The TADs are the best speakers I have heard, period. When you visit audio shows as I have over the years, there are certain components that stand out while all the other gear just dissipates into the ether. You won’t forget the TADs anytime soon. I found myself repeatedly going back to the room where the TADs were, hooked up to Krell FPB-300s. Heaven

I bought a pair of Pioneer RM-05 active monitors on a whim. These are coaxial monitors designed by TAD with a Pioneer logo on them. They sound absolutely incredible. It sounds as if the audio is coming from the center of my listening space without there being an actual speaker there. They're also heavy at nearly 10kg each, built out of diecast aluminium. I was at a clearout sale and these were floor models that had been used for some years, but the first thing I did with all the speakers they had was knock on the cabinet to see how "solid" they are and these hurt my knuckles and hardly made a sound. Hardly anyone bought these Pioneer models when they got released and it's a real shame since they're so good. Also, apparently the guy at TAD worked at KEF where he invented those type of drivers.

According to Stereophile's 2018 review of these, this was the first new TAD speaker that wasn't designed by Andrew, as it was developed after he left to work for Elac, although they say it retains some of his influence. Their chief engineer is Toru Nagatani, who is based at their Japanese headquarters

Although I haven't heard this particular TAD, I have no doubt everything you said is true. TAD may not have the physical bling like a Wilson or Magico but believe me when I say they are in another sonic league all together. I have never heard a TAD sound anything other than world class. The ET703 horn tweeter they have now sadly discontinued is simply the most amazing tweeter I have ever heard. As they did start as a pro driver company they have offered high end home gear for many years now Jay.

I have a pair of Magico A1’s driven by a Krell K300i. Stream via nucleus with chord mscaler and TT2. Separation is outstanding, the speakers disappear. 3d like depth. Bass is outstanding. No port allows me to place them very close to the back wall. Listening space is 12’ wide x 20’ depth.

I ditched the conventional stands and purchased some cool table top stands that are a bit lower to the floor and perfect. Also I am rounding it out with a pair of REL T7s. I agree with you in this category these speakers are a serious competitor with some name brand high end floorstanders. Doesn't hurt to use some decent amplification as well.....the Hegel H590 rules. 3:46 What does that mean? It means the vowels and consonants are coming from the same point instead of over 6" apart. What does that mean? It means that the stereo image is stronger and it tends to stay with you as you walk around the room, much like a rainbow in a sprinkler shower in the sunlight. You get more engagement and more 3D effect.

If these come with the stands, shouldn't the stands be prewired on the inside so you don't have to have speaker wire trailing down the support pole? Do these need a subwoofer also and does TAD offer one that pairs with these? According to a Stereophile review and testing, these drop off significantly below 60 Hz.

@Jayiyagi2 жыл бұрын
good question. Tune Tots are very dynamic speakers and also made for practical placements (and not necessarily limited for only treated rooms). I'd say they are fairly close and comes down to application. TAD I'd put in a more medium to large rooms but the Wilson, maybe in a smaller or desktop environment. The TADs are more refined, balanced, image and does bass more effortlessly + a more full sized 3 way speaker while the tune tots are a 2 way and relatively much smaller

Very good video Jay with detailed explanation about sound, technical perspective and amplifier combinations. I have never heard these speakers but they should be amazing. The review of TheAlphaAudio (Dutch channel/website) about the TAD Evolution 2 floorstanding loudspeakers also noticed the quality of TAD speakers as their new reference. I am not sure if these will fit into your space (maybe too big?) but over here they cost a 1000 euro more then these ME1's so maybe it's something to look into as a review. But as you mentioned earlier, it's all about personal taste, making compromises, and finding out what works best for you. I am big fan of Dynaudio speakers (you should try Confidence 20) but I recently heard SF Maxima Amator and they sounded great also. Keep up the good work! Greetings from The Netherlands.

it didn't best the sonus fabers, it was on par (talking about performance only). TAD bests my sonus fabers in terms of performance on paper and listening tests. It is also physically bigger than both the css and sonus faber + TAD speakers are 3 way speakers (has that natural advantage of having an extra driver to do the work etc)
@zeyuluke7278 Жыл бұрын
The only issue is the TAD speakers are extremely picky about AMPs. You will get a very good sound when matching with TAD's own AMP. Another brand called Analog Domain also matches very well maybe even better than TAD's own AMP. But they are damn expensive as the TAD speaker itself...

These were not designed by Andrew jones but definitely shadows many of his work at TAD and Pioneer. Elac unifi reference is a great speaker especially for the money but is physically a much smaller speaker - definitely does not go full range and side by side… there is just no comparison in every way (for me) in both material/physical appearance and sound quality
