Alittle FIY Fact:Lewis and Clark used a Girandoni Repeating Air Rifle, also known as the Windbüchse, on their expedition to explore the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The rifle was designed by Italian inventor Bartolomeo Girandoni around 1779. The Girandoni was a .46-caliber, four-foot-long, 10-pound pneumatic weapon with a removable metal air tank that could fire 22 lead balls in rapid succession. It had a gravity-fed tubular magazine and 12-groove ratchet rifling in the bore. The rifle came with three detachable air reservoirs that required about 1,500 strokes of a pump to fully pressurize. Each reservoir had a specialized valve to prevent air from escaping, and the rifle could fire roughly 40 shots before its muzzle velocity suffered. Lewis and Clark used the Girandoni in a variety of ways, including impressing tribes with its power and helping them pass safely through hostile areas. An original Girandoni military pattern rifle of the type used by Lewis and Clark is on exhibit at the NRA National Sporting Arms Museum in Springfield, MO.

You should probably find out exactly how California laws define a firearm. Also, it could be the case you're banned from possessing any instruments with an intended use of weapon. I would check with a couple of criminal lawyers and read up on California laws first before owning one. Interpretation of the law can be tricky and is often vague...usually not to the benefit of citizens.

These are definitely state-of-the-art airguns. I do fear that as these approach mainstream status and become more affordable, congressional legislators will target them for regulation. In the past these have been the domain of hunters and hobbyists but self defenders will bring the spotlight to their use and misuse.

@@Biffo1262 As far as I know it was the Austrian army that used the Girandoni air rifle that is mentioned in another comment during the Napoleonic wars. Airguns were around almost since the advent of firearms in Europe. they were often used by poachers and in many parts of Germany they were made illegal by the authorities for this reason. Some gunsmiths took the game of cat and mouse to the next level by cleverly disguising their airguns with fake flintlocks etc. as normal black powder hunting guns. untill the French revolution in 1889 hunting was a priviledge reserved forthe nobility and they sharply guarded their right with often draconic punishments if a commoner was caught going after deer and other game bigger than a rabbit.

This big bore air rifle are not worth it, not even as powerful as a 22lr, the equipment you need to fire 5-8 rounds with enough power is insane! I have no need for airtanks, enough power for even a small hog, and otherwise I have a 22lr, which is more powerful as a big bore 9mm air rifle!

I have the Megalodon .58 and my favorite thing about it is the boom, me and my lady went shooting in the forest and when listened to right after her 9mm Glock, you would think the mega was the real firearm, the glock makes a little tinny pop gun sound compared the deep base dubstep boom of the megalodon, and the mega echoed where the Glock did not, so you know the sound went way farther, sublime bass you can feel describes it pretty well. the only downside is how long it takes to fill, but I got around that by getting a 30L tank and filling that up at home (takes 3 hours) then bringing it with us and just keeping it plugged in to the mega, then you can go broke firing those massive dollar fifty a round slugs. yep the other downside is even in bulk, ammo is 30 bucks for 20 and I've found it only on sites that sell the gun, so if you plan on having this for an end of world scenario you better buy 1000 bucks in ammo now haha, I did, you never know. :)

If things don't work out as a GunTuber you can Ray Harryhausen. ;-) Hit a hardware store and get the no-skid mats to put under stuff which might move - inexpensive, simple and reusable. $999 on gogun - impressive results on the gel and lumber though - that'll definitely drop any medium and potentially some large game. Odd choice in making it pump - guess that was a cost reduction measure seeing as how it's at $1k. OK, after the stainless steel trays, I'm going to recommend hitting your local bowling alley and buying some used pins to shoot at. That's some VERY inconsistent velocity - you seem to be struggling a bit with the pump - that might be resulting in it not getting fully charged with each pump. Good review as always.

Hello my very resourceful friend! Great minds… I bought two counter no skid matts as soon as I got home hehe Well the pump looked a bit un-smooth during the first shoot, which was the chrono if I’m not mistaking, because I put silicon oil down the pump action rails, and managed to get oil on the whole thing. So it was nice and slippery at the beginning. I need to do more chrono testing, that 970 fps anomaly shot was pretty interesting! Thanks as always Sean!

Pretty awesome! Appreciate. Got a quick story you may appreciate. Here in U.S. during the 60’s, many families had the old super 8 cameras and stop action was used a bunch in filming B horror movies. My now deceased brother at the age of only 12, used our Dad’s camera to stop action film his friend sitting as if he was in a make believe go cart on the cement walk around our pool. He had the action of scuttling around the pool to the diving board and then it finished with his friend looking as if he had jumped off the diving board and landed at the other end of the pool. 😆

On your chrony tests, you were getting a lot of visible air burst over the chrony, which is probably the reason the numbers were so inconsistent. Probably would have had better numbers if you were another 5 feet back. But that would make it harder to center your shots over the sensors, so there's that.
@AirgunAlley
@AirgunAlley 2 ай бұрын
True my friend, you’re very right - another step back would’ve probably been the best thing to do! But I always shoot all guns from the same distance - more or less. It just happens to be that, when I shoot that early in the morning in the everglades, the humidity makes that strong cloud effect - which makes the chrono look like it’s being inundated with air. Which it is. But again, nothing different from all my other videos/readings. Anyway, I have a NateChrony that I need to start testing, as soon as I have a smaller caliber we’ll see how that works! Hope it’ll be a good alternative….

