Awesome. Basically as applications move from on-premises to the cloud many app teams suddenly find themselves responsible for the OS if they go IaaS which they were not before so created this for them (and others) :-)

@@NTFAQGuy yeah, I am infrastructure and we support OS for most teams. I appreciate the advice and cant wait to see more linux content. Btw I find the way you do your video's easier to learn from, instead of just a screen record and a voice, we get Whiteboard session which helps me at least a lot. Thanks again!

John exellent video as always. Very clear, you explain every step in detail without beeing redundent. I recommend to everyone that is starting to use Linux file systems - I myself learned some new commands. Cheers!

Another informative video, John, thank you. One thing I will note is that the use of "setgid" (or "sticky bit" for the old timers) is a source of frustration for security auditors - normally it is better to have the user/svc account in the right group for the directory ;-) Keep up the good work.

Thanks John, appreciate that. I’m a windows server administrator, recently moved to a Linux project. I had faced lot of issues while connecting the File storage and blobs to Linux machine. I had to write multiple scripts to keep them connected when a reboot. I appreciate if you can make a class on connecting File Storage and blobs to Linux machines. Thanks so much, happy new year 🤘cheers!!!

Thanks John! Although, the commands and portal when zoomed were a little blurry in this video, nonetheless it was still understandable. Very good quality content as always!

Great video!! Would love to see a follow up on the steps for an "upgrade/recover by replacement" senerio, unmount from current vm, build new vm, attach to previous disk set of steps.
@NTFAQGuy

Do you mean the data disks of a VM? Thx
@jonnykopp
@jonnykopp 3 жыл бұрын
@@NTFAQGuy I do, redeploy the machine and attach the new vm to the persistent data disk. Or if that's incorrect, the method that makes sense in Azure. I'm under the impression that to make upgrades/migrations/restores as painless and quick as possible, they should sort of be built from that same automation components.
@NTFAQGuy
@NTFAQGuy 3 жыл бұрын
yep you can just attach an existing data disk to a VM, mount the partition and will be good to go.

John thanks for your amazing content. I have a quick question can increase OS Disk size while the VM is running or do we need to de-allocate?

merci John. If you mount a FS on a non-empty directory, the files are just hidden during the mount, after umount you recover your original files.

How does one of this VMs (with a Temp drive on the host) live migrates to another host if that part of the "data" although temporary is not on shared storage?
@NTFAQGuy
@NTFAQGuy 3 жыл бұрын
live migration is not common between hosts unless in certain failure prediction scenarios but if it does happen hyper-v live migration (which is what Azure runs on) also has storage migration so it can move storage between nodes if it needs to. In Azure during normal maintenance the VMs are paused (VM PHU). I cover this is my resiliency master class on the channel.

@@NTFAQGuy So Azure runs on Hyper-V but uses nothing of failover cluster?
@NTFAQGuy
@NTFAQGuy 3 жыл бұрын
@@maxsnts correct at the scale of azure it uses the hyper visor but not features like clustering. Again it does do live migration in some circumstances and can storage motion as well but it’s not typical operation.
