A radio programme “This is the Red Cross” specially prepared by the radio-tv services of the League of Red Cross Societies [LORCS, now the IFRC] to celebrate World Red Cross, Red Crescent and Red Lion and Sun Day, 8th May 1965, on the theme of Red Cross Youth: Tomorrow's Strength Today. Several people from all around the world are interviewed to share their experiences within the Junior Red Cross and to explain the role it plays in the Red Cross movement and in society in general.
00:00 - Opening theme
00:17 - Introduction made by Henrik Beer, Secretary General of the League of Red Cross Societies. He presents the annual theme of this World Red Cross Day, which is Red Cross Youth: Tomorrow's Strength Today.
01:51 - Charles André Schusselé, Director of the Junior Red Cross Bureau, describes the benefits and values of Junior Red Cross programmes, as well as the important role played by schooling, and the challenges faced and means deployed in countries where schooling is not available.
03:40 - Mr Saidu Mohammed, Secretary General of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, tells how the Junior Red Cross programmes play an important role for the development of Red Cross principles and activities in Africa and how important international fellowship is to receive support in case of need. Ends with a brief extract of children singing.

13:16 - Mr. Dick van Kleef, then Director of the Netherlands Junior Red Cross and Vice-Chairman of the League's Junior Red Cross Advisory Committee, talks about some activities of the Netherlands Junior Red Cross programme. He mentions the Children and Youth Programme of the Red Cross, as well as the Senior Programme for Handicaps. He recounts how young volunteers are engaged to help people in hospitals and homes for people with disabilities, with small-scale actions.
16:11 - Description of the activities of the Junior Red Cross in Asia: in China with the extermination of certain harmful parasites and in India with the prevention of blinding diseases such as trachoma and conjunctivitis.
16:43 - The activities of the Japanese Junior Red Cross are explained by Sachiko Hashimoto, National Director of the Japanese Junior Red Cross. She tells how young volunteers were trained to become interpreters and describes how this service was useful during the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, in 1964.

19:40 - The distribution activities of the upcoming Vietnamese Junior Red Cross after natural disasters, such as floods and typhoons, despite the risks and dangers of war that they braved, explained by Mr Jurg Vittani, League delegate.
21:02 - Mr. José Gomez, then Assistant Director of the League's Junior Red Cross Bureau and Development Programme Section Officer for the Latin American Desk, describes his participation in two seminars held in Peru and in Chili, and explains how the five-year plan for the Junior Red Cross can be beneficial and useful in Latin America.
23:48 - Other examples of Junior Red Cross activities around the world: Soviet Union, Poland, Czechoslovakia, United States of America, Canada, Australia.
