Very informative. Remember, when it come to stuck bolts or studs heat is your friend.

Thanks for the input. I agree, and heat did help at times like with the thermostat housing nuts. There were times when I wanted to torch the entire project!

Great video! I am starting a similar journey myself in a few days. I am removing my engine and plan on taking it to my shop. This was very helpful in seeing what I am up against. I look forward to your progress!

Hi do you know about the filter oil ?
@SailingLimaCharlie Жыл бұрын
I don't think the A4 comes standard with an oil filter set up. I do know there is a kit to where you could add one, available from Moyer. What I am doing is changing the oil every 18 operating hours and checking that used oil for any concerning sedement that settles at the bottom. So far that way of managing the oil has worked well. I had a similar situation with a VW bug engine that had been converted for use in an aircraft. I used the same method of managing the oil coz there was no oil filter set up there as well.

Why replace the water pump?
@SailingLimaCharlie Жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin. I replaced the water pump because the one that was on the engine was a very old model that had a grease cap that constantly had to be refilled and I had to turn it to inject grease before engine use. Pain in the butt. The new one from Moyer is totally enclosed and self lubricating. No more parts from Columbus times!

@@SailingLimaCharlie oh, I see. Thanks for explaining. I'm working on my A4 today. Don Moyer's Carburetor video says an A4 should rev up 'explosively' when someone quickly opens the excellerator Was trying to find a video of someone doing that to see how my engine compares.. .

@jageryager Yea I think I remember hearing that. Not sure how to describe that fast reving up, but mine sure does. I've accidently bumped the throttle while moving around in the cockpit and it's scary how fast you can over rev that motor
