1:07:45 That 360 turn rather than driving straight is actually a legitimate speedrunner strategy to avoid the hog nosing down and flipping over or stopping your momentum when you do that jump. Halo 1 warthogs nose down heavily when they get air time, so doing a 360 keeps them stable and you don't lose forward momentum when you do it. That's legitimately the fastest means of going off that jump.

You kill the marines because there are certain missions that require all friendlies to be present until the checkpoint can be hit. They use it in all the halo games, it's a theme that you will see watching the whole series of games being speedran

Pillar of Autumn: he shoots the marines because they get in your way and mess up your pathing. Halo: In the first area he kills tge Marines to skip dialogue and to make the dropships spawn faster. In the second half of the level all of the mission objectives are tired to saving the marines, but if theyre all dead theres nobody to protect and the game lets you to proceed. TnR: He kills the marines at the beginning to preempt getting reinforcements later. Otherwise he would have to wait 45 seconds after clearing the lift for a pelican to deliver new marines. At the end of the level, he shoots the marines to make them hostile. If the game cant detect friendly units after getting to the bridge, then it skips the dialogue/the rest of the level and just ends it early.
