Episode 9 of Know Your Ship! In this educational video I cover the Fletcher class destroyers commissioned by the United States Navy during World War 2. The Fletcher class destroyers served with distinction in the Pacific Campaign of World War 2. One of the most famous ships of this class was the USS Johnston, part of Taffy 3, captained by Commander Ernest E. Evans during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Admirals, get to know these versatile destroyers of the United States Navy before taking command of them in World of Warships! Enjoy and see you all in battle!

Kamikaze? Both sides did it, for Different reasons, maybe, but if you're going to die anyway, you might as well take as many of them with you as you can. They would die for their Emperor, we would die for those we fought beside. The same thing, just a reflection of Different cultures. War brings out both the Worst and Best of people, Strange isn't it?

LMAO! I've been a naval historian buff for most of my 50 years…but I never knew about the great potato war of 1943! Though war is not pretty, sometimes it sprouts some pretty cool stories.

Spent several overnight trips on the USS Kidd (DD-661) in Baton Rouge as a Boy Scout..... fine vessel. My grandpa served on the USS Halsey Powell (DD-686). We used to play hide and seek on it....or spin the AAA guns at planes flying nearby. Fun times.

iChaseGaming it's definitely something amazing to actually do..seeing this in video or picture is not the same as being on a warship. The USS Alabama is a prime example www.ussalabama.com/photos/ some nice inside shots of her.... you can't know how large battleships are until you're right next to it or on/in it. They are massive. So cool....

38 knots equals 40 mph on land. Admiral Arleigh Burke "wrote the book" on how to use the Destroyer starting with the Battle for Guadalcanal. Ultimately, the 275 Fletcher-class Destroyers would have a monumental effect on the battle in the Pacific during WW2. Admiral "Bull" Halsey would have 3 Fletcher Class Destroyers escort the USS Missouri to Tokyo Bay for the surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945. Arleigh Burke continued as a high-ranking officer of the US Navy, and the new, turbine-engined missile destroyers of today are named, "Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers". The smaller frigates of today are known as "Perry Class Frigates", after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry; they are the equivalent of the Destroyer Escort ships of WW2.

I'm excited for this video just paused it to do this comment I first learned of the Fletcher class with a Barren video, wasn't a fan of torpedo ships in World of Warships at first until I learned you could fire 15-30 torpedoes in under 2 minutes. 😁😁😁

I remember in reading about the British Battlecruisers that they could out run destroyers in heavy weather. When the wind was strong and the waves were high the smaller ships couldn't go as fast, but the larger ships could push through. The same should apply to any large ship.

It’s funny the these destoryers and the destoryer escorts did more than most people would think. A great example would be the Samual B Roberts nicknamed “the destroyer escort that fought like a battleship” It shows you that these ships can do more than you think. P.S Wargaming please add destoryer escorts to the game
@Metal_Auditor
@Metal_Auditor 5 жыл бұрын
What good would it do to add them to the game? They're just destroyers but with about half the size, speed, and armament. Roberts' crew had to disable some boiler safety mechanisms just to get her up to a reasonable speed for this battle.

I don't grasp why the story of Taffy 3 has never been made into a movie but the next best thing is to read Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors. Hands down this is one of the, if not THE, most remarkable naval action by any navy in history. 24:20 is an insultingly short reference to a number of cans lost to a typhoon because Halsey was a dumbass. See book Halsey's Typhoon by Mark Bowden (Black Hawk Down).

Unfortunately the search engine isn't that smart because "World of Warship game play" shows all your documentaries that are NOT what I'm looking for. It's my opinion that you had to choose a different title for your stuff so to avoid making a clone of something already existing. Your stuff is interesting but the title is misleading because it doesn't say "documentary" and people understand it only after opening the link. Think about people with slow internet connection.
