Mark and doctor thank you. Very informative. I have had 2 CAC Scan scores 9 years apart and both zero so very happy at 65years. I recommend everyone gets the calcium score and buys a blood pressure monitor. SO Please Get a heart CAC Scan score - if you have a calcium score then that tells you calcium is everywhere else in your vascular system - it tells you if you have atherosclerosis throughout your body. You are looking for zero. The good doctor said if you had a calcium score of 25 you should do something. I know someone still alive and well who made no changes to his life and had a calcium score of 480 yes 480 in 2015. He eats lots of fat, protein , sugar and dairy but BUT does a lot of resistance training in his work ( not a gym etc) he’s a mechanic !! So 9 years later aged now aged 75 still with us and enjoying the same life lifestyle and food so I remain not confident that we really understand health as well as we think.

A thoroughly enjoyable and most interesting discussion. Australia is indeed fortunate to have individuals such as Matthew who has so much knowledge and Mark who can ask the excellent questions so that this incredible knowledge can be shared.

😮holy cow Mark, stop this you are scaring me because you are so good at this! Mark, I just watched this episode and had to say how much it resonated with me. Having been diagnosed with a rare neuro disease, I found your conversation with Professor Matthew Kiernan both inspiring and deeply insightful. What you said about the importance of lifestyle and brain health was not only true but incredibly helpful-it really hit home for me. Your approach to these complex topics was thoughtful and relatable, which makes such a difference to those of us navigating these challenges. I laughed, I learned, and I walked away feeling more empowered. Thank you for shining a light on these critical issues and for presenting them in a way that’s as engaging as it is meaningful. Keep up the great work! Thanks again and now My new full time job is to live life (and support the Roosters)!🎉

Loved this conversation. I thoroughly enjoyed the last section of the podcast. The brain indeed is the inner space and we absolutely take it all for granted.

Wish you had touched on fasting - I would have liked to understand if One meal a day was good - ie a two hour eating window. It are longer darts good a 48 or 72 hour fast once a month. Please Mark can you follow up on fasting for good health. 👏🏻👏🏻

The biggest gains in brain health from exercise come from two things: Aerobic exercise (30+ minute cardio session) and strength training (maximum of 5 reps). Hypertrophy doesn't seem to provide the benefits that aerobic and strength training too, but, muscle mass is still important as we age.

Fantastic session. So great to hear from professionals in Australia. Thank you. I am 68 female Asian living in Aus since young . I have the highest level (3 & 3 ) of amyloid in my brain though my brain MRI is “ no concerns, normal for my age”, my memory test score is 27/30. My HDL 2.5 LDL 4 and trig 0.7 , normal blood sugar and blood pressure. I am slim, active gym 4 times a week, walk a lot, eat healthy. My CAC was 50 10 yrs ago and 60 last year. My angiogram result is normal. I am very worried I do feel my memory is not as sharp as b4 ( sometime slower to come up with words or to remember what I did a few days ago ), but friends have not noticed and keep telling me “it’s just old age”. I have started reading books more and do sudoku to top level. I do not know what else to do. How would you interpret my situation ? Is it worth to be on the amyloid removal drugs, risking having side effects such as brain bleed ? Plus there has been long & comprehensive youtube clips talking about the “brain amyloid deposit causing Alzhermer’s theory is ridged as the proof of the theory contains many photoshop pics”. Much appreciated.

The amyloid hypothesis is trash and is one of the biggest failures in medical science. The FDA-Approved Monoclonal Antibodies he was referring to are Lecanemab & Aducanumab and their efficacy is really pathetic & risks very high (2 in 10 get brain swelling or bleeding, 1 in 100 severe!!!). Anyone that talks about dementia for an hour and does not mention inflammation / immune system, unfortunately is not focused where all the breakthroughs are coming. The good news; mid 2025 enormous breakthroughs will be announced!

Mark, I am not sure if you have heard of an Aussie Dr. Paul Mason? He does a number of health presentations on KZbin including the reason behind Dementia. Paul is very generous with his time and I'm sure would be happy to come on your podcast.
