Luis E. Batres The angle is important for following the game properly. In the age of technology it is not really demanding if we chess players ask for such a thing, is it?

6:45 - I always wonder what Carlsen is thinking when he does that look away from the board: 1) Oh he's lost now, what's the best way to capitalize? 2) Downloading a Million rook/pawn endgames from his memory? Not sure why he took so long. I think he truly thought he had a winning endgame at this point.

It was a dead draw but then Guseinov tried to go for a win, I think at 8:53 instead of Rc4 simply transfer rook to the h-file then create the philidor position (correct me if i'm wrong please)

Not really. Carlsen wins in this position.
@johnrainmcmanus631910 жыл бұрын
"Book draw," as we say. Doesn't mean you can't lose it otb ("over the board"). Btw, exactly what position are you referring to when you say "this"?
@davidbandel920310 жыл бұрын
John Rain McManus how does black draw this position? looks like an easily executed win for white. nothing can stop d8=Q. black can't even give up a rook to stop it
@johnrainmcmanus631910 жыл бұрын
David Bandel Yes, of course it is a won game at the end, or Guseinov would not have resigned. But the position at, say, 7:42 is almost certainly going to result in a draw in a game played at standard time controls (i.e., not in "blitz" chess). Most, though not all, rook and pawn endgames played with even material result in draws at the GM and "Super GM" levels. In fact, if the player with the advantage does not have better rook and/or king position, these games usually result in a draw even when one player is up a pawn. (I could stick this position - the one at 7:42 - into an "engine" on my computer, and it almost certainly would play the position out to a draw... but I'm lazy. Do it yourself.)
@johnrainmcmanus631910 жыл бұрын
David Bandel "Irrelevant" to what, troll? My comment was that it must have been frustrating for Guseinov to lose that position.

rever4217 But the game wasn't finished.
@rever42179 жыл бұрын
So? The game doesn't have to be played till the end in order for one side to forfeit. Guseinov just thought he had no chance of winning at that point as he was down in terms of both position and time. High level chess players resign quite often and it's very rare actually to see them play until checkmate. They know when they're beat and think it's not worth staying until the checkmate.

After Carlsen put his king on d6 ,the only move was Kf7!= . Rc4-d4 was a mistake. Tricky rook endgame
@bobbylight11110 жыл бұрын
Carlsen seems to win a lot of games like this, even in slower time controls, where the endgame is optically simple but actually very tricky, and he just handles those positions better than anyone right now. Very hard to stay in a complicated middlegame with Carlsen because he's just so happy to simplify, and why not.
@bobbylight11110 жыл бұрын
firendable Yeah, this isn't the best example. I still wouldn't envy the task of playing a theoretically 'drawn' ending against Carlsen though.
