1D chess: Ding and Rapport got careless and all their prep is publicly available now 2D chess: Ding and Rapport did this on purpose, knowing it’d be discovered, so team Nepo would prepare for the wrong things 3D chess: Team Nepo figured this out days ago and is more upset that it became public because now team Ding is aware, causing Nepo to tilt… just as team Ding planned 4D chess: these were friendly games between Nepo and Ding themselves as a good will “mutual prep” session 5D chess: The actual Pentagon released this to cause chaos as Russia and China are US adversaries 6D chess: Hans Niemann is the redditor who discovered and leaked this because he just wants to watch the world burn 7D chess: These were two actual 1500 players playing for fun and randomly trying out openings, still blissfully unaware of the worldwide furor their games have caused 8D Chess: some time travelers went back in the timeline after a match they found particularly interesting and decided to cause mayhem for no reason 9D Chess:666D Chess: That is not a Chess game, but a complex ritual to summon Azathoth from the Deep space. Alien, Who only knows the universal lenguage of maths, communicate with Chess moves and the avatar of Nyarlatothep (Hans Niemann) started the ritual. The online matches where not games, but the instructions for starting the ritual. Chtulhu Fhtagn 10D Chess: This is a copied comment

Wouldn‘t be my choice as well if I wanted a high level analysis. But for my 1000 elo brain, I don‘t really get what Grandmasters discuss in those positions, and Levy‘s commentary and low level inputs on why certain moves matter (eg Ra2 able to defend the second rank as well as join the attack) enables me to appreciate chess on the highest level possible for me. No commentary, no idea. Too much analysis, also no idea. Levy hits the sweet spot on the curve.

Anish explained Ding's oppening so nicely in the broadcast, pointing out his queen side pawn structure (doubled pawns on c file) and that he hasn't even castled and his king was safe for entire game. Truly a d4 oppening masterclass from Ding. Also a big storyline in this game was Ding playing 40th move with 4 seconds left despite having more than 5 minutes after 39th. Goes to show you how deep these GMs calculate every line.

8:55 it's worth noting that Nepo was still playing so quickly and confidently up until this point that Anish Giri suspected he might still be in prep even though it's such an obscure line. "and now some of the openings that one player will play are - out there" I'd say that with Rapport by his side, all of Ding's openings are a bit out there. Love every moment of it dgmw.

I think the rule that the defending champ keeps his title with a draw held the WC back and just made it a draw fest. This is easily the most exciting WCC I've ever seen now that it's not just Magnus playing for a draw every game Edit: My bad I could've sworn that was the rule. Either way Magnus was still playing for draws he's more than happy to go to rapids against anybody
@Armoliver

@mjtpli
@mjtpli Жыл бұрын
That wasn’t the rule. Magnus won in ‘18 in tiebreakers. Someone pointed out that the big reason for all the draws in Magnus’s matches was because he’s so damn good no one can take big risks against him, and he neutralizes all your innovations. These players are more evenly matched as mere humans, so you get more drama.

Previous WCs were drawish because the level of play was very high. Play level is lower this WC, and Ding and Ian are both very up and down in terms of their mental stamina, which is why there are more decisive games this WC.
@SnipeyGaming

@@s98715the skill level is absolutely not lower. Don't get me wrong both of them aren't magnus but don't forget Nepo was the guy who played Magnus in the WC last time! These guys are #2 and #3 the skill level is incredibly high

That's a very old rule (before the 2000s I think). All recent championships have had rapid and blitz tie breaks in case of drawn Classical games.

In the world of chess, there's a title so vague "It's over", it says, like an unspoken plague It's a phrase that makes us all wonder and fear What could it mean, what is the end near? Gotham Chess, the mastermind behind This title, has left us all in a bind With no context, no hint or clue We're left to wonder, what is true? Is it the end of a tournament, or a match? Or the end of a chapter, a difficult patch? Is it the end of a journey, or a dream? Or the end of an era, or so it seems? The truth is, we may never know The meaning behind this vague echo But perhaps, that's the beauty of it all The mystery, the wonder, that makes us fall In love with chess, and its enigmatic ways That leave us in awe, with every play For even when it's over, the game goes on And we continue to play, until the dawn
