I have a couple observations. The last bite was talking in her space again. Also I think there might be something in her person's energy that is hyping Fable (not just that she has practiced being heightened around her) because when she picked up Bondi, Bondi rocked out. And obliviously she was getting more heightened when working with her person despite being the same thing being asked by Jamie. Also in a similar vein I wonder if there is something about the unknown expectation that is causing the issue (not just the oblivious frustration and confusion) which would be supported by the play calming her. It was like the play cued to her that there were no expectations for specific behavior and thus she could relax. Horses and cats are more sensitive than dogs to the change when you are expecting something of them and I am betting that is something that Cockatoos are more sensitive to which might be part of why they are less predictable. Being unaware of how expectation changes their "energy" this is something I have noticed with people who are not nondivergent or don't interact with people who are nondivergent. Trying to teach people to train horses I have run into this same kind of feed back problem where they are exuding "I WANT SOMETHING FROM YOU," and so the horse is giving them options of things they might want but not getting a release from that energy or a reward for good behavior so they become more sensitive to that person releasing that pressure causing them to come up with random behaviors to "appease" the person who does not know that they are cueing. This leads to naughty/scary behavior because they scare the person into not expecting/asking for things. (I am not explaining well I hope this makes sense to someone who could benefit from knowing it is a thing)

Really interesting observations and I totally got a visual with the horse example when you were explaining so it definitely made sense to me. Thanks for sharing!

Seeing this comment months later but in case you’re still wondering - if you’re in like 3 feet of your birds space they think everything you’re doing is training so the bird views all hand gestures as a cue which could be very frustrating if you’re just talking and moving your hand around. You have to get out of their training space unless you’re training them 😇

This was a great 2 part series because it was working on the relationship between the owner & bird. But also on the owner accidentally causing frustration & anxiety in her bird. I think we all have accidentally confused our birds while training. This was a great video on shaping the bird’s behavior & the owner learning how to cue specific behavior. I do think Kelsie needs to be more patient with Fable & pay more attention to Fable’s body language during the training sessions.
@Laura-ny2un2 жыл бұрын
I learned that you have to be clear about your intentions. Training helps us to communicate. If we have unclear body language it is because in our head there is no clear idea of what(and how) we want to communicate. My caique did the same thing because she felt that I didn't even know what to ask then I started planning the training sessions, being clear about the start and end of the session and never forgot to use clicker. The behavior went away. Thank you

I know that there might be a language barrier, but have you guys ever considered doing work in Latin America? A lot of the birds in the pet trade come from there and as a result birds are a very common pet. What’s sad is that these birds more often than not are abused-I think introducing BirdTricks to people in Latin America would make a huge difference!

My green cheek conure sometimes starts angry training too. He gets heightened and then starts manic training, when he'll do what I ask, but aggressively. He takes treats aggressively, targets aggressively, etc. Sometimes if his energy builds without me noticing he'll even go into uncontrolled flights around the very small room we train in. And this isn't even working on new things necessarily. I think with him, part of it is his impatience that I don't do things at his preferred speed lol.

After seeing Jamie execute the behavior from Fable relatively easily, I'm thinking half of the issue was also just that the owner kept pulling her hand back into herself as she tipped Fable off of it without noticing. I'm unsure of if you guys did off camera, but maybe just practicing without a bird on what the hand motion should look like would help. She seemed generally a bit absent minded of what she was doing physically with her body, which might have also contributed to the arousal from Fable. Hope this doesn't come off as judgment however, she seems very intune with her birds emotions, but less in tune with her own energy. Its interesting to see. She was very self aware of her birds issues, but not how she was causing them. This seems common in the bird owners you guys visit with. I wonder why!

I have a female indian ringneck,she came to me in my Nan's backyard and I could never find her owners, I've had her for 3 years now, her name is Gandhi and she used to be the bitiest bird ever, would attack you just for being near her cage, I watched many Bird tricks videos and she now steps up onto m hand and she does a little spin she is my best friend. I suggest watching older Bird tricks videos, they have some on an Indian ringneck. Lots of patience and treats and talking is what worked for me. She is a nightmare for chewing things she shouldn't so I give her lots of bark and sticks to chew on. The way I got her used to my hand was using a 40cm long Branch and I would give her treats for stepping onto it. And use the stick to carry her around the house and to put her back in her cage. She now sits on my shoulder in the shower, she loves baths, I first used the stick to get her used to showers, she would still try to bite me and I found distracting her with calm words and whistling helped stop the biting, slowly over time I got a shorter stick and she doesnt ever try to bite me anymore. Indian ringnecks are so beautiful. I wish you the best of luck with your boy :)
