I feel like this guy is a PERFECT example of the most extreme level of what would could happen if you have a guy with infinite funds buy everything the salesman at Best Buy's Magnolia recommends. I don't believe that anyone who REALLY knows audio from a raw perspective, would ever buy some of what I saw in this video. Unless of course, $ was just absolutely not an object, which seems to be the case here.

Funny... unless you're talking about a total acoustical band, you'll still hear the band out of speakers... those stadium JBLs... if you're lucky. Music is stitched. It's not a single recording people. The reason why they do that, is because the artist can't be perfect every time. Believe it or not, recorded sound is better.

Years ago my older brother and I shared an apartment, ( 1970s), his room was on one side of the livingroom and mine was on the other. I bought a rather expensive stereo system MacIntosh, I would listen to classical orchestra, and some rock on vinyl. A lot of jazz greats too! My brother liked the idea of a fine stereo. He went out and bought a Kenwood setup with a cassette deck. He heard no difference between either system....He was unable to hear any difference between a MM cartridge or a MC one! His speaker cable was the same wire used to connect a lamp to a wall socket. Years later when I was spending 10,000 on a decent system he had a Bose Wave radio which he thought was a giant leap in audio technology. To me the wave radio sounded like two toilet paper tubes with 2 Trojan rubbers as the cones!!! Now I'm sixty and I like a system that I can take with me when I go on vacation. So I have a Shiit Mjolnir, a Shiit Gungnir, a pair of Audeze LCD-3's with left and right balanced cables, a 200.00 dollar USB cable and my Alienware M18X laptop. I bring the B&W PM1's sometimes. I also drink a 80.00 dollar bottle of Scotch instead of a 30.00 bottle because my taste buds are very sensitive. I can pick out all the subtle differences in the whiskeys taste. So in laymans terms some people have a higher sensitivity to subtle differences and others can't tell the difference between two Trojans and a pair of toilet paper tubes. Thats how the world is...what can you do!

@WiserInTime8 жыл бұрын
bighands69 Headphones are ok. They can't recreate the feel of a live music though. Loud speakers can. Headphones can never make you feel bass or the punch in lots of recordings. Headphones also don't do well in creating a sound stage. Sometimes you get this weird "the sound in coming from inside my head" feeling. Speakers can create the illusion of "the band is right in front of me." Nothing beats good speakers in a room.

And then 99.9999% of people simply would not hear any benefit to the system. A $1000 system is enough.

+Mozart FX believe me you don't need it. it is just an american guys way to show off. like cars and RVs and houses.... i have the best the biggest and be carefull it is the most expensive. the secret in such good sound quality is. Big and good quality speakers, good amp, you can get a vintage techniks or pionneer on ebay. and of course the room where you install your set. must have some sound absorbers and no stuff laying around that can vibrate and make extra noise while the music is playing that's all

The music is not doing the speakers justice at all. Yes, blue mind is a beautiful song, but it does not push ANY audio system. The song could sound great with a cheap sub-500$ setup. Put in some well mixed rock or some classical. Give the speakers some actual work to do. I guarantee the speakers will reward you for it.

+dhruvgrg ALways bring your own music. I demo using system of the down, creed, rhcp etc. If they cant handle the dynamics of those types of bands at high volumes, garbage IMO
@olivermatich28188 жыл бұрын
+ThorntonHiFi there are no instruments that can represent the delicacy and dynamism of sound heard in the music of artists like amon tobin, bitcrush, eskmo, etc. I'm big into classical and acoustic music but it is significantly easier to reproduce based on the physical limitation of the sound due to the physical parameters of the instrument making it, and microphone recording it. it might seem that acoustic sources are more real and a better test, but it's precisely the opposite. it's because we fail to see the flaws, and can also introduce psychosomatic flaws to the sound, due to the fact that it is sound we are used to and sound that does not push the envelope of the system.

I meant this as joke but come on! there was infinite blind tests with many so called audiophiles including owner of linn for example some guys from wadia that "should be pros in this and able to recognize smallest difference" and many other forum guys that spend a lot of money on hifi gear and there was always around 50% chance of getting right which leads to conclusion there is no difference in sound, at least not with such short cables... And those cable holders? ahahahahahahah funny shit, tho very good gear, I bet it sound like heaven, but cables are just silly!
@mazinais3110 жыл бұрын
Petar Stankovic yeah that looks funny as hell - audiophiles are basically just people with massive ocd and some smart people are milking them like crazy... all you need to check are the laws of physics to see those cables do not make any difference whatsoever////

