World Of Warplanes - B-17G Gameplay (Specialist Hell)

Yesterday I was trying to get a good match on the B-17G, when I suddenly saw one of the scariest sights ever. Almost all the enemy planes were specialized, while a handful of ours were. Luckily enough, thanks to the plane I picked I could opt to simply ignore them and watch from afar, and thank goodness too because those specialist devoured our bots like a swarm of locust.

@@marijataradi6659 - The battles are never the same. That's like saying chess is boring because the board and pieces are always the same, or baseball, football, soccer, basketball, etc., are boring because the field or court is always the same. World of Warplanes is a great game.

Heavies are designed to counter bombers. The US bombers have debatably the best defenses against them, and even those don't last long.

Why not blast them back? They don't come out of nowhere. Watch the Minimap and it will rectify that problem.

@@ChaoticDude049 - Climb. Altitude is your friend. Bombers can reach altitudes other planes can not and that is a great defense. :) Rockets are extremely inaccurate and rarely ever hit an airplane if someone tries that. Rockets are for ground targets.

what is your computer configuration? the game is very poorly optimized, my computer feels a loss of performance and crashes

I can't remember exactly, but it is a moderately old laptop. I believe it had an Nvidia 970M, i7, 1TB HDD, and 16 Gig RAM? The game will run iffy anyways. Best case scenario you will have a somewhat stable 60fps, worse case scenario you might have to turn everything down a notch.

The B-17G's rearguns are not bad by themselves. On top of that, you can angle the plane to get several rearguns firing at a single target at the same time, doubling or tripling the damage dealt. Something that the later US Bombers double-down on.

Camouflage paint adds +20% to concealment, +10% tolerance to damage from anti-aircraft guns and +5% tolerance to damage from gunners. Why would you not want all those big benefits for your B-17G?

Realistically, only the AA resistance would be majorly beneficial to the B-17G. But in general I just always bought one skin for the aircraft and called it a day. It's not like I was playing them in a competitive scenario anyways, so skipping out on some things didn't really affect my experience.

@@LMG3864 - +20% concealment is beneficial to any plane, as are the other benefits camouflage paint provides. Winning pays out 2-3 *times* more silver and XP than for a loss, so camouflage paint pays for itself and then some. It's an investment, not an expense. There is no benefit in not using camouflage paint.

Do you always play your high altitude bombers that low? It just seems like you are taking an unnecessary risk. AA is no less of a risk at that altitude, and you have the additional threat of the fact that even the lowest max altitude same-tier heavy fighters can reach you easily to contend with as well.

The problem with flying too high is that my bombs become less reliable, which in turn makes me less efficient at actually getting caps. Unlike with GAAs, I have no control over where the bombs will land, which is also why I don't really fly many bombers in the first place. However, unlike the other tier 6 Bombers, the B-17G has enough defensive firepower to justify flying within reach of more enemies. Light fighters can't stay close for long, and even heavies can struggle to take me down.

@@LMG3864 - Flying at low altitudes puts your bomber at greater risk than flying at higher altitudes because the anti-aircraft guns are more accurate the lower a plane flies. Bombs don't become less effective dropped from higher altitudes, but they can become less accurate. But with the B-17 being a carpet bomber and dropping bombs in clusters, this is really not an issue. I can drop bombs from my B-17 at 10,000+ feet and still hit ground targets just fine, while enemy fighter planes can not even reach my B-17. :)

@@HiTechOilCo Bomb accuracy does actually matter a lot with the B-17s because they only have 8 bombs per string, and two strings in total. You have to make each string count. It is hard enough to connect two ground targets with only 8 bombs. If they spread out too much and leave a single building alive, you have to waste a whole string to clear it out, or find another target altogether. B-17s don't exactly like changing targets. From the B-32 onwards it truly doesn't matter as much since it drops 20 bombs per string. You can cross an entire sector before running out of bombs.
