It's time for me to do a proper comparison of these 2 ports. No fanboyisms, just the hard truth. WH come out when the fighting game phenomenon was starting to rise. It was Neo Geos third title to offer as an alternative to the massively popular Street Fighter 2. Like Art Of Fighting and Fatal Fury, there were not a lot of fighters to choose from. But decent nonetheless. Please see below; SNES Conversion - The Good: All the fighters and moves are there. Sounds and graphics are very close to the Neo Geo. Soundtrack is great. Fighting action is silky smooth. Controls are responsive and all the endings and cinemas are present. Easy to do the combos. Overall, a very solid translation. The Bad: AI is either too easy, or easy for it to whoop your ass. Censored due to Nintendos regulations on violent content at that period of time. Death match, is now Fatal Match. Some voices are a little off. Some background sprites or animations are missing like the damaged warplane in Brockens level, or the spinning wheels in Rasputins level. Not the full intro was included. The action is really slow! Overall: Beautiful translation that does the original justice. Not perfect by any means, but excellent. Genesis- The Good: Presentation is actually decent. The intro was included. Uncensored, and most of the animations and sprites are there. Looks decent from a still shot. The Bad: Where do I begin? Action is a bit faster, but choppy as heck. Graphics are a little blurry, and the colours are stale. Some moves look terrible. AI is completely drunk. CPU keeps kicking and punching and can be smashed with long distance attacks. Sounds are an abomination! Voices are so garbled and staticky. Not all the soundtracks made it. Hanzou, Janne, Muscle Power, Rasputin, J Karn, and Geegus themes were cut out. Some tracks are great, others sound like bumblebees. No endings for any fighter? Overall: A sorry excuse for a translation. I remember being excited when this was released for SG. Whoever was responsible for this version should be deeply ashamed. Too many flaws, and no excuses. Seriously, they could have taken their time and developed a much better port than this abomination. This seems rushed, and developed poorly. A sad disappointment here.

The Shadowgunner if someone says something about a games flaws or strengths without any facts or personal experiences, of course I’m going to question them. For example you can say mk2 sucks on genesis. Or you can genesis’s mk2 is inferior because it’s lacks voices, color palette is low and some fighter don’t even have the right color uniforms, and the bones disappear on fatalities.

The Genesis version has perspective scrolling on the ground tiles. I've noticed this on other comparison videos. It's also very obvious in Mortal Kombat 3 - the ground perspective changes when the screen scrolls left or right on the Genesis version, but not the SNES version.

Quite a few differences between Genesis and Super NES versions. Each version has its good and bad points. Fanboys would have enough to argue at schoolyards which one was “better”. Considering this was always a 2nd tier SF2 ripoff, does it even matter? Well, it plays very well and is good fun, if bettered by its sequels. Overall, a solid effort for both systems.

Word is only 1 guy did all the work for the Genesis version, and was given a tight deadline to do it in. The Genesis version didn't even see a Japan release even.

Something went wrong with the Mega Drive/Genesis version, it has bigger screen size (taller), added line scrolling effect for the floor (which gives a 3D look), more frames of animation & even the scaling effect on the earth during the intro so the guys worked quite well except once you reach the gameplay part which feels so awkward, not solid at all, that this litteraly ruins this otherwise promising version.

If you guys complain about either version you should know that this game even for Neo Geo was bad. It had 82 megs and looked and felt like it was less than that. Smaller sprites than usual, cheesy sound effects, slow and characters lacking of charming, features that are vital if you want a fighting game to become popular. Luckily, SNK corrected all of that in World Héroes 2 and presented us a better game with 114 megs.

They did make a few minor improvements on the SNES port tho... Faster gameplay and easier combos was among those. 6-button controller compatibility was also pretty nice. Not bad at all, considering it was only a 16 meg cart!

One thing to consider is that despite the 16-bit versions of Neo Geo games miss some details, we have to give credit to the programmers to fit in a hi-meg game into a 16, 24 or 32 meg cart. World Heroes and World Heroes 2 for SNES are very good affordable versions.

