i like how you installed the driver in the same footprint as the old ballast. i have a fluorescent fixture that has LED's installed. was to glarey and bright so i reinstalled the old fluorescent tubes over the LEDs as a sort of diffuser.

A MUCH cheaper solution to this would be to buy some of those ceramic lamp holders and mount maybe 12 of them inside that fixture. Wire them all in parallel. Buy 12 cheap 60W equivalent LEDs lamps like from WalMart or a dollar store or your local hardware store that has them on sale for $2 each or less. If each lamp is at least 800 lumens (some are 850+), you will get close to 10,000 lumens and they will already be diffused by design so will light up a large area, not highly directional. If you want to be "slick" you can even mount a pair of fans in that fixture, one sucking "cool" air in and the other exhausting "warm" air out. Seems like a fun project to me. Total cost for parts is estimated to be $3 each for the bases ($36 total) + some wiring (can probably just use the old wiring from the other lamp), and optionally 2 fans (cheap). Somewhere between $40 and $50 total maybe and a fun DIY project. If each lamp takes about 8.5 actual watts, 12 of them would be 100 watts total.
@samiches20087 жыл бұрын
And where exactly do you purchase LEDs made in the USA?!?!?! They are all made in China/Philipines/Malaysia/etc...AND...I have a shop completely lit by 60W equivalent LED bulbs all purchased at Dollar Tree. It was the cheapest lumen per dollar option I could find and they have been working for over a year without issue.

Quite a lot of trickery in this video, one of the FL tubes wasnt even working and LED strip like this doesnt produce nice soft light directly like the FL tubes do. A bare led strip is extremely directional over that distance producing a very hard light so further diffusion is needed to make it useable. also just incase anyone is interested this strip is $55 for 5 meters from the manufacturer found on aliexpress by searching "quad led strip" and runs at about 33.6W/m

Seems like a really good product. Now just make it RGB or better yet addressable RGB. But one knock. I think it is a little disingenuous to have one of the original fluorescent bulbs be not working for your before image. There are so many things better with LED usage that trying to be a little underhanded really makes the rest look questionable. All that said I still believe that this is a proper replacement and I will be buying some if the cost is right. One question how many strips or feet / meters with that gigantic power supply run?

@Deltro615 жыл бұрын
It's unfortunate this company created a video that is actually to their detriment. If you look at the specs of the 3528 LED lights, they are actually quite impressive. They also have an extremely high color rendition index (CRI) and consume something like 13 W a foot, so they do not look like a gimmick to me. As a photographer looking for super high output lights I was intrigued by these lights. Marketing these as replacement for standard eight-foot shop lights is crazy though. There are far cheaper alternatives. The closest thing I could find was on Amazon was about $100 for 16.4 feet. The reviews seem to indicate the manufacturer is a bit optimistic on the rating though. If these lights actually produce the output they say, then the price is justified. You are talking about 2400 LED's here. Again, the video is promoting these as replacements for shop lights, which is nuts. They should be pushing them towards high-end applications like photography.

First of all, replacing FL tubes with led lights is a waist of money because it will not save you a lot of money on power, because FL tubes are far more powerefficient than normal light bulbs bulb 💡already. Secondly, here only 1 FL tube had to be replaced and 189 dollars for replacing 1 FL tube is another waist of money... I'm a huge fan of led lights if it is used properly!
@JasperJanssen8 жыл бұрын
Well, these were two giant-ass fluoro tubes (8 foot is twice the size of normal 36/40W TL in consumer applications) and the fixture was already dead (hence why only one tube lit). Look at the state of that ballast, it was a fire risk at best as well as barely functional. It might well be a little bit cheaper now to replace the fixture with another 144W fluoro light like the one that was there... But maintenance on the led one should be less. Even at minimum wage that adds up in the first world (and electricians don't make mere minimum wage).

2:30 shows a before and after comparison. There's an office down the corridor which mysteriously seems to have become brighter too. LEDs are the way forward, yes but they don't transmit light to other rooms like that. LEDs don't do silly things but we humans do.

LED strips transmit most of their light forward. A fluorescent tube will provide substantially better ceiling illumination than a LED strip.

The before and after pictures with the hallway on the right side are false advertising. The two photos were shot with different camera exposure times or were manipulated in a photo editing program to make the after photo ceiling light appear brighter than the before photo ceiling light does. Just look at the light levels and color balance at the middle and end of the hallways to confirm. SBL, did you really think you would get away with this on the internet?

you dont need to keep that old ratty, probably smelly light box. just put the transformer/driver above the drop ceiling in a listed enclosure/ a big enough electrical box, and use a protected sheethed cable for 24v to the led strip - hidden, and stick em on the track of the drop ceiling, or better yet put them in led track and screw that up, that will dissipate the heat better and diffuse the light. Never done this just thinking out loud. The only reason I would keep an old fixture is if it's diffusing the light. 🤔🤔🤔
