Well, I think Korea was the first “undeclared” U.S. war, officially known as a U.N. Police Action. That’s when we began using “Operation” to describe everything. Vietnam was actually declared the “Vietnam Era”. Actual declared wars were divided by individual operations, such as Operation Overlord that led to the June 6, 1944 D-Day landing in France.
