World of Warships - Worst and Best of the tier INSANE difference

Today I decided to play ALL THE WORST ships in WoWS I could think of for multiple reasons. Whether I found these ships bad or general community finds them bad or they simply have bad reputation.
You will see 2 games of Kawachi (so you don't think I'm just choosing bad games) and 1 games of South Carolina afterwards.
I rly suggest you stick through and watch these games as I'm sure you won't believe how HUGE the difference rly is.
Spreadsheet says these 2 ships are only 1k dmg apart on average apparently xD

@@henrique36634 There are people who go hunting baby seals, and they club them to death as they are completely helpless, so if you have a better ship, a better captain and a lot more experience of playing the game, it easy to beat the newer players without good captains or equipment, hence its like seal clubbing.

You have to remember that when the game first came out and US and IJN were it, Wargaming said that they left the South Carolina and Kawachi and their next ships in the line as utter trash to prevent everyone from just playing battleships. They used it as a method of "gatekeeping" and to sour the whole battleship experience for players and keep only the dedicated playing it. They then have since released new nations and new BB lines which are much better starting off than the USN and IJN BB lines and those old lines at the bottom tiers never really got buffed.

@@creativityfails1 many of the mid-tier IJN and US BBs have gotten slight sigma buffs over the years. The South Carolina actually got buffed a while ago as well which was why it seemed to perform much better than Flambeast last remembered it. Myogi for example got a very large sigma buff as it was nearly as useless as the kawachi was but T4. The thing that drives me insane about mid-tier USN BBs is that they have fairly large vertical dispersion which at close range can mean a lot of RNG shots derped right into the water or right over the target. Shooting destroyers with them is a pain in the ass not because aiming at them and getting lead is hard at close range, but because you're pretty much putting everything into the Russian Number Generator to not screw you over. This leads us to the New Mexico. The NM is based on the concept of a lot of guns but bad sigma. It's the quintessential medium range shotgun. I loved it as if you got into the sweet spot range, it just devastated everything in sight. I've actually survive some pretty harry 4 on 1s with the NM because I was able to delete each ship in turn with 1-2 salvos while being fairly tanky in return. The big thing to keep in mind though is that a lot of the nations which later on stick to smaller caliber guns on their BBs, have the bigger calibers at this tier and will overmatch your bow.

@@creativityfails1 I don´t know whether you still care given it's been some time since that comment but I've played through the New Mexico just days ago. It has been one of the most enjoyable ships to date. The dispersion seemed to behave itself mostly, so 10k+ volleys were pretty common on broadside BB´s and it's quite tanky in return. Only needed 15 games to get the Colorado. Mind that this was with Premium, premium camo, economy flags and a 10 point captain.

Legit the dumbest thing they have ever said, we DON'T want our players having fun and won't balance the game so that all classes have their uses so we're gonna intentionally make playing a class an awful experience for the first 15 hours of gameplay. The spreadsheets said that the player's were having too much fun i guess

South Carolina - hidden gem indeed. I love the ship as well. It used to be so bad during the Closed Beta, but now, it's really not too bad. Just slow as hell. :) It probably got a lot of heat due to the matchmaking in the Closed Beta when battleships had +3-matchmaking and you ended up with South Carolina in tier 6 (!) matches, fighting Fusos and old-school Clevelands (when it was still tier 6).

How to win in the Kawachi: 1) Face enemies who can't aim or use torps 2) Have said enemies chase you at half speed (otherwise they'd catch up) as you kite them around the map. 3) Be lucky and hope that RNG guides your shells to the same map grid as where you aimed them.

When I played South Carolina it had 9.7 km range I think. New York was at 15 km I think, now it's 18 or 19.

I used to be a very good WOT player but quit over the way they where running it (gold shells etc) and every now and then my clan mates get me to play again and you are so right! Suddenly I was a average player as my knowledge was so out of date (you also need to add in map knowledge to the things you need to play WOT well). I actually think the way they are running that game atm is pretty good (except for gold shells sry "Special" shells) but I do not feel like investing the time to relearn the game (especially as I was an aggressive player which makes matters worse).

I honestly stopped when they pretty much cemented the "play mediums or don't bother" idea. Should I play something with a big gun and heavy armor but is slow moving? Something quick with great view range and speed but no armor and a small gun? Nah, just play this handful of tanks that gets all the aforementioned advantages, but none of their downsides.