Yeah.. Well i consider myself something of a light audiophile since i really enjoy great sound more than its normal and getting to know about everything as much as possible... Is the air used in the suspension completely cleaned of particles down to .5 microns? How about the belt? Is it made of vulcanized rubber from a rubber tree's north facing side? I know it sounds trivial but tests have shown this makes a difference to the sound enhancement for certain subterranean amoebas and very specific deep granite rock formation's natural resonance. Also, what is the price for the complete system, including a matching bean bag chair? @larrybenjamin65288 жыл бұрын
+bighands69 Yes sir, you are absolutely right - a $1000 system is really more than any mere mortal deserves, especially with all the starving children in Ethiopia [no TV until you eat your broccoli]. Personally, I think you’ve understated your point. $1000 will buy two really nice boom boxes. For a LOT less money, this fool in the video could have had a stereo in his bathroom AND his bedroom (with a built-in alarm clock). How cool is that! And if you could please direct all these idiot audiophiles as to what live concerts they should attend, it would be much appreciated. We need more culturally enlightened trolls such as yourself to help in setting our priorities straight since we have no idea how to spend our own money. A lot of the "voodoo" stuff is legit, and there's no reliable way of discerning what's legit and what's not. A bunch of features that yield tiny, basically imperceptible differences in sound quality add up to a large difference in sound quality. So if you've got buckets of cash and want the best sound you can possibly get, you get the best results with a "when in doubt, do it" mentality.

You should go to Germany to see what they are doing over there ! I don't understand why this people spend so much money and are not able to show their results with complex music piece like tchaikovsky's 1821 or a good piece of rock by Led Zep. But always they "Show off" with a simple voice tune .

I wouldn't say world's greatest. There is no world's greatest. I could go into this room and think the sound is no big deal. As could anyone else.

It would sound like the cleanest personal concert you ever heard. It's outrageous the lengths he went to get it, but you wouldn't walk in there and think "no big deal". As you sit here playing a compressed streaming video over your computer speakers or headphones shaking your head, you have to realize how different that room sound actually is.

The critical issue here is that there are limits to sound reproduction, there is a point where items are purchased based on theoretical and probably inaudible gains for the extra 100th of a percent, full of gimmicks and tricks (as mentioned) or to show off to friends aka the snob factor. Investment aside, and budget aside I would not want this system in particular and would far sooner go for a high efficiency full range driver and tube amp combination, which to me sounds way better! This is not about envy, on the contrary, it is about drawing a line between sanity and insanity and understanding that there are limits, and at the high-fidelity limit it is then about direction and tonal characteristics which are a matter of taste. One has to feel sorry for this chap at the end of the day, two good heavy books can flatten a record and a good brush can be used to clean your LPs, there is so much snake oil in that room, it just feels like a great salesman has totally ripped this guy off...

MrRugDoctor78 Actually I shoot 4K for a living so yes it does exist and is available. And you actually get your bang for your buck with visual systems because seeing is believing. Hearing is what you WANT to hear, your brain handles hearing very different than your sense of vision. Your ears are lied to much easier.

My biggest question is are those amps and if so how much power do those speakers need those boxes are like extremely expensive and he had like 20 of em
@mrhoffame11 жыл бұрын
100% correct my friend. I went to one of the North American Shows this past weekend in Chicago. The three best systems that appealed to my ears were a $9K one, a $65k one, and a $40k one. Considering there were ones there that ran well over 200k It was really cool to experience.

Some weird power cable and power box thing to "make sure there is no limiting of the current" yet it uses normal power plugs, and the wiring in his house will be the standard shit in every other house. And he has this fancy speaker cable and sits it on bridges, I'd love to see the wire they use inside the speakers themselves, or even the traces on the circuit board in the amp. A demagnetizer for records? He does realize they are made of plastic and it's not going to do anything... If I removes static then fair enough, will help stop dust from clinging to them. "Apple based digitizer" why does it matter what brand computer he uses to digitize his records? Also is that all that mac pro is used for? What a waste. Someone who falls for the BS people people spin about cables and stuff doesn't do reviews worth reading imo. Also, pretty lame song to test it out on. Just vocal and piano, put on some classical or jazz. I do however approve of a dedicated room.
@Bobg4259 жыл бұрын
There arnt normal power plugs he tells you at the beginning,hes got a 'wall system' fitted that powers the whole room.

It would be curious to find out how many times since this video was posted, how much of the equipment has been sold and replaced. What is reviewed by today's “experts” as “the best” . . . is next month's passé has been. It is sheer lunacy to try to keep up, and for the average man -- absolute bankruptcy. Unfortunately, I think many (not all) treat audio equipment like fashion with designer labels . . . not only do they generally go out of style quickly, but it is amazing how many status seekers derive their personal self-esteem from owning it. I think many, again not all, to be quite intolerably pretentious.
