Dynamic Crosshair has been in the game for a while, I waited a while before even trying it out. Now I feel confident to share my tips to using the Dynamic Crosshair. The game in the background is the Konig on Fault Line, we aim at all sorts of targets with different angles and distances. Hope the explanation helps you out and have a wonderful day!

I'm no expert but I gathered some useful tips from observing my team mates. First, NEVER zoom out. Stay zoomed in and clicking mouse at all times. Next, never have awareness or observe the minimap. Stay close to your team mates; and if you run into them or shoot them (even tho they tryen to doge) blame them.

Good deal bud. Thanks for making this! ETA: After seeing this I am realizing that the "static" crosshair is essentially a SFP (second focal plane) type reticle. The dynamic is what is known as a FFP or first focal plane. This is how high powered rifle scopes work.

If anyone here is interested, I made a video on World of Warships aiming, explaining the method I use and why I don't think the tick marks are, or could even be, calibrated for a particular speed. Fair warning: compared to Notser, I'm not a particularly good Warships player. Actually, I'm not particularly good compared to most players, but I did figure out a way to aim at distant targets that may help others. You can check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fp-3Y6p6l8h2la8

Thank you for sharing hints and tips. I am a subscriber and have paid close attention to the advice your videos give. It has really helped me a lot. I presently have 4,282 battles with a win rate of 53%. Total number of enemy ships destroyed is 4,246. I mostly play IJN DD's and US Cruisers. But I am finally getting on the BB bandwagon with the release of the German battleships. Keep up the good work and thank you for your time.

Notser, I've been using the dynamic crosshair since it came out. I think the scales are as such: Cruiser = x1 +/- 0.2 depending on the type; IJN CA/CLs are faster so you add 1-2s extra for longer ranges (even 3s for some cases) Battleship = x0.5 or x0.6 ; except for the faster ones like Kongo, Iowa, NC and the other BBs you mentioned earlier. Destroyer = x2 or greater; for faster DDs like the Russkies you have to add 1-2 extra seconds for lead time. For example, whenever shell ETA is 4 seconds, I actually lead 10s ahead of the bow to land hits; 12s for 5s ETA and so on. It's the aiming system that's been working for me, just try it out if you can. I play cruisers and my average main battey accuracy is 36%% (even my 155mm Mogami has an accuracy of 33%). But then again, shell dynamics may differ from ship to ship so it might not work well for other players.

Thank you. I've been failing with dynamic for a while now, mainly cos I didn't know about the 30 knot correlation (I was using 20) and was looking for a simple scaling method based on ship class.

I came about the same results as you. Not saying I did all the math like you but with trial and error scaling of shot placement yea, came to the same percentages. i.e. DD going full across the horizon i'll usually lead to about the 10th-14th horizon marker with a 5+sec flight time. I figured it all out shortly after Beta ended and it's worked fine since..

this video changed my life.... thanks! I have been using static and just eyeing it based on distance. I got instinctual in aiming but was left wanting...couldn't make consistent high damage and would screw up some easy shots. after watching this video a couple times and working on aiming this way with dynamic this morning....I'm like unicum now! well not really but my average damage is up by like 100%! I just took on two ull health fuso in my tirpitz and won with a 150k damage game. lots more cits.thanks again! ichase's video just confused me.

after 400 games with benson i imagine fligh trajectory of shells based of distance from the ship. as for other ships, i imagine 2 lines at an angle, one line is aligned with enemy ship, other one is where my marker should be, and place where imaginary line and marker cross is where i shoot

Dear Notser: THANK YOU YET AGAIN! You are awesome! I have TRIED the dynamic cross hair several times, but I just COULD NOT figure out what it was scaling to dynamically - so I stuck with what I do know. Now though, I think the Dynamic cross hair will be a MASSIVE Help! Especially in ships like my Atlanta, Sims, and Mahan - as I often fire at LOW zoom in them so I can actually see my shells as well as the target, the problem with that is I basically have to GUESS how much to lead until I get used to it, and that often makes me take too long trying to get a good bead on my target - as I zoom in fully to set my lead, then zoom back out to be able to see my target and shells in the same frame. And even for the ships with faster shell travel and flatter arcs, this will likely still make me far more accurate! Because static is really kinda stupid... I mean WHY scale it to just 20 knots, WHY scale that to gigantic BATTLESHIPS? They are, by far, THE EASIEST TARGETS TO HIT WITHOUT ANY CROSSHAIR! I mean if they had scaled it to 25 knots and something about the size of a Cleveland, it would be a much better setup.. Still Dynamic is the best - provided you know what it scales to! And that is another thing: WHY WG? WHY didn't you simply write a little description of what each cross hair scales to in the "Select Crosshair" section? I mean it is REALLY STUPID that one has to either search Google or wait for a video like this to EXPLAIN A FRIGGING CROSSHAIR! On a similar note, I am STILL WAITING FOR ARMOR VIEWER!