Thanks for starting this Flambass. Always felt CCs should get around the whole tech tree more for the benefit of those who haven't grinded to lots of high tier ships and/or just like plating more mid tier stuff. Also helps draw WG's attention to maybe make more tweaks and release more fun premiums at tiers below 9, lol

Low tier BBs... I remember a while ago I was playing Nassau, not a bad ship, and I engaged a Dreadnought from point blank range. He was showing broadside 5km away from me, I turned and fired full salvo... Only to miss the ship entirely with shells flying everywhere except the target (and the aim was locked). Rng is important, but there has to be a limit ffs

Your games in the Kawachi sum up my experience in the Bismarck. I could be within 2km of an enemy GK and my shells would bracket it.

@@RC11361 believe it or not but Bismarck and f grobe are better at range.. I miss ships at 6km more then 15km.. Ofcourse there are magical games where you delete everyone.. That 7% less despersion might help, but it ruins the secondary build.. With camo, stealth module and you not having that 7% its 15% more spread.. Add the russian bullshit commander and its 35% more spread.. But Wargaming ofcourse doesnt look further then their noses

Great vids Flambass. I know most people playing lower tiers will have the same issue, no AA. WG need to do something about the number of CV's allowed in lower tier, battles I had 2 x cv for five battles in a row the other day and spent most of the battles torp dodging which in a tier III battleship inst really much fun. There should only be 1 cv at most allowed per battle at tier V or less

The horrible experiences in low tier BB's have just made me dislike the entire class. I became a cruiser main, because at least there you get to shoot faster, so you get hits just from the sheer volume of fire. Now I have the Smolensk and s**t on BB's :-) Also, South Carolina OP!

Technically you are a sealclubber, I have the same problem as i have grinded a few lines to tear 10 and left everything else alone (Got 4 lines up to T10 and started a couple of new lines from scratch after playing high tear games for a year). Can't help but feel dirty when im grinding a new line.

I started playing ships first and I've since tried several times to play tanks...but my experience in every single tanks game I've ever played is that I am completely useless right up until I get detected and then I'm dead before I can react. Thank you so much for playing the Kawachi. Just bought the Mutsu and really struggling with it. The intention was to train skippers while I grind up from Kawachi. I've had 3 or so games in division and cannot hit at any range. Like you, perfect aim and the shells disperse wildly. I've given up and will free XP it. In regards to the CVs at t4 being all seal clubbers, sorta? It takes an insane 60+ games to go from a t4 to t6 cv, so you get a lot of practice, esp compared to anyone else who only needs 8? games to get out of t4

I Remember South Carolina in spring 2018, few months after I started WoWS, It was an amazing ship, accurate as hell, and the first ship I had +1000xp avrg with. And the first time ever I obliterated in 1salvo a full hp dd (a v25 I guess, or most likely a G101, but German for sure) at long range (13or14km)... it was also with a SC ! Lol +15months later I still remember that frag ! 🤤 😂 I definitely have a warm souvenir of SC. And it’s a very good ship, Too good in fact, compared to the shits the us bb shipline is before NC at t8 next: Incredible range with top accuracy at t3 is definitively op with SC. I didn’t know his range have been buffed before I try her, that’s interesting to see how we all have very different feelings and xps with each ships. About Kawachi, I never played her, I used fxp to get Kongo asap if I remember well... but judging by what I see here, I was right to do not ! Lol That’s fun to see these old low tiers, I wanna play them now seeing this video... Tomorrow, I start Russian low tiers BBs (3&4), just for fun ! 😜 GG 👍

