Today we’re going to attempt to tackle another big topic and some very personal work with Dark Mother/Dark Goddess energy. I’ll be sharing with you some of the decks I use to connect with this energy and the books I’ve found helpful.

Book for the Black Madonna: Longing for Darkness by China Galland: story of her travels and experiences with dark Tara, Chestohowa's Black Madonna. Very readable, very good.

I appreciate you trying to find various ways to express this. I don't do gods or goddesses, but I guess we all have dark times and dark aspects to ourselves. (Ever use dark father energy? What would that be like?) I wonder, why would somebody even worship/create a god or goddess who is dark or vengeful?. Interesting that crone is defined as disagreeable or malicious with supernatural aspects--now that I'm an older woman I've realized I don't understand what people mean when they talk about crone energy. But I'm open to learning! Thanks for sharing your decks and thoughts.

The world depicts crone as the "wicked witch" archetype, but crone actually/originally refers to an older, wise woman. 😉

@@NYCHFAN Certainly as an archetype a wise woman but in folklore a bit more negative/hag. What I read was that it was neopaganism (so new, not original thought) that cast her as the dark goddess. But given the way women have been treated throughout history, it's hard to know what influences imbued the term over time.

I agree that Hekate has a light side to Her, but I do not see Her as a saviour. She is a torch, but a torch you have to be brave enough to find inside the woods, a torch that's ment to guide you further in when the streetlights are too far, it won't lead you back out, if you've got lost.

I've been working with The Magdalene more recently and was reading about her to a friend yesterday. I see her energy as connected directly to and expressed by the Dark Madonna, descendant from Solomon's bride in the Song of Songs in the Old Testament... "I am dark but I am lovely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem..." The Dark Goddess, to me, is a figure of LILITH, Adam's first wife who left him to marry angelic Lucifer himself...

I have never been drawn to the Mary El tarot, until just right now. Seeing it in this energy, has peaked my interest in it. Never seen the The Pythonic Tarot or the Black Mirror Oracle definitely adding to my wishlist

I think picking decks for specific reasons or purposes is very subjective indeed, but that's one of the beauties of the variety of decks and tarot itself! Thanks for sharing 💛

The Stunning tarot and Barbra Walker look to be out of print, or they are just very $$. Drat!

Stunning Tarot goes in and out of print, the creator does smaller runs I think. The Barbara Walker was still available in the tin version (which is what I have.) I think it’s the standard edition that’s been long out of print. Hope that helps! 💚

I love the Archeon…I think it’s so underrated. I have an older copy and the card stock is great, but unfortunately the newest print has terrible card stock.

@@pagan_suburbia I actually love the card stock, lol! I like thin, easy to shuffle cards as my hands don't work like they used to, and the thicker cards always catch on each other and then the edges peel. Just shows how different we all are, lol! I do love the deck. 😊✌️❤️🃏🙋‍♀️

With regard to the Black Madonna books, try "Breaking Chains: the evolution of the Black Madonna" This is leaving the European traditions behind and going deeper into where she came from and what she means for us now...🙏🏾🤎 The book goes further then Spiritual meanings and even taps into political ones, which I find very fasinating...

Have you read Clark Strands other book, the way of the rose? I’d really recommend it, and it might put waking up to the dark into more perspective too.
