He did tell the truth. He said hypnosis works on about 80% of people.

Why can't these stage hypnotists simply admit the truth: some people aren't responsive to hypnosis! Instead, he has to say stuff like, "You must have been distracted" or "It's not an exact science." Just tell the truth!
