Hey friend, The correct (traditional and most common) picking technique on Charango and Ronroco is - Thumb on G Thumb on C Index on E (doubled octave) Middle on A Ring on E We call it Rasgueo and it has several patterns for Huaynos, Morenadas, etc. The traditional strum pattern for Charango Huaynos is Um Paca Um paca Um Paca Which is 8th two sixteenth notes. The accent goes on the CA from Um PaCA (so the last 16th note of the strumming pattern). The patterns are also swung, as in to elongate the last part of the subdivision. Hope that helps! For more Charango tutorials watch Luciel Izumi, Naysha or Ivan Deiana Ronroco is the Tenor version of Charango, transposed to the key of e minor.

@@PermenterOrchestra Thank you! Yeah when I got this a long time ago the information about it was limited. I hope to one day go to South America and see and hear the music in person.

Thank you so much for doing this!! On the charango are you strumming with your index finger and thumb? I have to work on my palm stopping I think I'm stopping with my knuckles like a door knock. lol Explains why it's not very rhythmic for me.

yes. I forgot to mention that I used to use a pick but for some reason I slowly stopped using one. So now I just hold my fingers like I’m using a pick, on the down stroke my index finger is hitting the strings with my index finger nail and on the up stroke the back of my thumb nail is hitting the strings, exactly as if I was holding a pick.

I didn't know the Ukulele had a higher pitch string on the top? I thought it was just like a regular guitar, but with fewer strings, tuned in a similar way...is that normal or just a preference? I do like how it allows for a circular rhythm to be played easily. The more you know!

Yup! The traditional tuning has the higher string, but what’s nice is if you play guitar you can play the Uke exactly like bottom four strings of the guitar. G,C,D, just turns into C,F, and G.