I started in the beta of WoT in 2010 and I think I played around 11k games after launch. The MM was far WORSE back then, where your stock tier 6 heavy could fight tier 9 and stock tier 5 tier 8. I was rather infamous back in those days for a 2.5 year non-stop campaign against their shit MM, easily dismissing all their pathetic excuses. I'd run polls that got >1,000 replies in the forum, and regularly >85% in favour of my criticisms and proposals. I remember an official WG person, 'Overlord', saying "One thing we will never do is introduce +/-2 MM". When WG introduce +/-2 MM (of course they did, lol) lots of people started a poll saying WG ought to give me a tier 8 premium of my choosing, lol (and of course they didn't). WG's excuse for the bottom tier victims was, and I'm not joking, that they wanted every player to experience feeling powerful/good at the game. In other words, they wanted to feed players hapless baby seals for them to club every now and then. Of course they eventually introduced premium ammo for in-game CR, before which you never saw it because it cost real money (the exception being in clan wars because your clan was paid gold for holding territory). As soon as they did that, the required levels of skill went through the floor (which was sad because, as you said, to be skilled in fact required some considerable knowledge and skills). Who needs skill when you've ammo that drills through nearly anything? It became a mindless shitfest of 'gold-spam' as we earlier players called it, premium ammo previously requiring gold to purchase. On the Asia server you'd get people spraying premium ammo in tiers 1 and 2 FFS. Wrecked the game for me and I quit, and that was before all the bullshit OP premium tanks. We had all the discussions about the stupidity of CV design at low tiers where their targets had no AA. WG could easily have maintained the same sorts of power of CVs while allowing ships the ability to shoot some down which would have addressed some of the awful psychological impact of being murdered by things you could do nothing against. EVERYONE immediately spoke of the hated arty from WoT. You'd have thought WG might've learned something, but nope. Same goes for the MM. Wrote a thread in closed beta (I played from Alpha) about MM and how to avoid repeating the mistakes of WoT. The only comments I got were "nailed it", "nothing to add". Of course it made no difference, and the same flaws remain in the core of the MM design. Sorry for wall of text but some of your comments about "first experiences of playing" reminded me of so much crap from WG over the years before I finally got jack of them, lol. Same issues that were present all the way back to Alpha in some cases.

I was very active and well known there from around 2010-2013 until I made the terrible decision to move to Asia server, the promises about which of course turned to dust within a year and WG wouldn't allow a return to NA even when I offered to PAY them for it. They're abysmal when it comes to dealing with customers, let along long-standing paying customers as I was.

After playing World of Tanks for 6 years, and only just starting to enter the WoWs community, I fully agree with all Flambass said about WoT, and to further support the claim, back in the day you used to be able to play a tier 4 light tank and get matched up with tier 8 heavy tanks with Wargaming saying you're there to 'scout'.

Straight up, I was an awful WoT player. I could still have fun with it early on (I’m talking 2013-14), because the learning curve was somewhat reasonable. There weren’t that many vehicles to keep memory of in terms of guns and armor. There were like 8-13 lines total for every nation combined. I tried jumping back in a year ago, and not only has the learning curve turned into a brick wall but the community is so toxic I can’t do cross-team chat. It just sucks that I can’t enjoy it anymore

Your description of World if Tanks new players is spot on. I went to the game about nine years ago now. For the first three years I was TERRIBLE. I had about a 46% win rate. It was a struggle bus, but the only reason I continued to play was because it’s free, and I had nothing else. Now I have about 16K games and a 51% win rate, and I’m still not even close to being any better! I recently made a new account to get the lower tier experience. Play with new players, grind out tanks. I made it to tier 3 and at that point I thought “I am absolutely not doing this” and the other players have the exact same thought! It’s just too difficult to learn and understand effectively. It really off-puts new players. It’s why the NA server only has 10,000 active players at any time.

Funny I enjoyed Kawachi and hated Myogi, but that was along time ago. Speaking ofc bad ships I used to hate the Mahan when I first grinded through it, slower than farragut, worst concealment and slow torps, but I regrinded the us dd line and found the mahan was really good. I think wg buffed it's torps at some point but I can't remember what. The thing is that it took me 10 battles to get through it and only had 1 loss it was stupid. I'm really glad that you noticed the problem with Tier 3 and Tier 4 Battleships. When I first started playing the game, I grew very frustrated with the early BBs. It wasn't fun to play and it seemed more like Russian Roulette than anything else.

Hate to say this, Flambass, but Kawachi got a buff since I got it around patch 6.3: around the time of the CV rework, WoWS gave it... MACHINE GUNS. Before then, it had NO AA of any description. So they are at least looking at their spreadsheets occassionally in regard to the lower tiers... Thanks for taking the time to prove to me (at least) that for once it isn't the driver whose at fault when playing that ship. However, it does make it infuriating to be told continually "Git Gud", or being called a "noob" when playing RNG-dependent ships on a regular basis. I've been playing this game exclusively in Co-op, 1 hour a day for 2 years, and still don't have EITHER a 19-point captain OR a Tier 10 ship... because the grind is so depressing in ships like Kawachi. Wargaming puts all the effort into the top tiers and ignores the foundation... then ignores complaints about poor gameplay in the upper tiers from all the new players rushing past the useless and irrelevant low-tier ships that have nothing to do with ships in Tier 9 or 10 other than being in the same nation. This game is supposed to be fun. It isn't "fun" when shells don't hit no matter how carefully you aim because RNJesus says your shells will fall short on every salvo, then overshoot into the Ocean Map when you raise the reticle a hairsbreadth, OR decides that every shell should straddle both sides of the target just for giggles. It isn't fun when you're in a ship that crawls and the game is over in five minutes... and all you've done is four salvos while T4 cruisers and DDs torp everything off the map. Wargaming deems this to be the player's fault, not their ship design. Their spreadsheet says we're out there "having fun" in every game, after all. Yeah. I have fun two games later in my Atlanta, or Jean Bart. Premium ships which are "SUPPOSED" to be not tampered with after sale by Wargaming.

