You guys have done a superb job summarizing a game that’s so incredibly hard to narrate to capture what happened on this Day. As an Indian following it , it was enthralling, and like Jeff mentioned, we feel for Afghanistan player and the coach too.. there was a brief instant where Jonathan Trofts face was captured, and the heart break and lost look on his face was heart wrenching. But having said all this , We were incredibly lucky to watch something like this ! It’s one the greatest innings I have personally seen in any format of the game and that’s pretty much everyone’s opinion as well… if there was a movie made about a story like this.. I would have called it an RRR type of movie and critiqued it that the director had exaggerated the hero’s achievement because, such a thing could never happen in Real life , except it did ! Just unbelievable and just incredibly awesome that I got to see it !!!!!

It was one of the best innings in ODI (if not the best) but surely you two could have mentioned just how woeful the bowling was to him once he got injured. Afghanistan just lost the plot and continuously bowled length at him at the same pace. There was little wide stuff, short stuff or off pace deliveries that would have made him have to work a little harder.

Geoff, reading your Guardian piece on Maxi was, to a degree, like reading poetry because we watched something more happening than a man wacking a ball with a bat however skilled that was. We watched something indefinable on show. Something difficult to describe in words. But something that moved us. And that is what poetry does. It moves us by succinctly giving words to the indefinable.

Maxwell has been one of my favourite players since I 1st saw him smash Tassie in a List A Game circa 2011. I think it was the fastest list A 50 at the time, certainly the fastest Aussie one. I think he is the greatest lost opportunity of Australian cricket of this generation. (Phil Hughes' tragic death aside). Very obviously one of the most talented bats in the country even at that age. But he was pigeon-holed as a limited overs slogger & treated very poorly by the selectors. Sad to think about what he could have been as a test player if nurtured properly and given a fair go. But I'm stoked to see him light up this World Cup.

One of the greatest ODI innings ever, especially against a rising power like Afghanistan. But the fielding side completely botched this one. Dropped catches, poor bowling, not taking advantage of Glenn’s cramps, not making him reach for deliveries. They were sitting back and celebrating already after the seventh wicket. A player like Maxwell only gives you one or two chances tops.

This may get lost but...I am interested to hear your thoughts on the Stoinis catch. I am a big believer in the fact that as long as fingers are under the ball, contact with the ground is still OUT. For instance, Gill was clearly out in the WTC final and the Strac catch from the Ashes was clearly not-out. But in the Stoinis catch I saw the ball move from one hand to the other while grazing the ground on the way. As I understand the laws that is not-out. I am curious as to why you think there was umpire error.

Great ball striking and a gutsy performance by one of the most talented short format cricketers from Australia ! But to call it “the greatest ODI innings” i don’t think so !! as this game was meaningless to Australia and was not against India NZ England SA Pakistan or even Sri Lanka or Bangladesh. Compiling stats against Netherlands or Zimbabwe or Ireland or Afghanistan in group games is the same as any of Rohit Sharma double tons or Chris gayle.s innings in 2015. To qualify for The greatest ODI list please at least restrict it to the finals or semis of the WC or Champions trophy at least when there’s real pressure and something on the line like Gilchrist or Ponting etc Wake me up when the big show actually produces in one of those games. He is definitely talented based on all his century records in ODI his test century under pressure against India etc but in the clutch ODI games he’s mostly choked or tried to give away his wicket like against Pakistan in 2015 where again a crucial catch was dropped. Feel free to be homers for the first Aussie ODI double ton but to put this on list of greatest ODI innings is a disservice considering it’s context and opposition. Please factor in the game and context. AB in 2015 had an even better knock statistically for his 162 or Viv Richard’s in terms of difficulty it feels like we are all in a rush to anoint something the greatest in today’s cricket so let’s all take a break and carefully evaluate each on its merits and context before the announcements and proclamations!!

Such a great episode talking about Maxwell, cricket, passion, and Australian win but unnecessarily Adam Collins has to take one customary dig at Indian cricket, not BCCI, mind you, it has to be Indian fans or cricketers. Constant efforts to make this world a far more hateful and divided place, Collins never fails with his cynicism. Just can't let go without laughing off or making fun of India. He is not even racist, just a moral and intellectual supremacist. Ibrahim Zadran paid dues to someone else, you would just report it as it is and talk about it positively but what could Sachin do, he was a shit batter, wasn't he, or like always again for the millionth time you implied that Indian fans have low IQ and Ibrahim played them. Adam Collins is a true leftist and a true cricket fan, and India, or every Indian according to him rightwinger and xenophobic. Collins' videos should be made compulsory by right-wingers to teach how to constantly tell someone that they are not good enough as a civilization. With his intellect, we can increase supremacism in the world along with racism. After all, it is all about making this world a far worse place. All hail Collins! By the way, Adam, ICC still has not announced that the world test championship will not place as you had promised in March that if India lost, you guarantee it will never happen again. Let's nominate Collins for Pulitzer of Hate.
