It's amazing that a flute can trigger that instinctual "Hold up, something big is on its way, better stay still." response. I guess them being overtone flutes also helps because the timbre stays pretty consistent throughout the notes meaning that they sound like two individual creatures. -to me at least. Anyway, this was awesome!

I would love to hear them in the soundtrack for the next Metroid Prime. They have such a dark and mysterious alien world feel, it would fit right into the worlds that we can find in those games. They're amazing!

It is absolutely incredible to see and hear where these sounds come from and then to connect it to the film itself - you see so much of Brendan Fraser's character between each sound. It embodies so much of the theme of the "sea". Beautifully crafted.

Thanks Max! Yes they are impressive but my prototypes I used for the soundtrack were better I think, stronger sound but less controll. These have better controll but less sound...so still not 100% happ and quite a challenge to play hahah, but will see where to go from here!

Another brilliant flute-maker named Alcvin makes huge bamboo overtone flutes ('tenkan') with no fipple or mouthpiece. I wouldn't have thought it possible.

This is amazing! I just made my first flute ever, an overtone flute made of bamboo. Feeling very inspired by this and I want to experiment with making more. Are there any certain measurement ratios I should know for how to make the sound hole and where to place it depending on the size of the flute?

Suggests a way of making normal overtone flutes if you do not have a lathe or a suitable boring implement for cutting and smoothing the inside bore. The 'bread and butter' making of an instrument using discs makes it accessible to most people.

What made you choose a whole step? I mean all of tonal music relies on it for the dominant tonic resolution, but what other factors came in to play? Fantastic sounds!!! I love messing around with odd instrument design.

These sound absolutely awesome! I made myself an overtone flute recently from a spare Didgeridoo I had. Have you used large plastic pipes and then made them look nicer by making loads of plywood rings that slide over the tube? Just a guess from what I can see 😊

These are AMAZING, but can they play lower than the 3rd harmonic audibly? I was SO eager to hear their fundamental, as I can tell that D1 is the fundamental of the shorter one and C1 is the fundamental of the longer one (16' C), yet you didn't seem to demonstrate anything lower than the 3rd harmonic of either one.
