boley's crap and edge their logo on boley's unreliable products... (The Germans are known for their well built clocks, just like the Switzers clocks and watches...)
