As many of you have pointed out, there is a weird Desync with the audio. This replay was fairly jittery when I recorded the audio commentary. Ie it would freeze up for half a second here and there, but when I went to record the match apparently it ran smoothly. When I do replay commentaries I sync audio via counting down with the timer at the beginning of the match. Which is why up until around the 7min mark, the commentary is mostly in line with what’s going on in the match, and then it degrades a bit further as it goes on due to the replay match I’m watching jittering and the record match playing smoothly. It’s also why I didn’t catch the desync. 99% of the times when I just watch the first few minutes post edit, and everything lines up in terms of audio, the video is fine. This is that 1% of the time. I do apologize, it’s just as frustrating for me as it is for you!

Thanks for posting my replay! Atago is certainly great and has its place despite having been released during beta, but it's only situationally better than Mainz imo. I still agree it's worth the money for sure. The real shame is 8 kills would have been my record, if it wasn't for the PEF at the end. Also yeah the double strike was 100% planned I promise the camera freak out isn't me trying to figure out what happened...

Mainz has DPM but Atago has stealth, speed, heals and better torps. It's the superior boat to me

Couldn’t agree more. The Atago is a great boat and the remnant of an ancient time when there was some balance in the game. The only time it doesn’t excel is when it is matched against T10 CVs and super-ships.

A mistake i would like to point out is that hydro can detect subs at all depths from 2/3km range as long as hydro is active you will detect a sub even if its at maximum depth. A lot of people get this wrong.

Atago/Takao is overall very strong and the fact that she remains solid despite all the powercreep is just a testament to her design. There are only 3 things I don't like about her: Range on main guns is a bit questionable - it is relatively short, a bit too short for comfort in many cases. Armour - it can be trolly, but like with many Japanese ships she has a stupid tendency to eat citadels through stern - not sure if WG ever fixed that, but there was a bug in armour model of many japanese ships that causes angled funnel to act as shot trap and bounce shells directly into the citadel's deck. Even if that is no longer the case, Atago, and virtually all the Japanese cruisers tend to eat citadels from rear angles that you'd expect should be safe. Torpedo angles - torps are good on her, but the angles... they are awkward - yeah, you can use the whole set broadside or while turning, but you have to expose your weak sides to do it - Atago is not exactly the ship you'd like to do a torpedo drive-by in - and her launcher angles are designed for that - I personally prefer the rear angles of most other Japanese cruisers - for dumping the torps on retreat. That said - she is fast, quite agile, stealthy and with very heavy broadside full of very accurate guns. With this, despite low rate of fire, she is an excellent destroyer hunter if your aim is semi-decent. Good fire chance for BBs and if you catch an enemy cruiser with exposed broadside, you can do wonders with AP salvo as well. AA is kind of garbage, but... it is garbage on virtually any ship, so...

Range is pretty standard (its more that, German's/Russians ranges are ""New"" standard" Citadel weakness like on IJN cruisers exists practically on all of Cruisers or even Battleships, it can be easier or harder to hit depending on citadel but most famous for that is Yamato thx to pre angled citadel cheek. IJN Cruisers tend to "fell" that they eat more of them while the "area" to hit is the same as other Cruisers due to fact that you don't need to aim as much to hit it, because of lower freeboard the natural aiming point is about at the height of the citadel. probably most safe against that in Atago against 406mm+ is going bow/stern in when at range due to it's thick deck armor.

An excellent ship. Of course in random I have a problem: my ASW officer is a 'no show' and when I have to ignore everything else to deal with a submarine it ends up in a place where everything else kills it. If I can find an ASW officer to let the captain pay attention to the game instead of the submarines it would be a lot more fun. But until then it's kind of like 'do I really want to have this experience again?' Not really..... When sub captains are bad the subs are more or less just free XP...but when handled competently I have to decide whether to more or less ignore the sub and at the least lose most of my HP, or just die, or actually pay some attention to the 'rest of the game' as it used to exist before subs. For now it's mostly just Co-Op, because if a sub or subs ruins a game, 'hey it's just a Co-Op game, big deal'.... Lovely. Right now I'm just considering whether or not the time and expense of this game is worth all the 'fun'. Submarines look to be one of those strategic mistakes that just change everything.... Too bad. I wonder what the aftermarket looks like for accounts these days......

My one main issue with Atago is that she feels only at home at her tier. 9 at the absolute most because she really struggles when bottom tier. No Brainer huh? She has so many wonderful strengths and attributes that allow her to shine but the moment she goes into TX and is unlucky enough to run into something with better concealment than her, she's likely going to be popped right away by attacks beyond her range. Maybe if the rate of fire was slightly better.

The one thing i don't like about the Atago is the completely random citadels it takes, sometimes you are angling the best you could but still take 2 citadels and you are sitting there with surprised pikachu face and continue with tanking 2 mill potential.

I own a ARP Takao which is the same ship as Atago except a tiny bit worse concealment. Agree that its an amazing ship and one of the few old ships which didnt get affected by powercreep much. However, playing T8 premiums in randoms is only barely worth it imo. Because you get uptiered so often and the gap between T8 and 10 is the worst in the game. Grinding through silver T8s is enough pain for me.

I agree. The Tiger 59 is incredibly overpowered for its’ tier. Cmon, who thought of putting MINOTAUR guns on a t8? This ship is clearly insane. And the AA is just incredible! I recommend it to anyone who wants a premium t8 cruiser, as it is incredibly strong.

For me it’s the kutozov maybe even the anchorage smoke cruisers with high damage HE and great fire change really can lock down a side of played well with spotting

i bought this yesterday, i HATE it!! i think its genuinely the woprst ship iv ever had. you cant kite with it because its not accurate has long reload and handles like a sleepy bb! obviouslyt you cant brawl either. i either do nothing because the game runs away from me or i get fuckign obliterated instantly by the entire enemy team. how the fuck do you use it??

Kutuzov is good until you get radared they torp the smoke and it's all over. Atago has the good guns, good torps ,good conceal, trolly armor, heal. The only things she doesn't have is aa.

I like Kutuzov better than Atago. Both good ships, but due to smoke, I think Kutuzov has a higher ceiling of potential. Kutuzov, Belfast 43, Fiji, Atago, all good t8 cruisers, cant really go wrong with any of them, just different types of good.