I like how the Minimap mod shows directional arrows for the target selected, it makes life SO MUCH EASIER! And it is not "Extra Information" so much as easier to see information. Instead of staring closely at a target's icon on the Minimap all you need is a quick glance and you can see which direction they are facing, and if they are turning.

It seem each point in dynamic is about 30~33 meter in full zoom, but some data in this gam maybe wrong, shell with vlocity About 700~900 meter in second, time for travel distance about 12000 meter is about: ~14 second. (12000m / 850m = 14s) But in the gams show always 5.2 , 5.5 , 5.75, why? and vertical i cannt calculate, some time, each point about 500 meter, some Time each line in each Point is about 800~1000 meter, so if you claculate speed of ships, The result is: Each One KN/Hour is about 0.51444 meter in second (1 KN/h= 0.5144 m/s) so the ship speed when is about 40 KN/h, It can tarvel about 20.577( 20KN/h=20.577 m/s ) . And in dynamic crosshair, eachpoint in full zoom about 30~33 meter, and if the time need for shell till reach taget when show 5.75 sec, it mean that ship in 5.75 can Walking distance about 118.2 meter (5.75 s * 20.577 m/s =118.2). And when we use this result, we should point the crosshair about 3.7 NOT 5 or 6 or 10. (118.2m / 31.5= 3.7). but we see when you track Destroyer you put crosshair to 9 or 10 and even you cannt hit and shell go Behind of dd, its mean : 1: the DD speed is much more than 40 KN/s or 20.577 M/s or 2: our guess about each point size is not about 30~33 meter or 3: speed of the ship (BB,DD,CA,CL) is wrong and they go faster than we see in the game for example the DD in 35KN. May be real speed of her in game is about 60~80KN. Hear the convert of the speed in KN/h and convert to meter in second: 5 KN/h=2.572 M/S 10 KN/h=5.144 M/S 15 KN/h=7.716 M/S 20 KN/h=10.288M/S 25 KN/h=12.861M/S 30 KN/h=15.433M/S 35 KN/h=18.005M/S 40 KN/h=20.577M/S I had too many many calculate for my own and even i have calculated include the angel of target in any speed and any distance very long time ago i'm in military service in Heavy Mountain Artillery 240mm watcher team (88th Armored Division) and we could target in Tank size target i over tan 20Km away and our team fire in blended and just trust to our data, and we target man, many many tank group which they separate formation about 40~70 m^2 I guess in Navy and with too expensive BBs or or Heavy Cruiser they are very very very accurate fire on surface target than us in ground army so if you want my Data i can email you and i have too many idea that can make this lovely game much more better, of course if you want.. thanks for nice clip you made it. One mod that REALLY helps at times: Running Lights! It let's you know whether a target has cutengine power to stop, shows when a target has put throttle in full reverse, and lets you know if and when a target starts moving forward again. Of course it DOES NOT give you current speed, and there are only 3 colors: Purple = reverse throttle (even if target is still moving forward while waiting to slow to reverse) Red = engine at stop, Green = forward throttle (of any amount) From there you just need to look at the smoke stacks and guess how fast they are moving in whatever direction. Still doesn't give you as much information as the torpedo launch predictor for ships that have torpedoes, but it is a big help at times!

I'm so used to leading with the static crosshairs that it'd be pretty hard for me to adjust I think. Enemy destroyer moving at full speed horizontally to me is a dead easy shot for me even at max range with the static crosshairs if they're not manoeuvring and it's hard to imagine myself being able to quickly make fire control decisions on the fly with a dynamic crosshair. I'm still going to give it a go but I'm skeptical. I guess one way it's improved over the static one is if you're in a group of ships with drastically different shell velocities it's easier to give each other firing solutions.

