Well to answer what I would want. A round rod for recurve, an extra coarse, an extra fine, a 3 sided strop so I could load different compounds, and a ruby or Arkansas stone, also 800 grit diamond, 1200 and or 1000 diamond then ultra fine. If you truly want it around for years.
@TorlingJarl4 жыл бұрын
I am gonna be specific. I think it should be and extra coarse or 2. maybe an 80 grit, a 180 grit. 3 or 4 finer stones. an about 1200 grit diamond, a coarser ceramic than is already on the system, then a finer. lastly get a strop, maybe one holder with 3 strops so we can have choices and progression. I have this system and get hair whittling edges. The system for the price is INCREDIBLE. If you make more grit options I will just drop dead. It needs it and it can be even more of a no brainer for the price. You have indeed done something great and should be proud.

I’d like to see a ~1500 diamond plate and abrasive foils with 1 and 0.5 micron diamonds. It would be great to have “blank” tri-brasive assembly available so one could assemble any abrasive combinations. After getting pretty heavily into straight razors/whetstones I decided to begin collecting knives as well. With the stones I have I can get a pretty solid edge on my edc’s/kitchen knives, and a dangerous edge on my straight razors. Even with a steady hand, finding the angle of various blades by hand on a whetstone can be a real PIA, and not always super consistent even if it is a fun task in my opinion. To get to the point…after hours of different knife sharpening system videos I’ve decided I’m going to go to SMKW this evening to pick one of these up. Most of the reviews are outstanding, and with the upgrade kit that is now out it’s a no brainer for me. I know some people have complaints here and there about little things, but pretty much every system I’ve looked into has their own quirks that you have to deal with, and with the modularity, results I’ve seen, and price I’ll be happy to give this a go in my knife hobby. Cheers to this, and I’ll be happy to report back with my opinions/feedback down the road. Have a good one!

I've used multiple knives and double checked to make sure the blade edge was centered vertically in the jaw but the stone hits on one side.

I think the best start would be to mimic your "Guided Sharpening System" and make a "220 / 800 / Leather Strop" Tribrasive upgrade kit! and Pronto! maybe, to be extra fancy, have a "220 / 800 /1200" grit Diamond Tribrasive and a "3 sided Leather strop Holder" and a Diamond lapping paste kit, maybe " 4 / 1.5 / 0.5 Micron" ? Much After that some sort of Tapered diamond rod for serrations, I think serrations deserve MUCH more love! The sharpening is the main problem, we need to solve! Last i would love to see even coarser abrasives, maybe a "220 / 150 / 80" diamond, to get some serious chips out! In the far future i would of course love to see "Diamond lapping films 9 / 6 / 3 / 1 / 0.5 / 0.01 Micron" and "Japanese Water stones 400 - 10000" and "Arkansas natural Stones" but these should be the very last priority, The first

Thanks for the video! I found that on my Worksharp Field sharpener I get a MUCH better edge if I use the coarse Ceramic as well, ie. coarse diamond, 600 grit, coarse ceramic, fine ceramic and leather strop in that order. If I could make a suggestion it would be to make coarse ceramic, pre-loaded strop, and blank leather strop plates for the tri-abrasive. Also sell the tri-abrasive assembly, unloaded, seperately. This way I could set myself up with 2 tri-abrasive wheels. One with coarse diamond, fine diamond, and coarse ceramic. The other with fine ceramic, and a strop with green compound, and another strop sprayed with 1micron diamond dust. My Precision Adjust is not due here until Friday. After I use it a bit and get the hang of what it is I'll write back with any other suggestions if I have any. I love the field sharpener and really look foward to getting this system. Peace.

Love it!!! Since you asked I think most of us would want something in the 180 range Diamond if you need to remove damage or re-profile and then maybe an 800 grit Diamond then 1200 Diamond then maybe a triangle of polishing materials like a ceramic and 2 different strops. These are just suggestions the point being it would speed up the process to get to a mirror finish shaving edge.

