Working with Git and GameMaker Studio 2

Sorry I saw this then forgot :\ What you should do is create a new folder and then just copy / paste everything into that folder and commit into git. That is really the easiest, then just remove the old stuff and work out of the new folder that is maintained by git

quick question: this shows how to incorporate a new project, but what about an existing project? can I just change the directory by project > save as > and save it in this new git directory or will that corrupt files / the project?

The best thing to do would be to make a new repository on github (or bitbucket, etc) and then clone that empty project into a new folder. Then just move all your files into that folder and commit and push.