Does the dynamic crosshair scale correctly with screen resolution? I run at 2560x1440 and with the static crosshair, I always felt like I had to give an extra 1-2 ticks for a lot of my shots over where I would expect to need to shoot which I always assumed was the UI not scaling properly to the extra screen resolution. If dynamic doesn't have that flaw then I'd definitely want to swap.

Gonna try using the time to target.. i have always been using distance to target. Figured out that Shooting a DD at full speed is one on one aka 6km = 6 points or 15 = 15 basicly. cruisers usualy half the distance 10km = 5 BB's (slow) a third to a quarter 10km would end up with 3 points. Not a very accurate way, but worked well for me in lower tiers.. (below tier 7) But it has become more of a feeling thing tough lol

Stopwatch was mentioned somewhere, but anyone who scratched his head about points on corsair could find many explanations (no idea why wg don't explain it to new players). My big beef with the dynamic crosshair (and the reason I still don't use it) is because they changed the scaling from 20 knots to 30 knots. All the static ones are set to 20 and after spending months on it, practically to the point of muscle memory, it's really hard to suddenly change to 30 knots on a single crosshair. I personally wish there was a setting where you could set the scale yourself :/

I prefer static tbh and aiming by the gut, I used to play a lot of bf3 and bf4 as a tank driver sniping jets and choppers out of the sky with main gun, so i guess all that practice really paid off. I prefer to zoom all the way out in 3d view, then press shift and use the first zoom that gives you elevation off the water if you move the mouse up, that way you won't ever run out of room to lead and you aren't too zoomed in to not see things around you.

I'm sort of struggling to really understand how this is particularly helpful.... Like I use the standard cross-hair and all I really need to know is the enemy ships max speed, time to target, the movements they've made, and the calibre I'm firing (lighter shells do seem to slow down quicker in game; as they should). Maybe it's just because I'm so used to the standard one.

SheepWaveMeByeBye Well it could just be me, but when I fire at a ship going 30 knots 10 seconds away with the 15 inch guns on the warspite I aim around the 15/12 tick mark, whereas when firing at the same target with the guns on the nurnberg I aim more like over 15 (if memory serves me well).

A lot of it is just time man. There are so many different ships, going so many different speeds at so many different angles and there are so many different guns with so many different shell velocities. A large part of getting good aim is practice and instinct. Fire a lot of shells, adjust your aim when you miss and fire again. Its one of the things I like about WoWs, the core mechanic of dealing damage is a finesse skill.

If i have 4-6 turrets and when im fire them one by one i'll adjust each turret a bit,not easy all the time but you do more hits though. But it works best at long range and no other threats close to you, otherwise im firing them all. Fun to experiment with it.

Can you maybe give some tips on how to kill an enemy ship by setting it on fire rather than with direct damage? I'm trying to get the arsonist achievement for a campaign mission, but what always happens is the fire goes out and I end up killing my target with direct damage by trying to set them on fire again, or someone else takes the kill before my fire can kill them. It's extremely frustrating.

I have noticed that the crosshair seems to scale the estimated km needed to aim at to the ship you are targeting. I don't think it used to do this, but I notice it now. Aiming at American BB's, shooting at the estimated distance of the ship away (say the ship is 16.2 km away, aim at ~16.2 km away and it will hit.) the same is true for shooting at IJN Cruisers and other ships. It seems to scale, at least while they are broadsiding, even if they are not going full speed. Can you prove or disprove this?.

So with the time information, you can use the tick marks on the crosshair at a scale of 30 knots. If the ship is faster then 30 knots then you would need to times it by more then 1, if it is less then you would times it by less than 1. The number would change in scale from something like .5 to maybe 1.5, all depends on the enemy ship and their speed

