I think a VERY important issue that you did not highlight is starting around 6:45 mark is that when the counter of ships aiming at you went to 4 or more you did not leave the island. Just moved a little and knew that the ships aiming at you could not lob over the island.

Thank you very much for creating this video. This is a new ship for me, and I was lamenting on the Forum that there was no good "How to" video for this ship. Viola, here it is! A couple of questions: 1) starting at 4:37 are you suggesting that we take the Mk9 mod. 1 and NOT the Mk9 mod.2 Gun Fire control system? I kinda see the logic in Random play, but not sure about it in other types of play. 2) If that is the case, does that also mean that we shouldn't run AFT as a captain's skill as well? The mod. 1 and no AFT will make her a very short-ranged cruiser at her Tier.

AFT doesnt work on 203 mm. Only on 139 mm and less

Enough experience is half the success man, if you know from experience when the right time to strike is, then you will do good. But don´t be afraid to take your chances, without mistakes you can´t learn. Also helps if you play all kinds of other classes, so you can guess their general mindset in certain situations. A Practical advice i can give you is, you can stick your nose out far enough to hit ships without getting spotted in return. You can look up the spotting mechanics and the criteria in the wiki, it takes into account the length and height of your ship at the most extreme points, but the gist of it is. Just the tip and you´re good. I had a lot of fun with the WHOLE line, since the Pensa is at T6 now shes also on par with the strength of pretty much every other heavy cruiser in the line. There's lots of us 'knuckleheads' out here Josh. I've only been playing WoWs since Closed Beta testing and still have lots to learn, unlearn and learn again. IChase and Jingles are my favorite goto guys for hints and information.

@iChaseGaming nice guide, what I struggle with and it's missing from your tutorials is line of sight.... I have trouble with using islands as there is always someone spotting me, even though I think island should have me covered. Could you make a tutorial in regards to islands and LoS?

Great video as always! I always had used her at a Cruiser hunter, And she worked well there. Though i suppose since I played threw it more super cruisers like Alaska came out and have to an extent taken that role from her when they are present.

Alaska is definitely a little bit better as a cruiser hunter (and in some ways more effective against battleships), but Buffalo is definitely better at hunting destroyers, and unless the Alaska/large cruiser player really knows what he’s doing, you can actually engage them and win assuming equal player skill. I love both my Alaska and Buffalo, but even when there are other large cruisers present there are some cruiser hunter roles that Balti/Buffalo just fill better.

When I first unlocked the pensicola, I got 2 kills in my first game and 4 in my second by accidentally playing like this. The next few hours of sleep deprivation and fatigue lead to a terrible experience (but free premium time got me the New Orleans in the same day) This stuff works way too well

I have some problems with new Orleans, although similar like pepsi, I'm not familiar with high tier match making and get punished even when angled, which makes it more frustrating than Pensacola. Pls help

Agh I’m like 3 mil credits away from Buffalo! I loved my Baltimore and from what I’m seeing the Buffalo fixes my main issue with Baltimore being the lack of a heal. Can’t wait to finally get her up and running!

The firepower is great, though the extra turret at the back sometimes tempts me to be a bit too careless. The range on the other hand is a bit lacking, unless one takes the module.

landochabod7 Hmmm. My main love of Baltimore was the front armor and forward turrets. I’ll probably do the same with Buffalo and only use those back turrets when brawling other Cruisers or kiting. Or if I can just find an island. But I don’t really like that play style too much.

I am still in the Pensacola. That ship is so bad I cannot bring myself to play anything but the game with the win bonus. But I do wanna get to the New Orleans and onward. The Baltimore especially seems like a great ship, and T9 and 10 of course even better. So I'll have to grit my teeth, I guess.

thanks for the video. Like some others said, would you mind doing this for several other nations/lines/classes? You spelled it out and wrote the instructions in crayon.....right at my level of learning. This was helpful. I'm not a good player but at the moment trying to expand on the various classes so, I am not stuck in a single class but, Russian DDs.... I can not seem to get the hang of them. Well most DDs but the Russian DD play style eludes me. Completely.