That 19 point Captain makes HUGE difference though Flambass. Try a rookie Captain like we all had back in the day and you will find it still very similar to what you remember. Also without all those flags and module add ons.

That second game with the Kawachi... wow. Fired at least 4 turrets from 3km and completely whiffed. Then bailed on the AP against the Wyoming and the HE, WHEN IT HIT, had bounces, ricochets and non-pens. Tier 3 BB’s are meant to be free-XP’d through.

S. NC is the only ship I got a Solo warrior in. That ship was a real joy to play back then. People underestimate you in that tier and you can blap them quite hard for that.

I recall shooting 3 full Kawachi broadsides at a beached Omaha completely broadside to me from 8k away and getting 1 over pen and zero other hits.

It feels perversely good to see that also great players very quickly can end up in the mire of despair at this level. It's actually a bit odd that it is so much easier to be rewarded for playing correctly on tier VI and up than it is on Tier IV and down. By the way, I am 1 for 10 on the South Carolina and I don't dare trying to improve those stats...

As you could nicely see in the video: Some torps can be dodged but you need to start your maneuver way before you are being dropped. Some of them, however, will hit regardless and you just gotta take it like a man. Don't freak out about it.

I didn't have much trouble with the kawachi, I just charged in and unloaded at point blank and messed people up. at that tier most people are a shooting HE, and it was one of the only ships that made me want to have enemies on both sides of me. and don't expect citadels, just go for juicy pens in the upper belt. Unless they complete jacked the ship up since I played it last.

I loved playing my Arkansas beta. Literally 0 aa but the guns were slightly better and concelment was very good vs tech tree. You could pop up on anyone right around 10km and turning around to escape meant broadsiding in the slow ships

Range was changed with the stealth fire mechanics I think. The south cal for a long time was my best performing low tier ship until the pan Asian dds came and now and RU BBs.

Probably the reason why the tech trees start with Cruisers... so you can gain enough free XP to at least skip ahead to Tier IV or V in other branches.

I went back to grind the Soviet BBs, and when I was at the Gangut, the thing I dreaded the most was a South Carolina coming around an island with his guns pointed at me. I never once won that duel.

I just started the American line of BB's for the 1st time. Have German bb's up to Bismark. I agree with Flambass, this ship was for me almost like playing a mini Bismark. Like it very much. Should have done it a while ago...

Yeah so as a PROIR World of Tanks player, with 18k games on PC and 12k games on console, there is sooooooooooooooo much that goes into that game. (Btw this is for people who have never played Wot or are at super low tiers) Ie Positioning, your armor and the enemies armor values, the kinds of shells in game, which ones have better pen against angled armor or flatter thicker armor, gun dispersion values both stationary, while the turret is turning, and while on the move, camouflage values stationary, moving and when shooting from concealment, ground resistance on soft medium and hard terrain, the list goes on and on and on

Kawachi sigma is listed at 1.8. It's just that Japanese dispersion is relatively bad at close ranges, particularly vertical dispersion. Ships are also smaller than higher tiers, making dispersion ellipses proportionally larger. Also, Kawachi has the lowest penetration out of all battleships of its tier. HE is really potent, though. Increasing its guns' reloads to 25 seconds and decreasing dispersion to their Vickers counterparts (found on Dreadnought, Bellerophon, and Ishizuchi) should make this better. They were supposed to be "comparable" "WG does not care about bottom tiers": removes citadels off of Tier I ships. Meanwhile, South Carolina's detectability is larger than Kawachi's firing range.

The S.C is an absolute joy to play. I have a 72% win rate with it on 53 matches. Tier four BB's are somewhat of a problem due to being slower, out gunned, and having less health, but it can win against all of them with some skill.

I've never heard Flambass get so excited than this South Carolina game 😂😂 I only joined WOWS a couple of years ago, but I'm pretty sure South Carolina was not *that* good and Kawachi was not *that* bad. I do think WG should look at this, as you point out, these ships are introductions to that line and often the game, so to be truly awful actually harms the game.

