I see many comments asking for the reason why. This type of plowing is used to mix layered soil. For example: if the local soil has a layer of sand and silt and a layer of clay. As separate layers they are not good for growing crops, but when mixed they could make a good balanced loam. This type of plow is not used for soil compaction, for sub-soil compaction they use a special ripper shank which requires less power, but the ripper does not mix the soil it only breaks it up. These agricultural rippers are a little different from the bulldozer rippers shown in the video. Bulldozer rippers are not designed to efficiently work agricultural soils, they are only to break up hardpans and consolidated aggregates before removal.

Yes I suspect is is used on laterite tropical soils where a hard chemical crust forms in heavy rain followed by blazing heat.

Никогда не понимал для чего на такой глубине пахать ? Весь плодородный слой ушел глубоко в землю. Одно дело как у нас в Беларуси делают. Так это пашут на торяниках . Где слой торфа несколько метров. Кто объяснит?

Там сверху уже убитая химией земля. Её и прикапывают. Насыпят по новой удобрений, будет ещё лет 10 что то расти. Само плодородие почвы уже не важно. Всё что надо минералкой внесут.

depends on the type of crop, for planting vineyards or orchards it is carried out only once, while for annual crops every 5-6 years

Don't know what plants your farming but almost all of them will go well beyond 3 ft. Corn will go down past 6 feet if it needs to. Also keep in mind this type of plowing is not done for things like corn and wheat it is done for things like Orchards and Vineyards that will definitely go well beyond that.

If you look at big landfill and construction sites, they will use plows to compact soil, in clay soils this will form a hardpan that is somewhat impermeable to water. If you get a big rain the top soil then floods, turns to mud, and can no longer support the crops on top of it which fall over and die. Also if the water sits on the pan too long it kills the crops. Deep turning of the soil like this breaks up the pan allowing better drainage and crop growth.

@@wcswood The organic layer which has the most life in it is turned down into the subsoil while the virtually lifeless subsoil is dumped on top, it will take around 3 years of growing cover crops and slashing them to provide organic material to even begin the repair.

@@wcswood Deep ripping would break up the pan and allow water penetration without destroying the soil. At home I compost and grow as many of my vegetables as I can and I use a mix of manure, compost and chemicals in order to keep my soil healthy. It is riddled with earth worms. There is a balance that needs to be kept and sometimes manure and compost alone simply can't do the job.

Microbiology and worms as well both growing and dieing roots as well the organic material from the previous crops make for much better water infiltration and reduces compaction. In well managed no till operations I've seen a tractor drive over wet ground and as soon as the tire leaves the ground it springs back like a sponge.

Makes sense. I just bought a plow and disc but just small 12” single foot and 8 disc. I do plan on adding in natural means of fertilizer like rabbit poop, compost, and worm millings. Now that I have a spot plowed and disc I’ll manage by hand but my garden is maybe 50’x20’ so nothing big.

Why don't you find some one that know what plowing is all about depths why and how50 inch disk 2 to5 each soil type condition says clay color red black etc rock,shovel disk ripper etc Mix sand with clay remove rocks,stumps roots l have plowed over 200000 acres from natural to crop land over 60 years 70000 in one project alone probably a us record but overseas another story

Well if it's anything like over here at the states the only time you see plows like this out are for things like Orchards and Vineyards. This isn't something you do for your corn field or a wheat field.