The .45 megalodon I bought from Bluegrass busts through busts through 2 by 4s with ease, they really are very made well. AEA needs to come out with replacement magazines quicker though. Great vid as always. Wonder if the numbers would be more consistent if you bumped grains down to a lower number, still hits hard with the projectile being fired though.
@AirgunAlley
@AirgunAlley 2 ай бұрын
Thanks so much man! And I’m so glad you’re happy with your .45! You know, I tried lighter, hollow skirts, but for some reason they weren’t allowing the mags to rotate. I tried both mags, same result. Sadly I didn’t have time to inspect further, so I just did not showcase those lighter (375gr) slugs. I think the numbers would’ve been more consistent without that 970fps freak shot, that threw everything off. Again, more testing needed :)

Awesome, Miami! The Megalodon looks to be a mega heavy hitter! Btw, I am of Italian descent also; "Corino" from the Asti province. Your pronunciation is likely closer to the correct genus/species in the original Latin! The pump action is a winner also. This could be a great home defense addition. I, for one, would love to see you give up your stop animation intros. A person like you with a brain like yours has too many other things you could be doing with your time versus setting up those gnome pics. Enjoy the little free time you have with your family, friends, and other interests. I'll keep watching even without the intros!
@AirgunAlley
@AirgunAlley 2 ай бұрын
Signor Corino from Asti! I had no doubt you’d originally be from that area…. As the best wine and the best blood comes from up there. Too bad for the excessive fog, but that’s a whole other story! Thank you so much for your kind words and much agreed on the awesome properties this rifle has! And yesss the intros are a big pain in the ass quite frankly ahaha! It takes so much time and brain energy to just come up with ideas for those. BUT, I have two buts: 1) making stop motions is actually a very meditative process that I don’t mind at all. I get to disconnect from the world and just be highly concentrated on every movement. It’s a very peaceful and calming activity. And 2) the first 30 seconds of a video are the most crucial. You want as many people as possible to be watching those first 30 seconds. That gives the algorithm a strong signal that the video is worth spreading to more viewers. That’s why I put so much effort in the intros :) KZbin is a mean and competitive world, and if one wants to make it worth it… well, things like this need to be done :) As always Micheal, I truly and really appreciate you !

Hey Mate, One of your best Videos till now. One Point of critic: We all saw the bullets going trough the wood. But....how much Energy ist left? What about cutting the wood in half and try to shoot trough both pieces?maybe it pens both... I saw the Stones fly away behind the wood ...there was massive Energy left. I also think huben pistol and megalodon ist a great com bo. Well done Sir👍🏻

so looking at the spread of velocities from 398 to 9hundred something, I'm wondering why such a wide spread. Tank to low? operator error? faulty equip?

What if the attacking zombie wears 2 thick leather jackets because he knows that homedefenders meanwhile use tuned airguns? The bigger the projectile and the more pliable the first layers of the target the more the projectile looses its penetrating energy. That’s why all the reviewers use hard targets. It explodes and that looks cool. In a stress situation you usually don’t aim for the head 🤷🏽‍♂️

10:00 That "1033 FPE" shot seems like an error, since the AEA site gives it this max rating: ".58 Cal 450Gr @ 775 fps UP TO 585 FPE" (and the other shots in your string have much lower velocity)

Magalodon is an awesome rifle but 50 cal makes way more sense. Not that far behind in terms of power but much more consistent and has many more useful shots. Probably cheaper ammo too.
@AirgunAlley
@AirgunAlley 2 ай бұрын
Hey there! You make very good points. With the 50 cal you get 8 shots in a mag and probably a higher shot count, as it may use a little less air. BUT, the power on the .58 is unmatchable. I tested the 45 cal and it was considerably weaker (well it also had a shorter barrel). So the 50 cal is probably somewhere in between
@-Ricochet-
@-Ricochet- 2 ай бұрын
@@AirgunAlley The .58 is indeed the most powerful megalodon, no doubt about that. However, your shot string was: 458, 1033, 514, 590, 508, 393, 163. The .50/.51 cal is capable of 435 / 470 FPE so .58 is vastly more powerful during only 1 shot, which seems more like a fluke TBH. For close up shooting this is really cool but for longer distances I'd imagine that consistency is more crucial. Same goes for the arc you get at considerably lower velocities.. I haven't found a proper test of a .50/.51 cal with 22 inch barrel yet but the 15 inch version performs really well at longer distances and seems to be better tuned. Oh, and great review!