So i have been playing for a wile and recently started playing lower tears to unlock new lines for myself and to help a couple of new clan members understand the game. Now im no super unicom and is average at best. I was truly amazed at how powerfull and op some of these lower tear ships are and there is a couple that were just mind blowing. Here is my list of ships that are just OP as they get. Iron Duke ( i did this line a long time ago and played it in one of the recent sprint series 80% win rate with an average of 68000 damage) Furutaka (Its just a fantastic ship and seems to know no weaknes) Khuma (first game i got a kraken) Poiter (this ship rivals my higher tear ships in average damage first game 105k damage with 2 kills and the second one had a Kraken with 3 dev strikes and a 140k damage, took me not even 10 games to get to the Izmail). This is my low tear experience must say for a guy that is average at best these ships are insane, would like to add that i grinded the modules and did not use my free xp. There seems to be only two types of ships at low tears, ones that suck or those that are OP.

When comparing WoT and WoWS you can put aside knowledge and rng since those things are in every game, the amount is different, but when you compare the average player it's basically a few general tips that can get you through most battles for both games. Like don't shoot the turret, shoot the lower plate or cupolas, avoid shooting the back of the tracks, etc. There is one major difference between those games that makes WoWS more fun: ammo and penetration mechanics. There is no overpenetration in WoT and there's gold ammo. Imagine you're in a Yamato going straight onto a Richelieu. He loads gold rounds and can citadel you from the front as long as he hits below the superstructure. Or you're in a Shimakaze and a Yamato shoots you and kills you with 2 shells because they don't overpen. You have more influence over the battle in WoWs than WoT. In tanks you just load skill in your gun and suddenly you don't have to aim at shit.

I've broken 100 k with S.C though the battle was still a loss. 3 devastating strikes on 3 enemy bb's for just over 90k in a close range brawl (don't shoot HE at a point blank BB), and a solo kill on a Clemson who tried to rush me earlier. No CV's in that match. Trying to get 100k in a match with CV's is damn near impossible because of the abysmal AA. The best I've done with CV's in the match was 65k and 1 kill before being sunk.

Those Kawachi battles reminded me of my own IJN BB grind. I neglected this line for some years and started to grind in 2018 with having played several thousands of battles. So I thought: Easy peasy, just a couple of games to get to tier IV. Yeah right. First seven games only losses, number 8 was finally a win and I had enough XP to research Myogi. Basically all my games went as the two shown here by Flambass. It doesn't matter what you do, the ship is just terrible. A Kawachi hitting an enemy ship? Already like Christmas. Doing any damage on top? Whezee, time for the drugs. A few months later I had to grind Russian BBs starting at tier 3. Russian BB cuts like a hot knife through butter. I vote for the Kawachi being the worst battleship currently in the game. By far...

Consider this: if the Kawachi with its many turrets and guns would actually hit like we are used to from higher tears, all the beginners in T2-3 cruisers would die within the first 5 minutes and probably rage quit. Lets not forget that a REAL tier 3 BB player is such a greenhorn that they are often overwhelmed with what is going on in the screen (explosions, sounds etc) and they are mostly a pinata and HP buffer for the team, while others do the damage and capping. Not hitting at what you are aiming is their least concern. Watching friends play WoWs as absolute beginners, they are more focussed on coordinating their hands to control direction of movement and looking another way. Aiming mechanics are thus not so relevant, those kind of players would not hit well even if the sigma was better, unless they have played a similar arcade shooter before.

I'm starting the game and already hate cruisers with my tier V/VI french cc in tier VII battles. No armour, no range, no concealment and 152mm guns who are actually worse than t.IV (155) and don't do damage. Anything wrong in me or is it the game?

OK, so it's not just me seeing your first game. I was torn apart with two CVs playing on tier four with Kaiser (after few months break). Non-stop torpedo squadrons, dropping torpedos in point blank distance. I think it is a good way they changed CV play after patch, but torpedo plains should not be attacking like dive bombers and this needs to be balanced.

The Kawachi is the turd that WG kinda put in there as an FU for Tsushima and then forgot about. It's probably the worst ship in the game tier for tier, as you have the worst AA of any tier 3 BB (only *slightly* better than the Wakatake IJN DD). You get hard countered by kiting cruisers or *OTHER BBS* as they are either faster or have better range and accuracy or both. You have a good-ish turning circle, but it doesn't really matter considering how quickly torps reload at these tiers and so what if a DD closes to 4 km to launch at you. What are you gonna do about it? Shoot the water around them?
