You’re lucky they didn’t charge. If they did, subs suddenly aren’t so OP. The pings are double edged sword. While they do guide your torpedos in, they also give away your position.

I agree, you can go deep and run away but I still feel people are scared of subs right now. Moving astern or parallel to the ping really does help to throw people off. Thanks for watching.

It needs to be said that this is NOT typical of the sub experience at all. The lone wolf sub thing DOESN'T work unless there is just one or two targets and must be either slow crusiers or battleships. Most ships travel together. it's rare to find one all alone. Today, everyone immediately goes after subs once they are detected, even battleships. I had one battleship who knew I was in the area close in but I couldn't disengage due to the fact that he was just circling around and around and around and around and around and around and then just send depth charge bombers over the area I couldn't break contact at all. Also, torpedoes had minimum arming distance so he was also too close for arming distance to launch torpedoes. I had just to accept that there was no getting away and I backed out until he was at the outer range of his circling and launched it all. I died but got a few hits and killed him by flooding. If this is from a BB, imagine what a destroyer/cruiser would do. Also, those curvy torpedoes don't work reliably - in testing, I've had torpedoes FAIL even on stationary targets. This means you have to fire bow in order to get a hit if you ping twice. The 90 degree angle only works if you are traveling parallel at the same heading as the target. Even if you ping a contact twice, most ships know they can wait until torpedoes are detected and then remove the ping before performing evasive maneuvers. Once your spotted, EVERYONE sends in bomber so you can by hit multiple times if you get unlucky. Normal guy offers some good tips on survivability like moving parallel while pinging to avoid bomber aircraft but it's a much harder game now for the sub as everyone will charge you.

To be honest its been month since I've made that video and the game has changed a lot for subs. Today I flank, unless a sub is attacking me I don't ping. I'm more stand off first 10 minutes and then push. I do a lot of spotting and capping as well. I can go all game now not being spotted, damage is low but I win most games that way. thankfully a lot of sub commanders dont know how to play, so they're typically easy to kill but ya, anyone who knows how to hover right outside of detection is going to be a pain

Great tip on the shooting around the island. I didn’t think about leading them that far. I know how to lead the target, I was trying move in as close as possible and hit them with the torps and knowing who was where so I had an exit to go deep. But I wasn’t leading that far I didn’t know how to lock the long ping in either. And try that round the corner shot shit and along with my get up close and tickle them. That’s next level torppen there dude.

@@normalguyofthenorth Either that, or do a middle-ground and make homing torpedoes limited ammunition per match. I think that's a good spot to have the balance on it. As it stands you can just spam them all match to great effect, it's ridiculous.

Imagine if you could aim torpedoes on the y-axis while underwater! No ping, no warning, just "SURPRISE! DEARH FROM BELOW!" Homing torpedoes are annoying, but smart players can deal with them.

Seeing as how easy it is to destroy a sub as it is paper thin, and how difficult a learning curve it is with submarines, I do not see how you can 'feel sorry' for the enemy ships. I've been playing subs no more than 5 hours total so far, and they are VERY difficult to use compared to surface ships.

Watched a sub player.... this video is wrong. The sub is easily spotted and destroyed in one salvo every game. Everyone can see the sub, and it can be targeted far outside the range of torpedos. The depth charges don't even have to be close to destroy you! Diving seems to do nothing and sonar seems useless.

To me, Personally: Hunting carriers is so difficult to do. The bombers Automatically know where you are and what direction your facing and you cant approach due to the planes. Any tips?

@@normalguyofthenorth I tried it on PT this last weekend, not much difference. Nothing done to the extremely short reload on torps and 6 seconds sonar ping, and nothing done to link anti sonar-ping to a different consumable, for slow snails like Hindi or other cruisers. Unsure why CC's take white gloves when talking about scummy WG, the subs have had the shotgun issue for 2 years (thats more than 720 days).

Type XXI did, it was faster underwater even. No other nation had anything like it. But the war was just about over by the time it was deployed, despite being built since 1943.

