Frederick Law Olmstead is a man who designed parks including Central Park in NYC and several parks in the Boston area. When he was elderly he lived in a nursing home. The nurses found him looking out the window and saying "I created all this!" so they assumed he had a god delusion and treated him as a crazy person. It wasn't until later that they learned that outside the window was a park he had designed, so he literally *had* created all that.

Yes! Pretty much my biggest complaint with hood customization in TS2 is the lack of terrain paint. You're telling me this entire neighborhood has a uniform unbroken grassy ground cover? And the downtown/concrete terrain is kind of a clumsy and unappealing way to represent urban areas using an engine that was designed only to portray suburban areas. Big cities still have foliage! And I'm not sure if this is any different in TS3 CAW but I wish there was a way to have a lot that isn't directly on a street, or even to change the size and shape of the street. It's weird that even downtown, none of the streets have more than 2 lanes.

I recently downloaded sims 2 inspired by your rotational play of knutley. I made my own world and I am having so much fun slowly filling it. I always loved the city, the urban environment, so the fact that I can build apartment buildings, then apartment buildings with working bars or coffee shops on the first floor (with mods but it does work), then have each lot being close to each other, making a high density district, downloaded some skyscrapers and decorative buildings that have their windows light up at night so the horizon actually looks like we're in a city, I mean... I'm just having so much joy with that precious little town of mine. It has been so long since I jumped back into sims 4 and the main reason is because I get overwhelmed. I just want to play the game, but for some reason I feel like I am pressured to be a "content creator" there, to direct my characters, think of storylines, to take screenshots as "evidence" so that there would be a slight memory of their lifes... I have explored most if not all sims 4 features and they're just emotionless animations, those sims have nothing to them unless I work as a director story creator, which gets tiring... I don't want to think of a plot, I want my sims to create a plot. Then playing sims 2 like you do, wants-based, I keep getting surprised - like on one glance we have just a few aspirations and some personality points, but somehow each and every sim is not only different, but acts differently too! They want different things, they are afraid of different things, sometimes I may have a plot in my head, but then the sim I'm playing is like "nope, this is my life" and I am just so entertained, I feel actually relaxed. Like the fact that I have a sim, who wants to be popular, but he isn't very nice or attractive so most other sims dislike him and gag when they see him, while he is oblivious and being outgoing he is just pointing finger guns to everyone being like "oh hey, hey whats up bro, yo" to anyone who he passes by, ignoring that they are puking from his existence, is just such an energy I can't. Sorry for a long comment. But yeah, sims 4 suks, sims 2 is totes adorbs

@TheDawnofVanlife Жыл бұрын
@@rawmilk905It’s kinda different though. In Sims 1 it was added to the neighborhood list of your main game while it was actively open. But you can’t like have populated newcrest and blank map newcrest open in the same play session as it’s a completely separate save. You could also do that in Sims 3 btw which natively allows multiple saves so you could bulldoze everything and save the maps blank, then open up a different save and have everything back. I still think Sims 2 makes it the most organic to add just an additional world you made to the selection screen, but it didn’t natively have save files so you’d have to save your neighborhood files, move them to a new folder, and boot the game back up to start fresh and manually swap them out or whatever if you wanted multiple saves. But since the worlds don’t overlap anyway, I never felt the need to. The way it natively handles enclosed worlds was fine. And in theory I could have a mega hood (combo of all the worlds) as just one of the selections on the main map screen and still have say vanilla strangetown accessible from the main menu screen in the same save file.

Would love to see a create a world utility for Sims 4. Tip I've found useful: When building, if you're required to add an item you don't want there, build a basement without stairs and put the items in the basement. Game can't tell the difference, then just pretend the unwanted items never existed.

For me personally: TS2 because it's more user-friendly. For creativity: TS3 definitely, I had so many amazing worlds like people made Dubai and New York City and many other beautiful life-like worlds. Sadly I don't think it's possible for TS4 to add this because of the way the maps are :/ unless they were to do it in the same way the T.O.O.L mod works. I think we can only hope that in TS5 they realise the mistake they made and give us back our ability to create our own worlds!!

Another thing with the Sims 2: once you have your custom neighbourhood, you can expand that into any number of neighbourhoods by adding downtowns, shopping districts, and universities. Since custom downtowns are very customisable you can basically use them as additional towns - I have five (or six?) downtowns connected to my neighbourhood as different towns or villages where my Sims can live or go shopping or whatever. It's a lot of fun to see where they will end up living! Like, someone might live in an apartment in the big city for awhile after university and then buy a house in their hometown, someone else might fall in love with someone from another town and choose to settle down there... There are just so many possibilities! I've always been hesitant to the Sims 4 due to the different ways the worlds work... Watching this, I don't think I could ever enjoy playing it like I enjoy TS2 because like you, I LOVE creating and expanding on my own worlds!

