And the last survivors were.......👇 (1930 WC) Francisco "PANCHO" Varallo - Played for Argentina and was the youngest player in the tournament. -Nick name "PANCHO" -Born on 5th February 1910 and died on 30th August 2010 at age 100th. (1934 WC) František Plánčka - Played for Czechoslovakia -Played as goalkeeper Died 20th July 1994 at 92 years of age. (1938 WC) Pietro Rava - played for Italy (winners) - left back. Not very well known is that Ferenc Puskas, Sandor Kocsis, and Nandor Hidegkuti were all ethnic Germans and born as Franz Purzfeld, Alexander Wagner, and Ferdinand Kaltenbrunner, respectively. Their families were Danube Swabonians that magyarized their names in the 1930s and 40s to avoid ethnic discrimination. [Even Hungary's coach. Gusztav Sebes, was born as Gustav Sensenbrenner]. This doesn't mean Puskas, Kocsis and Hidegkuti should somehow not have played for Hungary (Germany won the 2014 World Cup with players born as Poles and Turks), but it's an interesting thought what would have happened had they been part of the Austrian or German squads. They were the perhaps three best strikers of the time, complemented one another perfectly, and would have given any time a huge quality push. Another Danube Swabonian - Josef Posipal - played in the 1954 World Cup final for Germany.

Clearly, Hungary was the best team of the era. Unbeaten for 4 years till Bern. This is why it was such a big sport achievement for Germany to beat that dream team. Germany was good, but had also luck with Hungary being conceited after the 8-3 win in the group round, and they were also exhausted due to an extension time win against a very tough Uruguay in the semi-final.

I haven't seen the footage showing whether Puskas was offside so I can't make a value judgement - if you have seen it, care to pass the link? As for #3, the study does NOT conclusively prove that Germans were high. It says players were given vitaminC as placebo for recovering from fatigue and some needles were ALLEGEDLY not cleansed from prior use (amphetamines). There has been no new evidence.

Puskas mentioned in the latest Puskas movie that after scoring second goal they became too self confident and didn't take the game as seriously as they should have. Finally they couldn't equalize however they scored a goal which was invalidated by the referee

Die hatten alle Stars wie Ronaldo, Cafu, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos und so. Jetzt sind 10 Jahre vergangen und deren Zeit ist erstmals abgelaufen. Hungary were easily the best team in the early to mid-50s. In the final Puskas was not fully fit( badly fouled in the torrid match with Brazil) and yet his equaliser should have stood as it was not off-side. Germany were at an advantage as it was a soggy pitch and they wear wearing Adi Daschler made boots which were better suited for such conditions. Read somewhere that the Magyars refused to wear them.

Actually Puskas was deliberately injured by Liebrich during the first game between Hungary and Germany at the 1st stage. He did not play against Brazil.

Ich hab einige spiele deren U 19, 20, 21 gesehen was so gesehen die naechste generation ist, und die haben nichts gezeigt. Schoen Samba fussball, aber keine erfolge.
