World of Warships Blitz - French cruiser "Algérie" review

I've had a lot of BBs recently, so it's time to get back to my favourite class, the cruisers. Today, we're checking out the first French heavy cruiser in the tech tree, the Algérie.

It's not just the armour. This doesn't happen with other cruisers, but she gets blapped frequently. I'm suspecting at this point that citadel positioning is actually part of the armour layout, and that her citadel is insanely high up. That would be consistent with PC, too. Her armour holds up pretty well against 150mm, but anything beyond that, you're in trouble. That's why I do tend to run away in this ship, a lot. (Insert meme at your discretion)

I actually unlocked her last month, and from playing around with her I noticed she’s definitely NOT the La Galissonière! However I do like having her because she was a one of a kind ship, and she was one of the last conventional French cruisers to actually be completed.

I don't know if I have ever hated a ship while loving it at the same time as much as this thing... And those battle honours are painful...

You got to really watch your angles in this thing, or BBs will just outright delete you. She takes some getting used to after the excellent tier 6 lights, but it's the same with the German line, Yorck is a quirky black sheep, and with Hipper we're back on track. That's not to say Yorck is bad, she's just very different.

Great video! The Algerie is a really difficult cruiser to play since she gets clapped hard if she's hit with AP. In bottom tiered situations, it hurts like hell when: 1. Shokaku starts targeting you 2. Roma/Richelieu start hitting at you 3. Everyone targets you for whatever reason So that probably explains why very few Henri 4 seen at t10 because very few players like it.

I’ve heard that the St. Louis at tier nine is absolutely atrocious, perhaps some of them give up the grind for the Henri there.

I got Charles Martel from a crate a while back and that was a learning curve. Just enough armor to activate AP shells but at least you can bow tank a little bit. Better turret arrangement than Algerie. It also doesn't hurt that your teammates actually responded to your directions. Usually mine don't and we get clobbered.

Thanks Terry French cruisers are underrated in terms of being 'fun' to play IMO. Its almost impossible to not play them positively - its live fast and die hard (or hopefully not at all) Speaking of cruisers have you ever reviewed Hindenburg? I'm in love with the ship but established players/experts don't rate her much

Speed, range and excellent guns. They can be almost as frustrating like the Soviet CLs if played correctly. Where I struggle a bit are static maps, like centre cap, since they're difficult to use in DD defence in that environment. Also, I'm always a bit biased towards cruisers, since that's my main class. I'm still playing the Roon, have maybe 200k XP to go till Hindi. But she's going to be my fourth tier 10, after Mino, DM & Curry.

My opinion is that the French cruisers have been made redundant by the Italian ones and their only use could be fire starting but even then other lines (e.g. United States light cruisers) are much more better than/ more efficient than the French cruisers at playing that role

With the Martel I use he ammo at mid long range good fire starter... But not played the Algerie..cause I switched to de Martel directly..interesting review maybe tomorrow I ll try this one... No algerieberg lol...

I tend not to skip over tiers, but if the guns are similar, I'm already looking forward to it. Standard "cruiser rules", AP against DDs at long range and CLs at short-mid, HE otherwise. Technically, you could use AP against BBs at close range, but you probably don't want to be there in the first place :)

A very different play style from the La Galissonniere, in general the ship is good, a little bit more armor to have is pleasant but the gun arrangement is meh...pretty much like the tier 3 or 4 I am really looking for the tier 8. Nonetheless I quite like the ship occasionally get some citadel in other cruisers and torp strikes but facing a Cleveland or Brooklyn isn’t very healthy for the ship xD

Let’s do the math 4 citadels. Each citadel does 4 thousand damage. 4 x 4 equals 16 thousand damage. Then you have to consider the previous damage. Adding that all up you get a dead French crusier.

⏰⏳🕰️ 😑 Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock(rinse & repeat tick-tocking from now til Alsace review is released)!....😁 ^This Algerie review is helpful, because I'm considering repurchasing the Algerie after selling it 10 months ago with very few games played. Although I'm painfully LOW on purple blueprints, and still have a few T7-T8 ships not yet fully upgraded....

Blueprints are an issue for me as well. I've probably got enough for one tier 10, so Hindenburg is the next target. I'm playing the French cruisers occasionally, but not super frequently :)
