The University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art recently facilitated a traditional hide pouch painting workshop at Meskwaki High School as part of its related programming for the Native American ledger drawing exhibition, "Drawn Over: Reclaiming Our Histories."

The goal of the workshop was to cultivate a relationship between the Stanley Museum of Art and the nearby Meskwaki Settlement and to increase community engagement through creative programming.
Guest curator Dr Jacki Rand facilitated the workshop with the aid of the Stanley Museum of Art and Curator of Special Projects at the museum, Derek (DK) Nnuro. Historic Site Manager and Curator Michael Galban lead the workshop and instructed participants on the techniques of traditional hide painting, an early 18th century form of Indigenous art, in an effort to revitalize the practice amongst the community.
