Just to let know that in American Region Canada too have an ODI status and PNG no longer has the ODI status because of their position was last in World Cup Qualifier Playoff so they lost it and Canada regained theirs

For example: Europe - England, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, and 1 team from qualification would compete in a league format. Cricketers in other countries shouldn't play Cricket with a dream of only playing in IPL someday, representing their country should be a priority too which can only happen if the game grows globally with more countries playing it. 8:44 No point in a Europe Cup if non European countries play in it, similarly no point in a Pacific Cup if non Pacific countries play in it. 9:54 Asia Cup should try to bring more Asian countries in it instead of non Asian countries. It's not that Regional Cups are "not possible" coz some already exist like South American Cricket Championship (since 1995) & the sub-regional East Asia Cup (since 2015). Most regions having only 1 or 2 Test nations make it impossible to convince them to participate in such a novel tournament which will take their time away which could be spent on some bilateral series which would make good money for them. ODI status isn't necessary since all ICC members have T20I status. So, I think these regions should organise their Regional T20I Cups without the big teams (like Africa is doing right now hosting in South Africa but without SA as a participant), if the tournament grows then these big teams will eventually want to participate.

Sorry but I completely disagree with you on popularity of Cricket based on region. And i'm an Indian in Canada and have analyzed USA-Canada Sporting Culture. So will make following points 1. Cricket is well played by Carrebian, Ocieana (Aus and NZ), British/Irish and Southern African people beside our subcontinent. And even my White Friends here get some intrust in sport after watching us desis follow. Infact Australians love it as much as us and British being a bit behind. 2. If no. of teams is criterion then toh American Football, Canadian Football and Australian Football stand no where. Plus if you remove small countries like Cuba & DR then Baseball is played only in USA, Japan and South Korea (TBH I don't think Canadians take baseball that seriously as compared to Ice Hockey). And Ice Hockey is only in Scandinavia, Russia, CR, Slovakia and Canada (USA too but seeing male American Players in NHL and IIHF WC, I really doubt) 3. Just for sake of info, search World Championships of Ice Hockey, Basketball, Baseball (It would be World Baseball Classic) and Rugby. You'll see not many teams play those tournaments seriously with only handfull of competitive teams. Plus American Professionall Tournaments have affected the sport to grow and you can see quality of performances in WCs. 4. Beside LeBron and Jordan, I challenge any regular guy (who isn't Basketball enthusiast) outside of USA/Canada to name even 1 Basketball player. American Football, Baseball and Rugby toh rehne hi do 5. This is just my love for Cricket. I like Baseball too (due to it's Simmilarities with Cricket) but tbh our Cricketting culture is 1000 times better. We have more sportsmenship, our players are forced to respect umpire's decisions, they can't get physical with others and if I analyze personal quality of performance of players, Cricketers on average perform better than Baseball Players despite MLB being USA's 2nd biggest league. I think we Indians should take deep pride in Cricket as Sunil Chetri said and improve performance in other sports too. Also we also should promote Cricket more (which we are doing and it's true that it has become 2nd most popular sport).

You guys worry a lot....... Cricket will not grow automatically in next 5-10 years. It will take 50 years but eventually it will become a truly global sport as India becomes an economic giant. With Indian diaspora migrating to every single nation and other south asian diaspora also to a lesser extent, it will automatically have a million people to grow, support and follow the game in atleast the bigger countries such as Germany, Canada, France etc. The way mexicans, and other south americans popularized football in US, Indians will do the same and it will create a ripple effect. And now with cricket getting into olympics, it has created all sorts of possibilities because a lot of European nations truly care about olympic sports. Nations such as Germany, Netherlands, Belgium never cared about hockey but slowly it became popular due to exposure in olympics. Also, sports such as Hockey and Rugby have their limitations such as Hockey players are paid pennies as compared to even Cricket and with Rugby even though it is popular but is not even the no .1 sport in any influential country barring Newzealand so it will always be the number 2 or 3 or 4th popular sport in every country. Cricket on the other hand has already shown that it can become the no. 1 sport if the team starts performing at a higher level. Afghanistan was never a cricket nation and was football crazy but in the last decade, it has truly become the no.1 sport in the country. Same goes for Nepal, it was football earlier but cricket has taken over. Cricket is popular in some of the most powerful countries such as UK and Australia who have huge soft power and the reason why ICC is putting all their eggs in one basket by promoting the game in US. The biggest USP of the game is that it is very skill based and it is literally a game of chess with nerves and tension rising in between the overs whereas sports such as football, hockey and rugby are constant and there is hardly any time to think.
