Hikaru Ono's Pappuren is way more harmonious and gives the idea of the flow of the kata. Sanchez gave all, the kata was awesome but probably also for the tension, it seemed an ensemble of isolated techniques.

That aside, even though Shimizu is definitely amazing and is currently top of the world, her snapping sound is not close to the godly Rika Usami. I don't know what makes the difference, but Rika's snaps really give you the chill. Shimizu is more "Wow" but not speechless. But haha what do I know...

no but seriously since this is kind of the kata of Rika Usami, and since they do it in a similar way u really get the feeling of her being a b-version of Usami, even though obviously she is beyond superb.

The difference is risk usami is slapping her gi. It's not actual snap. Don't get me wrong her kata is beautiful and awesome, but if you watch her hands closely you can see her smacking her gi. But I do love watching rika usami, big fan

A well deserved win Shimizu. Sanchez need choose a more simple kata and do the basic snaps better. 2+ and 1- to Sanchez. 6+ and none - to Shimizu.

People seem to always say sanchez has power, thus rating her better. but if you look carefully on replays, in sanchez, most of stance changes end points where turns are involved always wobble and have slight a recoil. They dont stop dead. To me this indicates she is stiff to obtain that power and not in perfect control. Her low stances are not as low as japanese karateka, especially in chatanyara kunshanku. In comparison, Shimizu movement and end points are always crisp with no wobbling or recoil at all. Same crisp movements and end points are seen in rika usami. Rika usami stance transition were lower and better and the her jumps and jump kicks were way better because the height she achieved.

That chatanyara kusanku is so fast, but if you play it in slow motion, the techniques is not entirely correct, especially first sequence.. Don't get me wrong, i just wonder why all elite karate do that in chatanyara kusanku