I got the Baltimore a long time ago and I was just getting to know it better when the British cruisers arrived. Poor old Baltimore is now rusting in port in company with the Yorch and the Zao as I'm completing the research bureau re-grind of the British line and thoroughly enjoying every minute of it. Italian cruisers are crap, Zao's boring AF and as I'm sinking US cruisers by the dozen every day with my Neptune I'm not too keen to take Baltimore out again anytime soon.

Tough luck. The Omaha, like most tier V cruisers, is practically made of citadels. BBs *will* citadel you if you get hit anywhere that isn't the extreme ends of the ship. And they can penetrate through the front (and rear) if you're straight towards or away from them. There's really nothing you can do apart from running away if they decide to shoot you. The best advice I can give is to stay away from the front line. Keep at least one other cruiser or battleship in front of you when possible, and forget about using torpedos unless you come across an enemy at close range. Hopefully, they'll shoot whoever's closer. Good luck with the grind. Sad to say the Pensacola and Dallas aren't really much better on survivability. But at least they have good guns.

the gameplay works only if there is no CV around. Your defensive position will always get exposed by CV plane and then that's where all the surrounding enemy will fire on your position, making you a sitting duck. Then you are forced to move because of CV's plane spot. Just a plain nightmare, playing a CV-based map. Especially with the recent introduction of hybrid BB + CV, staying and firing is no longer good gameplay.

Ibuki is very agile and can shoot from longer distances with high accuracy. It plays differently

Ibuki is more comfortable in long range engagements with the significantly flatter shell arcs and better dispersion, plus Ibuki (and really the entire line of 203mm cruisers) is much better at kiting and setting stuff on fire. The USN CA line is more a second line support tree that can push aggressively and effectively hunt cruisers, destroyers, and even tear up battleships with the right positioning, while the IJN line is more geared to hunting down isolated targets and chewing them up with a higher HE alpha strike potential, and then kiting away on a flank dumping torpedoes.

Yeah, that all make sense, maybe it's like flamu said in an old video, is annoying to play against and to play with at the same time, keeping in mind that you're punished specially hard when hit with ap and don't have the armor or smoke to disengage (I guess the decent concealment and not so bad speed can work idk), but the hard hitting he and the extreme potential to be a pain for the battleships sure is worth it, even tho the zao takes it to another level, evolving from annoying to scary... man, how much I want the zao :(

since its more stealthy I play aggresive with my dd and sink the enemy dd with radar or dd spotting, sure I take 10-12k damage and I can repair that after disengaging. Also seattle has 50mm lower deck(aftside) bounces every caliber nonplunging ap if used properly

udaloy is priorly a dd support, use ur speed when starting to engage, you have to know enemy dds advantages to decide hunting or avoiding them. Take advantage of repair consumables for aggresive play, lastly udaloy is very manueverable dd you can juke or dodge the shells-torps much better than other soviet high tier dds

tldw: avoid getting nuked by big gun BBs. Know when to switch ammo. And brutalize enemies in between. Practically the same way you play a Baltimore, just with a bit more broadside alpha.

I hate these videos in which are endlessly repeated: "Kinda have to position carefully. Choose your targets well. Be careful." No fucking shit. Name a ship which is excused from these bromides! Get to the point. Affirm something. How about this: Buffalo sucks! That is what should be said here. It is a pensacola in a tier 10 environment. It is only productive if it is uptiered. It has slow reload for a radar ship (compared to the ever present DesMoines). It steers badly. Its turret traverse is slow. It has good AP, but cannot get into the open to exploit it. It is completely wrecked by popular tier IX BBs (Musashi Georgia etc). Spend the first ten minutes hiding for your life, and the next minute dying = the lifecycle of Buffalo in Ranked.