The one thing I have with the dynamic crosshair is that not all numbers are written in the scale, I find it more annoying to go 2 right of 5 than just doing the mental math and find 7 on the scale. That being said, this vid still leaves me a couple questions. Are we still placing those tickmarks on the bow, or imaginary bow, of the targeted ships? I assumo so, since you shot the Cleveland @4:56 with the 5 tick about on her bow when the time to target was about 5.10s, you did however say you gave her a bit more lead, so that left me a bit confused on what you were doing there. When you shot the Gnevny at the beginning, @2:54, the time to target was 3.50s, and the bow of the ship was placed at about 9.5. The smoke on the Gnevny was faded, so it should have been moving at almost 40 knots, so that would be a ~33% increase to the lead time for 30kts, yet it was given almost triple. Now, I'm pretty bad at this visualizing a different size of ship when aiming, but I'd assume if it was the case you'd actually be aiming at what would be at 6.5 - 7 at that moment, which would still be almost double the time to target. How did you reach at that lead in that situation? It worked perfectly, so it's not like it was the wrong lead. As a feedback to the video, it was very chatty and entertainment as usual, but I think this kind of tutorial video would benefit more from being made in a more structured and informative way, it's a bit 'hard' to find the information this way

How (roughly) dynamic crossair could be used (as it was introduced, I switched to it immediately): it's pretty accurate on bigger ship - For BBs or "longer" cruisers sailing at 30 knots, you should allign the "tic" corresponding the flight time to their bow, and the shoot go to their "middle" (not always a citadels, as you should also adjust to find "where" you wanna land your hits) - For smaller ships (light cruisers or Dds) at 30knots, you should "add" some "tic", as the size matters (if aimed to the bow, your risk is to hit water BEHIND them) - For ships not showing a perfect broadside, you should still "guess": more (or less) elevation if is coming or going away to you, but also the different time your bullet will reach him (if incoming, the shell will fly less than predicted by the game, if going away a little more) - mental calculation about actual velocity, to adjust the "tic" if they are going slower (20 knots: 67% of the predicted flight time... 10 knots = 33% of depicted second of flight time and so on...) The main point for a good shot is not only knowing your ship, but also the enemy one (size, speed, predicted motion) to have the best lead possible. Specifically for destroyer, I add the rules abot 1.5/2 time the second of flight predictions (it depends on nations) because they are the smallest, so you should add already some more than the 33% more (40/30 = 1.33... but only if they were "battleship sized", so basically you wanna aim and then hit at the same spot you are guessing, rather than the bow, giving how small they are) For 20knots max enemies (always supposing their are sailing at MAX), I basically remove the idea of "aim the bow" and then use the "tic" corresponding to the flight path as the point were the shell will hit (not always accurate, but good as first guestimation on the first shot) For close range (around from 7 to 5 km, it depends on the ship I'm sailing) all the guess about "tic" and "seconds" could be forgotten: it's more important know the balistic of your cannons, and also there are pretty different impact point if you are shooting with forward or back guns What I like with the dynamic crossair is that if I have a solid perception of were the shell will land (aiming shots done or any situation where "you know" it) I could change the magnification of the zoom leaving on the spot the corresponding "tic" for the next shot, as a solid reference...

Notser, there is not only 1 static crosshair. There are (i think) 6 in total, scaling 10/15/20 and in black or white.

Not sure if you still want to know this- but the smoke is the best tell. If there is no smoke, the target is stationary... if there's just smoke but it's barely going further aft than the stack itself then it's 1/4 speed... if it's about halfway to the stern it's 1/2 speed... ALMOST all the way to the stern or about the aft turret it's 3/4 speed and at or past the stern it's flank. Dark smoke means speed boost... A little awareness on average ship max speeds will be beneficial...

I don't know, my hit ratio is consistently well above average with the same standard crosshair I've always used. It's second nature now and worries me to try and change it. Seems like this is more of an aid to people who have trouble judging their targets and gun arcs.

Hi, Notser. About the Alternative Battle Interface not being on by default, I think it is something like your dislike for the more 'fancy' static crosshairs. It really clutters the screen for people that play on less powerful computers and with smaller monitors. That's what I experienced anyway.

***** I free exp'd all the mods off the bat. It still sucks in my opinion. The speed is awful, especially on large maps it sees, the armor is mediocre at best and the guns, while good are hardly auto-win like a Yamato, so the ship really has nothing going for it

***** 29 battles over a week or so. averaging 62k dmg and 1.5 k/d ratio. but my win rate is 37%. While some of that is out of my control the inability of the Colorado to redeploy means you can only fight on 1 flank, win or lose, and hope your team wins on the other. And yeah. Compared to the Scharnhorst...its hilarious.