In Sims 1 you could add up to neighbourhood 99 (from Unleashed onward). You could replace any lot with 1 of 2 hidden oversized lots by simply copying and renaming the oversized lot to the lot number you wanted to replace. On a loaded lot you could edit map and add more buildable grid squares to the lot. Mind you, oversized and custom edited lots looked a bit weird on the neighbourhood map view, afterward. You could replace the neighbourhood map with a custom one to accommodate this but the replacement would apply to all current and future neighbourhoods for as long as the new map was in your game. There was also a user created external tool called Lot Manager that allowed us to copy any lot, residential or community including vacation lots and magic town lots and place any number of copies of it in every neighbourhood you wanted. So if I built a community lot that I really liked I could copy and place it in every neighbourhood (instead of building it from scratch, again). Without the Lot Manager this can be done manually by copying the lot from the neighbourhood files and overwriting/pasting that lot in other neighborhood folders but it is very tedious. Sadly, Windows 10 will not let Lot Manager interact with The Sims files. Lot Manager can see all your neighbourhoods and show you what the lots look like and it can copy them but it can't overwrite anything (but if you try it doesn't give any error message; the changes simply don't take once you load up the game). I still use it to view & copy lots and then use the tedious method of making changes. Oh, you could also edit neighbourhoods without closing the game, as long as the one you were editing wasn't the one loaded on your screen. For being first in the franchise, I think Sims 1 was pretty great. Sims 3 CAW sounds awesome but daunting. Sims 2 has the best overall and user friendly options, I think. Sims 4 is just puzzling; for a game that really hypes it's build buy mode, it makes no sense at all to have such limited lot options and no way to expand existing worlds or create anything new or even just have multiple versions of worlds like even Sims 1 had. Sims 4 sure is pretty, though. I'm glad you made this video, Cindy. As long as they are still doing things with Sims 4, there's hope they can add/offer us something in the way of better options for world builds. Squeaky wheel gets the oil and all that so thanks for squeaking, lol. I second your squeak! ~FM :)

I never knew about these possibilities that could have been done in the SIMS 1??? Like hello? Here we though we took steps back in the evolution, but this is completely an extinction! I know one modder tried to make an open world type in the sims 4, but the world just happens in 1 lot so you are still limited as you have to play with just one household in that lot. The fact that even such a good moder can't edit the game files in a way sims 1 gave the ability to do just shows how CAW of any kind was just crossed out when developing sims 4.

It's worth noting that in the sims 3 you can freely place lots and they don't have to be at the road. I love downloading custom worlds in sims 3 because you can get worlds that incorporate all the expansion packs. Shoutout to mysimsrealty 🙂

I read comments from die hard sims 4 fans about how the sims3 worlds feel too big. It’s kind of like how a child tells you that their parents love them very much, when in reality their parents are abusing them and telling them the outside world is worse then the people in the house beating the 💩 out of them. Sorry about the downtrodden comment, was scrolling through people’s comments and a comment of a comment jumped out at me. Love your comparison videos I grew up playing sims 2 and then simletplays 3 when it came out, it took me over 5 years to get sims 4 and I only got it because it was so cheap on steam and most of the KZbin letsplay where on sims 4.

I have only ever played Sims 4 and one time played Sims Medieval. Thus, i am unfamiliar with world building and such. I often play in Newcrest so I can create my own neighborhood and ignore "set dressing" around me. I guess if it was available, I might use world building . . . but since I haven't even experimented with the terrain features in Sims 4, I doubt I would be too worried about it too soon. That said, I can see how Simmers can want their own style worlds, etc. and would be most attracted to Sims 2 or Sims 3.

Thanks for another great video. I am not sure how much experience you have with the sims 3 custom worlds but there are so many masterpieces out there other than Simsrealty ones. Uranesia, Boroughsburg, Praaven, Tokyosou, E-Seoul, Mont Saint Michel, Al Medina and Eastlands.. and so on.... Maybe these big worlds dont really suit your play style but it would be good to visit them sometimes and play around for your twitch streams or short LP series when you need some fresh air. They are just jaw-dropping...

I loved to make my own little neighborhood, build houses, create my own storyline everytime I would be bored of the in game worlds. The Sims 2 world tools are by far the best. My favourite way to play the game is to create everything from scratch and build everything to my own tastes and story ideas.