Unlike Fatal Fury, this time the Super Nes wins it overall with a conversion that is about as close as you're likely to get with everything equally great and good! The Genesis on paper does a pretty good stab at the game though with a higher animation frame rate but it misses out on some background elements though and the sound is unbearable. Lastly the Super Nes version was converted by the legendary Sunsoft games (I didn't even know they converted games as Takara come too mind!!) and Sunsoft most of the time don't make crap!!!

No one ever talks about the sacrifices that were made to get Sam Sho bigger sprites on the Genesis. Boatloads of animation cuts, missing scenes, like the first encounter with Amakusa when he is in flame form (seriously, even the Game Boy port had this scene), missing vocal tracks, missing detail, half of each characters ending was axed, stages never moved up and down when you jumped, missing scene with Amakusa powering up when he loses a round, no Earthquake. And the Sega CD port, no ref, no announcer, too much missing. Those claiming the Genesis Sam Sho port is better, never notices all the things wrong with it. While in Japan, the PS1 got a port of it and the second game, and outside of load times, is remarkable.

Well, it COULD'VE been pretty good if either Sunsoft or Takara had ported it; but instead it got outsourced it to some largely unknown Chicago-based developer called 'Sega Midwest Studio' to do the port and they did a hella sloppy questionable job... The company only released like 4 games, and then they folded just a year later!

A versão do Mega Drive tem resolução gráfica superior, além de usar toda a tela (no SNES há tarjas pretas em cima e embaixo). No Mega também tem o efeito de parallax no chão, ausente no SNES. Fora de que a velocidade está mais lenta no SNES.

@@CelsoHenriqueAlvesdeOliveira sempre considero a maneira como os dois consoles trabalham com áudio, mas nesse port o Super Nintendo de fato se mostrou superior em trilha sonora, mas principalmente vozes... Porém em gráficos as coisas invertem, além da resolução maior no Mega Drive e efeitos de scrolling paralax, também é nítido a melhor apresentação na versão do Mega, com custscenes no começo (ausentes no SNES), melhores retratos de personagens e mini-covers na barra de vida. Mesmo assim os gráficos no Super Nintendo também possuem seus bônus, as duas versões têm cenários bem diferentes e divertidos e nesse quesito nada mais justo que um empate, ao mais as cores também são mais agradáveis no console da Nintendo 👍

@@andore_btt só que tem um porém, na fase bônus a versão do Mega Drive colocaram roupa na estátua do fisiculturista e na versão do Super Nintendo a estátua está igual a versão do Neo Geo de sunga, resolução isso é o de menos em Street Fighter 2 Special Champion Edition usaram barras pretas em cima e em baixo e ninguém reclamou, personagens invisíveis na contagem de pontos sem finais e frameskip baixo aí não dá...

Resolução é algo que importa sim, um exemplo que lembro bem é de quando a molecada não sabia o que eram as barras pretas nos jogos, pensavam até que era um problema na TV às vezes, fora que, quanto menor a resolução, mais pixelado o jogo fica, o campo de visão é prejudicado e pode até ocorrer da imagem ficar embaçada

SNES version actually has the proper arcade music, the Genesis version, like stuff made by Matt Furniss, took liberties with the soundtrack. Not to mention the music is using the legendary awful GEMS sound driver, it might've benefited from using the Cube sound driver instead.

Genesis version doesn't look better though, the thing was developed in 6 weeks and was rushed out. The time to program it should've taken a bit longer, might've turned out better. Not to mention the fact the game was literally programmed and scored by one guy.

It killed alright, it's fanbase by constantly requiring them to upgrade with useless addons till the Saturn came around, and the fans got burned again by an early release and a software drought of 6 months, then burned again by Sega abandoning consoles in the DC era. Sega sure knew how to kill......itself.

No, both are good, and I grew up with an SNES, and had friends who had Genesis systems. Both have a great library behind them.
