Super glad to hear the leaking issue hasn't repeated itself! I used to have that issue with a Pilot MR, seemed like every time I uncapped it a vacuum would form and I'd end up with a cap-full of ink. I have really been enjoying my Majohn V60 so far! Getting to try out such an unusual pen shape without having to put the money towards an Omas 360 was a big appeal for me. Hello Doodlebud, thank you for another informative review and please keep them coming. I want to say that I too have an original Omas 360. I bought it new in Bologna in 1996 when I was a young engineer and the “casa” was still going strong then and I even joined their OMAS Society . There is none of the rattling, looseness or sealing problem in the cap that you mentioned and to this day the cap snaps on with unerring mechanical precision. Perhaps the one you bought was a bit misused (?). I also did buy an Omas Ogiva as an EDC and have enjoyed both pens to this day, into my retirement. I am a subscriber to your channel and appreciate and own many of the affordable modern pens that are being made by Chinese manufacturers at an ever increasing manufacturing quality at very affordable prices. However, while replica/homage pens can give you an idea of what an original would feel like (like you said) , they are definitely two worlds apart. Regards.

Thanks for the details. I ordered it yesterday with an EF nib I guess and am happy that it's another quality pen from the Moonman stable at a fair price. My 2 cents about copies, straight away copies, inspired by and the likes. The original is the original and the copy is not the original by any means, like the Admok J800 and J 400 vs Pelikan, The Moonman V60 vs. Omas 360 and so many other FP models. Just like I look at it.

Mark Twain was impressed with the Conklin Crescent because it was a "profanity saving" pen. With the crescent fill system, it can't roll more than about 3/4 of a turn before it hits the crescent and stops. That's the detail that caused Conklin to make Mark Twain their brand ambassador.

Since metal can make a sharp edge and eventually split when folded, as the triangular band on the barrel would, removing a bit from the fold can minimize that tendency, as well as risk of slicing open the digits of the owner. Could this, rather than snug fit, be the reason the Moonmen improved their design over the original?

I might know why you had a leak. I fully disassembled my V60 and found that the o-rings on the nib unit was dislodged and there wasn't a perfect seal (I'm referring to the o-rings that interface the threads on the screw-in nib unit). I removed the o-rings, added some silicone grease, and haven't had an issue since then. I also had no issue removing the piston mechanism. It disassembles like any other piston mechanism except you need to fiddle around with it to get the blind cap to align with the body (not difficult at all).

Opinion question: An early version of a higher-end fountain pen has a cap ring with engraving that is not quite symmetrical, especially compared to its current version. I forget when the 360 was released, perhaps around 2000. Omas spent $5,000,000 in development. The retail price when it was introduced was very high to me. I decided to opt for the ballpoint. Now, the price is even higher for the fountain pen Shortly after its release, Omas announced it was folding up. It did not recoup the cost of the 360. I am usually not a fan of triangular grip pens. What I found is the concave design of the grip. This pen's section is convex and rounded on the sides, making it more comfortable for me to use. I have the V60 in my cart. I didn't buy it as I wanted to see a review of it. I will get the fine nib as I have found them to work very well with little if any adjustment needed. I do wish MaJohn made a softer nib. I wonder if the Hong Dian soft nib will fit.

@judyjacobs5827Күн бұрын
There are roll stops that slide onto the pens. Various styles from various makers, some are adjustable. A few pen companies offer accessory roll stops and clips. A few clipless, round pens in my folders have gotten a child-size finger ring that keeps them off the floor.
@iiisaac1312Күн бұрын
@@Doodlebud You're right. The glue might degrade over time. It would break off, then your pen would roll off the desk and get damaged. It might be better to use epoxy, a plastic welder, or even a screw.

I kind of wish I had a pen like this several months ago when I was re-learning my handwriting. It would have forced me to use a "proper" grip. Not that I think it necessary for good handwriting, but the way I hold pens is pretty nonstandard and not the most comfortable for long periods of writing, but I feel like it's too late to try and learn to hold the pen differently. (When I said re-learning handwriting earlier, what I meant was that my handwriting was pretty crap, so I decided to start from scratch and learn cursive. Not that I didn't know how or forgot how to write by hand.)

Could be just luck of the draw, but 3 out of 5 duds ordered plus serious work needed on the A1's default just to get it to write properly does NOT inspire confidence.
