Fabulously fun and very magical!!! Recommend stating and showing that the top card of the face down blue deck is the QC and the bottom card (face card of the deck) of the face down blue deck is the QS, detail but adds clarity. Our local Sarasota Florida magician group meets every Tuesday evening at IHOP and we share our learned magic and critiques...this one is a really big winner. Thanks for sharing. I know you will not regret sharing this as the legacy of all magicians is when a magician 70- years from now says something like, "I learned this one is from Steveb Taputoro. Add to that the wonderfully brightened audiences. How can it be better then that!
@brianmendenhall838725 күн бұрын
Can I ask why you point out the top and bottom cards are the QS and QC? I was thinking just spread it face down and then ribbon fourish spread it face up, letting them glance that it is all mixed up. You can't let them stare too long as to possibly discover the pattern. Love to know your thoughts!

My comment was for the magicians to ensure their Sy Stebbins deck was stacked correctly, not to show the spectators. I already had a Sy Stebbins deck and simply cut it to use for this trick. This was also a comment for Steve.

An idea for you guys (using a table): - Spectators shuffle the red deck and name a card. - You spread the cards on a table and tell spectators to touch and take their chosen card. - While they search for their card, you locate "your" card and then cut the deck in the desired position. Tip: While spreading the cards you touch every single card in the table, trying to "help" them locating their card, but in fact you are locating your card and preparing yourself for cutting the deck.

Here's what I'd like to share....just a thought on presentation and patter. I'll start by introducing both decks and simply say " so I've got 2 decks here, blue & red. Go ahead and 'choose one.' If they say blue you say "great, we'll use that one as our 'target' deck. If they say red you take the red deck and put attention on the blue deck simply saying the same thing, 'Ok you chose red, great we'll use the blue one as our 'target' deck." This works beautifully as it gives them that freedom to pick one, that they really had a free choice. Really they didn't....we end up using, shuffling, and showing them the red deck, even handing it to them to shuffle themselves....This feels carefree and that you aren't hiding anything. I might table spread the red deck face down and face up showing all the different numbers and faces in a normal deck. Once you've casually shown the deck ask them to visualize and name a card, it could be random and quick or it could be their favorite card. Maybe even have them change their mind saying "at the end of this you might ask yourself 'what if i had chose a different card'? This again is very open and free. Finally emphasize they can deal cards down one at a time, 2 , 3 or small clumps. Pause and show a back or two as they do this, again flashing different numbers each time they deal. Complete fairness. Finally carry on with them placing their card opposite the rest and table spread face down, revealing which number they freely placed their card. So far, so what......until you bring focus on the boxed blue deck. Say " We chose this at the very start as the target deck, it hasn't been touched. Open it and maybe give it a quick table ribbon spread on both sides so they see a reg shuffled deck. To bring it to an end point to their freely named card and the face down number card they landed on. Simply hand them the blue deck and either deal cards face up until you hit the card and number....Or for more drama you can take the face down deck and ribbon spread it, and show them how to count cards from the top to that number, sliding each card away as you count. Same ending, just with more suspense. I just made up my red deck and I really like it. I know it will fool laymen, leaving them nowhere to go. I hope my long winded ideas weren't too much?!?!🤷🏻😂
@DavidDSimon13 күн бұрын
If anything - this detracts from the trick as you've now given them what will obviously be a fake choice. These aren't two identical decks and aren't claimed to be - one of them has numbers written on the back. It will be very obvious when you open the second deck that there was no way you could even have performed the trick with the other deck. Forced choice doesn't really work when later in the trick it becomes clear what you did (and in this case - for no good reason).
@brianmendenhall838713 күн бұрын
@DavidDSimon are you referring to my thoughts on the trick? I'm not sure I fully agree with you but your points are worth considering . Here's why. They have no idea what you are going to do. All they can see is a blue deck and a red deck. You haven't told them what the effect is yet. If I misunderstood you I apologize. I guess its really not necessary to give them the feeling they freely chose which deck to use first, but it doesn't hurt. They might feel like it was more fair you apparently let them decide. They definitely won't feel like "why can't I choose the blue deck first." Just move it aside and say it's the target deck for later. That's all I meant. But I suppose what you stated is also valid. Either way the trick plays out as intended, and I like how fooling it is. Cheers, thanks for your comments 👍🏻

A neat ACAAN version...thank you for sharing...
@JeanMoreau457324 күн бұрын
It is a very interesting trick endeed. But strictly speaking, it is not an ACAAN trick : to be so, a card as well as a number should be a free choice. It is not the case in this trick, as only the name of the card is a free choice. The number seems to be a free choice, but is not, it is forced by the other card 3 ranks up in the Si Stebbins stack used as a key card when compleeting the cut.
@eyewaves...23 күн бұрын
@@JeanMoreau4573 It is an ACAAN trick version. You are describe the Berglas effect - which appears to be a free choice - emphasis on 'appears'. Nearly every card trick is deception, sleigh, logic or force...Obviously mostly it is not obvious, lol...
