Brian Brown is probably the most capable "local" guy out there, but it's still always fun to see local guys have a real chance. That's one of the things that makes this sport so cool. Each track has some local guys and when the Outlaws are in town they have just as fair of a shot to be up there as anyone.

Brad Sweet is quietly having a championship season and possibly going to win it all again for points. Only 1 win but more consistent then everyone else with top 5 and top 10s. Carson Macedo, Logan Schuchart, Sheldon Haudenschild, and David Gravel somethings look like they gain on Brad Sweet in the points but then get a bad finish here and there and lose whatever they gained in points on Brad Sweet.

If you can find the older Indy 500 races preserved via 16mm film check them out on YT. I watched the 1955 race last night. That really puts things into perspective. Someobdy died during the race, and they continued.

That somebody was Bill Vukovich. He had won the previous 2 years and was looking to become the first 3 time winner. Even though he only raced in the 500, 5 times, he is still in the top 10(#8) of CAREER Laps Led.

@@plantfeeder6677 Thanks. My memory isn't that good anymore. If my memory is correct they also had a sprint car race on a dirt track inside or outside of Indy track during the month. I like the old - bring what you got mentality of the Indy 500 as the spec cars limit creativity.

@@mutantryeff your memory is pretty good. Yes, they use to race at Indianapolis Raceway Park prior to running the 500. It was a 1/2 mile paved oval that was pretty treacherous and fast. Back then 99% of the Indy car drivers came from the paved and dirt short tracks almost all driving Midgets in USAC and before in AAA. Bill Vukovich was the AAA National Midget Champion in 1948 and '49. I'd be surprised if any of these drivers today would even be allowed to run in that race

So did Gravel get penalized for blatantly jumping a row on that restart? Of course not. That is exactly why restarts should be single file. Positions should be gained by actual green flag racing, not getting away with a jump because of the double file gimmick. Congrats to Brown though! That was along time coming and nice to see him get 1 over the WOO at his home track.

Single file restarts suck! Say that you started sixth on the outside of the third row. A yellow flag comes out on lap two. If you haven't passed any cars,you are now relegated to the sixth row as it's now single file. So,instead of being three car lengths from the leader,you are now six. The leader is already on turn two before the last place car has even passed the cone. What's good about that?

I'd rather see more true outlaws that pick and choose rather than follow the tour. Screw corporate racing. Seeing the WOO get beat by locals and true outlaws is what makes it interesting. I wouldn't even pay attention to the WOO at all if there was no one out there that could beat them.
