Me too, he's not always on the top step but he's never out there throwing haymakers and junking cars needlessly either. Mad respect for that.

Congratulations Mr. Gravel! The track was in great shape. The competition was awesome as usual. But I just don't understand making a dirt track with that big drop off in turns 3 and 4. How many cautions were brought out due to that drop off. Hmm. Great racing though.
@Jennerational
@Jennerational Жыл бұрын
In regards to the drop off - have you been to this track before? The high banking is substantially higher than it appears. There's a reason it's the fastest track on the circuit . . .

Not how rubber works. As soon as everyone finds it the race is over nobody is passing anyone else at that point. Gravel couldn't even get past a lap car they were all so bolted down on the rubber..

Can you please describe in layman's terms why any rubber (or more rubber?) on a dirt track is not necessarily good for sprint car racing? I've been watching sprints for a long time, but just now noticing drivers & fans sometimes complaining about it.
@larryb7969
@larryb7969 Жыл бұрын
@@nascagepretty sure Jazzyjeff is talking about something else but here's the good and the bad. When the track takes rubber the cars hook up really well and can run hard. The problem for the drivers is it's hell on tires and if they're not careful they will run them bald and then flat. The problem for spectators is it doesn't make for great racing because everyone can get traction and no one can pass. The key to sprint car racing is finding traction, all of these cars are way too light and have way too much power to be running on dirt so the key is being able to stick. That being said, it worked out great in this race because the top was the fastest until the rubber started to stick and then Gravel found it and was able to drive around JMac.
@nascage
@nascage Жыл бұрын
@@larryb7969 Thank you! That was a great explanation. So, when there isn't rubber laid down, the cars are able to pull sliders on each other, and pass one another, and it's now more so about driving skills than the actual setup of your car?
@industrialpalletworx3548
@industrialpalletworx3548 Жыл бұрын
@AZNative43 that's part of it. Early on the moisture helps with traction. When they find the sweet spot of moisture they take off like they were shot out of a cannon
@djjazzyjeff1232
@djjazzyjeff1232 Жыл бұрын
@@nascage That other guy did a solid job explaining it, but that's the gist of it. When Rubber comes down it just turns into follow the leader, nobody passes, they all just circulate the track equidistant from each other until it's over. You'll notice toward the end of this race if you watch it back, David Gravel in the 2 car wasn't even able to pass the lap car, 11m Brendan Mullen. The leader and the guy in like 19th were the same speed, that doesn't make for good racing. When the rubber comes down, the race is effectively over at that point, the field sort of "freezes" and everyone is stuck in the position they're in until the Checked flag flies.

Good race for Gravel, he usually has a tough time on bull rings. WoW should stick to the 1/2 miles IMO. 410 are about horsepower, these little tracks reign them in too much.
