AUSTAL HULL 394 - The 118 Metre Trimaran Ferry 'Bajamar Express'
The high-speed vehicle-passenger ferry Bajamar Express, was launched at Austal’s Henderson, Western Australia shipyard on 4 February 2020.
Austal Chief Executive Officer David Singleton said the launch of the new trimaran highlights Austal Australia’s competitiveness in the global shipbuilding industry and continued leadership in trimaran design technology.
“With today’s launch of Bajamar Express, our internationally competitive Australian team has again demonstrated an inherent capability to design and construct advanced, cutting-edge vessels efficiently and cost effectively,” Mr Singleton said.
“Austal developed the world’s first and largest high-speed passenger trimaran ferry is the latest evolution of that highly successful, proven design.
”This latest Trimaran will provide Fred. Olsen Express with class-leading seakeeping, improved fuel economy and greater passenger comfort that builds upon the unrivalled reputation of the iconic Benchijigua Express.
” Bajamar Express (Hull 394) is a 118 metre aluminium trimaran, capable of transporting more than 1,100 passengers and 276 cars at speeds up to 38 knots. Along with her sister ship, Bañaderos Express (Hull 395) under construction at Austal Philippines, the ship features an optimized trimaran hull form and is fitted with Austal’s industry-leading Motion Control technology that delivers a smoother ride and an enhanced on board experience for both customers and crew.
Bajamar Express features class-leading interior amenities and facilities, including multiple bars, kiosks, a retail shop and children’s play area and will operate on Fred. Olsen Express’ Santa Cruz, Teneriffe and Agaete, Las Palmas routes in the Canary Islands.

The title is simply misleading, since its older sister ship, the "Benchijigua Express", is significantly larger. I have travelled on the "Benchijigua Express", very nice. Very interesting construction and launching techiques shown in the video. The superstructure shows a lot of strength.

@@higherresolution4490 it will never be used in Australia. It is currently being used by the company that commissioned it in Spain. Further no more of these will be built in Australia as the production facility for this company is in the Philippines. The Western Australia facility is only for building prototypes, the build the first ship in a series work out the bugs and then hand over production to the Philippines where it's cheaper to build ships

The title is completely wrong. Neither is it the biggest or the fastest trimaran-ferry. This is the Benchijigua Express. Also operated by Fred. Olsen Express. She’s 2,5 knots faster, 8m longer, takes about 150 more passengers and about 100 more cars. And: is older than this one. But you got 1 thing right: it’s a ferry.
@matsv201
@matsv201 5 ай бұрын
As far as i can find the danish HSC Express 1&2 are the fastest/largest trimaran around. Both carry more cars and are heavier than Benchijigua Express, as well as faster.(quite a bit so). While shorter, so not the longest.
@sbernd78
@sbernd78 5 ай бұрын
@@matsv201 that wasn’t, what I tried to say with my comment. And it does not change the fact, that the videotitle is all wrong. And the ships you mentioned, are smaller and slower the the one I wrote about. The point is: those are catamarans. Not trimarans. They have only two hulls. Not three. 😉

I'm thinking of an idea for the return of ocean liners as "micro liners" - ships carrying maybe 100-200 people per voyage, shuttling them across the ocean. The idea would be to supplement the current Cunard liner services with more transoceanic options. People generally fly across the ocean those days, so there is probably a small market for this - but I bet it's not a market of zero.
@Rickyrab
@Rickyrab 5 ай бұрын
I wonder if fast ferries and expedition ships might be a starting point for future "micro liners".

Internet capacity and workplace compatibility would be a feature of such liners of tomorrow- and telework might make them feasible. If you can work from anywhere, you might be able to afford more time away from the office.
