In the Philippines, the largest predominantly Christian country in Asia, Easter is celebrated in many ways. The commonest of which the dawn reenactment of the meeting of the Risen Lord and Mary which is called in various names in Philippine languages (salubong, sugat, sabet, padafung, etc., etc.). A men's group hold a procession carrying the carro (float?) of the Risen Lord, and a group of women, also have a separate procession carrying the carro of the Virgin Mary. The two groups meet a place where a bamboo arch is set up where a little girl dressed as an angel is lowered in swing, to remove the veil of the Virgin Mary. A choir of young boys and girls sing happy tunes to celebrate Christ's Resurrection. The Tagalogs of Luzon, perform Easter Sunday folk dances called "Bati" (greeting) or "Bate Bandera" (to beat using a flag). Depending on the locality, the bati could be performed by young girls, by a "kapitana" as in Angono, Rizal, or by a "kapitana" with her consorts (esquadron) as in Ibaan, Batangas.

Thank you very much indeed for sharing the love of national and religious traditions. I have a clip of these rites ( sabet, etc. of my barrio in Pangasinan, shot pre-covid time), I hope you like it too, exactly how you described it, but we have star opening to reveal a little angel who then removes Mary's mourning veil, a very important scene back in my childhood: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4G3p319mduSmZY

padafung - which region local language uses this term? I am an Ilocano, we call it domingo sabet. Thinking of a project on preserving this tradition in my barrio. But it has to be within the auspices of the parish I think.
