Having the 121 I can say it makes more sense than you think. Other tanks may not be as good as say a 430U however they have different roles they fill while the 121 is trying to fill the same role as the 430U. Pretty much the same with 121b

440 alpha speciality of the 121 had been sacrificed when WG decided to introduce the Russian 430U line. I remember I spent months to reach T-34-2 and then WG added in the Obj. 430U, which is in my opinion a flat out better tank

I got the 121B and it is really really good. Feels like a middle between the 121 (terrible tank and not novel at all, thanks to the 430U) and 430U (overpowered tank). The hull armor is trollish and the turret actually much stronger than it appears on paper. You can't really hit things on the move though and the tank feels best suited as a midrange support due to the great accuracy. But overall, it is just a fun tank that forgives many mistakes unlike the M60 which is difficult to play and made from paper. With the M60 you are likely to have either amazing games or you die rather quickly. With the 121B it is more balanced.

David I feel exactly the same about it. The 121B just looks so much more comfortable to play because of its lower profile (than the m60) and its armor. I am a decent player but tier 10 is just not really my thing, but with the 121B I just tend to have good and fun games with mostly 1.5k blocked per game

The 121B is essentially a T62A with a 105mm gun. Specifically the gun handles very similar to the 105mm of the Centurion AX. Thus if one considers the 121 the chinese counterpart to the Object 430U, then the 121B could be considered the chinese counterpart to the T62A/Object 140.

I got a special attachment to the Type 59 family tree, so when I was deciding between M60 and 121B for my reward tank, I definitely chose the tier 10 Type 59 with a British 105mm-L7, but I can tell you, 121B is really hard to play, it is more like a tier 9 medium tank with 300 more hit points

while historicalism in WoT went out of the window a long time ago, certain stats still do reflect realism to some extent, what i mean by that is the 121 is basically the type 69, the 121b is the type69-II with the chinese clone of the British L7 105mm with much simpler fire and control system then what western tanks such as the m60 used with their own lisenced produced L7 105mm, this simpler FCS is reflected in the game by worse stats then the m60 despite having the same gun.

68 mm penetration though. At tier 10 that’s surprisingly good. But to be a viable asset it needs to be at least 90-100 mm of pen imho. Most 105 mm HESH at 90 mm pen has not proven to be that effective. Heck, I even dislike the premium HESH on the Centurion 7/1. It has some perks but I feel the APCR is far more reliable against any target.

But these two should not really be compared since the 121B has more of a close to mid brawler role where the AX is more of a mid range hulldown tank. Either way. Both of them do really well when allowed to fire HESH at light tanks and the cupolas of had to crack hulldown tanks.

I feel this thing is the truest representation of a t54 at tier 10. Middle of the road alpha with good armor against lower tiers and a good premium round. But you also have top of the line vision and great hesh rounds with decent pen and reliable accuracy. Also the line up to the 121 is garbage to actually grind up and being able to skip the grind is optimal. Also this tank is gonna be quite rare with a lot of people saving their bonds for the 907 if it comes out.

I always wanted 121B and T95E6, because of their uniqueness. When I first saw 121B on test in bond shop I hoped it will also come to game so I can finally get it, because getting it via CW campaign would be waste of time and effort when there are far supperior options. So I picked it immediately when I got 15k bond and I do not regret any spent bond on it. I love playing it. Especially when you try max out that view range.

@Aquila audax I do not see gun as problem too. I used to play STB-1 before buff and I liked to play it even if players said it's gun was garbage but I make it work for me. I play 121B with v-stab, rammer and optics and I do not plan to change it because of that sweet spot range that allow you to spot anything that dares to shoot while it is in your sight. Meanwhile I do not plan to buy M60 because I have Leopard 1 and M60 is really ugly tank. I hope they plan to add T95E6 to bond shop as well.

I pretty like this vehicle. I picked it as CW reward, it's not most competetive tank, but it's pretty solid performer, I like 390 alfa damage more then 320 on russian medium tanks. If you want something, that is pretty flexible, with decent armor and good alpha damage I think it's good pickup.

i think youre looking at the 121B as the kind of tank that should be an expert in the medium tank role like the other russian meds instead of something in its own class... ive been wanting to get my hands on the 121B for years, simply because its a very adaptable jack of all trades. by trading that 122mm gun for the well proven 105mm L7 with APCR, HEAT, AND HESH rounds, along with the excellent soviet armour layout, mobility and low profile compared to its equal tier counterparts, and the amazing 420m view range, you have a tank that is excellent at getting the job done. the gun depression is a great weakness but thats the trade-off to get the low silhouette and thick armour. so baring all that in mind, having a slightly higher aim bloom and poor gun depression are the balancing factors to prevent the 121B from being completely OP. also regarding the turret armour, i wouldnt be too worried if i sat in front of a lot of other tier 10s spamming gold as all it takes is some shifting back and fore at distance and you become a very difficult target to actually hit in the right places.... the Obj.430U which is supposed to have great turret armour, well i pen them easy peasy with HEAT rounds at point blank range, but as soon as they get some distance, or they shift around, its much harder to pen that turret with HEAT. if im completely honest, you should look at how armour works more situationally, rather than just the flat stats that are presented to you. heck i even think the AMX 30B has some armour to work with if you know how penetration mechanics vs gun caliber over distance works

Idea for your next showcase, you already did the entire french medium tank line, how about finishing the other branches from the B-C 12T that split off to the AMX 13 105 and AMX 30B. I'm almost at the B-C 12T and originally all I wanted there the auto-loading mediums but wondering if I should invest the extra time to unlock the other branches. Got to recommend M60 over 121B, at least for my play-style it works much better. But I would honestly recommend saving bonds for Obj.907 or Chieftain (the tier 10 one, tier 8 is OKayish) if those ever come out like that cause those things are actually better in some ways than regular tree tanks.

Do you have the old version of the tank? My crosshair doesnt bloom that much and the dpm is btw higher then the m60. Two more points, the HESH and the camo. With crewskills this tank has 30 percent camo and 23 percent while moving, combined with the viewrange it is nice. Another point, you compare the 121b on a shitty map for this tank against full t10 setup with m60 on a good map for the tank against t8. Play the m60 against full t10 and lets see if you can get the same result.

I picked up a 121B over the M60. Why? Because i already have the patton, and i just started the chinese med line so i needed a crew trainer. M60 might be a better tank, but im not after bang for the buck deal, i will never have 279e, chieftain, 907... anyway. I dont see a scenario where i would play M60 tank over patton, stb1 or leo that i have in my garage, and to be honest im probably not gonna play 121B much either after i train my crew. Also i think more people are gonna go for M60, so that makes 121B more valuable in my eyes. I am the type of person that likes getting 3k damage in the indien panzer more than getting 5k in a defender. The thing is 3 years ago I would have picked the M60 and it would be 100 percent the right choice, so for people like that, I recommend M60, and for people that are not collectors, but have better tanks to play, dont let stats make your decision, pick whatever you feel. You might end up getting both later anyway.