Once you start adding more stones, I would like to be able to set up a more gradual progression. If you offer more stones, I would be interested in getting an additional tri-sided mount and having two that I could swap onto the rod as I progress without having to adjust for height. Somewhat related, an adapter or rod that would allow me to use after market, common size stones in materials that worksharp may not offer would be great. And of course, a strop. I can always take the knife out of the clamp after completing sharpening and honing with the stones and use a traditional strop, but I think many of us would love to be able to use a strop while it is clamped into the jig with the angle set. Overall it looks like a great budget friendly guided system, and seeing that worksharp plans to build on the platform makes this a likely purchase in the near future.

I've seen a few review videos suggesting that they found great results once on ceramic by changing the direction of the back & forth movement, from up & down on the cutting edge to across or with the cutting edge. they noted that even on the high grit ceramic, with build up, they noticed some striping while going up & down. but noticed the across movement did no result the same. is this something you would recommend?

A quick suggestion, if you do have extra long blades it is possible to just sharpen in stages, ie. Sharpen a 5 or 6in section then slide the blade and reclamp then sharpen the next 5 or 6in and so on so forth... with that said you could essentially sharpen ANY length of blade as long as it can be clamped...
@EionansEdge2 жыл бұрын
I know there are aftermarket stone holders available, but a new tri-abrasive holder with 1000 and two finer grits would make this about perfection for me. The only other thing I wish they would do is to have some type of upgraded base for the unit with a thumbscrew to lock the two parts together. Then there would be virtually zero play and it would be easier to take apart and store. Overall, I'm very glad I bought the elite version of this sharpener.

I love this sharpening system. I don't own one yet cause they are sold out everywhere but plan on picking one up asap. One "improvement" I think could be added, that little chingus that holds the stones, has that sort of plastic fin on the top you pinch with your fingers to hold. Ive seen some people using this actually grab the sides of the stones to use it which puts their fingers mighty close to scraping the blade. Im assuming that fin thing is weird to hold if using for a while so why not add a 'knob' or ball thing on top of that fin to help with the grip and just make it a little more comfortable to use.

I’d want a 1200 diamond and a 3000 diamond stone. Something to get to true mirror finishes. I’m not sure what you would rate the ceramic at. I understand there’s nothing functional there, but you have put yourself in position to be a legit alternative to a KME system at less than a quarter the price. Give us some add on stones that really allow it to get nearly flawless polished bevels and you’ll convince a lot of people. I am already convinced, I pre ordered. But you can chalk me up to 100 percent likelihood to buy additional finer diamonds. Coarser too. I suppose adding a series of conical diamond files and ceramics for serrated edges or recurves/gut hooks would be useful, and again I would buy. But the polishing diamond stones would be the priority to me. Cant wait for mine. I’ve been a freehander which is great on longer blades but on folders I make too many mistakes. You’ve made the decision easy to add a guided system for short blades.
@jamalama55484 жыл бұрын
I love the system but I cannot get the 600 scratches out of the edge with the fine ceramic stone. So additional grits between the 600 and the fine ceramic is what I would like to see. I have never seen any info on the grit of the fine ceramic so I can’t offer any numbers for intermediate grits.

For the abrasives, at least give us a similar expansion kit to the one for the Guided Sharpening System with one more coarse and one more fine than what comes with the sharpener. Additional 1000, 1500 and 2000 offerings would be great as well as a strop as others have mentioned. Even offering single stones of varying grits and a blank tri-brasive holder so we can piece together our own set of abrasives right from the website would be super cool (for example - I could set up my own shaping tri-brasive set of 120, 240 and 320, then a sharpening set of 400, 600 and 800 then a refining set of 1000, 1500 and 2000)

I bought a small, cheap clamp from harbor freight for it for like $1.99. That way if I have a heavier knife I can clamp it down to my kitchen table, countertop or whatever.