I just joined the game a few days ago. I got into my first sub w/ sonar and have tried most of the ship types including CV... and yeah, the mechanics of the subs are absolutely insane. I had a blast for a few matches then eventually just came to terms with the fact that I'm ruining everyone else's fun by playing it. Until people really figure out how to counter these things (which frankly I don't at all) they'll feel very unfair. Also if they simply removed homing torpedoes outright or made them limited ammunition per match, the complaints would be significantly less for sure. I agree in making them a sniping tool and a scouting tool. That's it. The homing torpedoes are braindead easy to use.

@@normalguyofthenorth Using the sonar (ping) should give away the sub's position, making it visible for 10 -12km for like 10 sec. It should be dangerous for a submarine to make noise, it breaks stealth.

Only you cherry picked the situation. It was a rather static game, where forces remained in the same area all game long. It is much harder to make a sub work if it is a dynamic game. Your team running around the map and so does the other team. Utility of subs to stop a push with multiple ships is rather limited (dd are much better at that). If your team does not manage to establish anything resembling map control, you just have no room to operate as a sub player and it is not so easy anymore. So there are many battles, where you get nothing done in a sub. Your team runs to a corner, you cannot really keep up AND do something useful. And then you are either singled out or you just sit around while your stupid team gets shots to shreds in its camping corner. Also, if your initial positioning decision turns out to be bad (e.g. your flank dies quickly), your battle impact goes to near 0 until a few minutes later you might find a new effective position. And as for those sub-dd interactions - my choice as a dd player is 100% always to rush the sub and kill it. Right away at first sign. Even if my dd gets taken out by the subs allies. If it dares to reveal itself - I killl it. It works like 95% of the time. And I survive depending on enemy team competence and how close the sub was to its allies... sometimes. But: The sub player has exactly nothing done in such a game and goes home with 80-140 xp. While I at least have the sub kill.

That situation seems to be normal in my games so far. Just hang out at the CAP and ping and torp and stay out side of airdrop ranges. A bad team is not going to win a game that is for sure however I'm averaging 3 to 4 kills per game in subs and have won over 75% give or take. I still think in the right hands there very much OP, but in a weak player ya there dead in short order. The one thing I have done a few times when I have a bad team especially several games now in a Standard battle and especially with no CV is just run to the enemy cap and win...lol Thanks for watching.

That was the state of subs 10 months ago and for the record curving torps and harassing DD's was pretty OP back then. Also in that last game with 4 kills and 57K damage. That put me well above the average 0.5 kills per game as well the damage level is Super Unicom with that boat that had a average win rate of 51% and I was over 66%. So good game for me but bad for the enemy team. Thanks for watching.

I do to hold them off even if I'm not torping, the reason I do it is because on the surface the white semi circle is no wear near me...lol. fixing that and allowing air drops from ships to match the range of a subs torps and ping would really help. To be honest I've had almost no CV's yet go after me??? Very weird. Thanks for watching.

Cachalot is utter crap, it's a wonder you could stay in place for that long , constantly pinging and launching without bein attacked with depth charges. Even so, your homing torpedoes somehow managed to miss a slow battleship.

How is it that you can sit still at periscope depth 4km away and just ping people all day long, but when I play sub, I ping a guy, and suddenly an entire fleet of Depth Charges land EXACTLY on top of me even if I take defensive maneuvers? Why do my torpedoes look like they're dead-on and I have a guy pinged, then they go "Torpedoes lost their target" even though my ping didn't get cleared by DCP? How is it that every time I ping someone they have DCP off cooldown? Looking at sub gameplay and actually playing subs are two very different things.

Hey Rege in subs I've always had a win rate of 70% to 80% I know it's disgusting lol. However I'm basically OK with other types. I find subs are either hit or miss in games today. Personally I can't disagree with you on your pints. Thanks for watching.

For me all ships start out in the training room, alone one match to get use to everything. second one enemy ships of various types not moving and not armed so I can see how the weapons preform. Then CO-OP. and then Randoms and them Operations. But that is me. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for watching, the Subs are in early access right now so you would have to pay to play them. However I believe the next patch they will be in the Tech Tree to get them, so unlocked.
